Frogboy: there is another solution, let the download count do the ratings. Give each skin and wallpaper an exposure time (say one or two weeks), and if after that time the download count is not above a given number, then the skin/wallpaper is sent at the bottom of the list. The result would be the same as filtering with ratings, except it would be filtering with download numbers. Jafo: copyrights take care of your problem. There could not be any Britnet Spears wallpaper, skin or theme
paxx
berzerka, DesktopX doesn't support animated GIFs.
Thank you Hoverboy, I'll give it a shot.
Hehehe! Frogboy, you bust me up. I guess some people don't see changing Windows skins, or the desktop icons, to be that big of a deal. But yet, a lot of people buy Windowblinds and iconPackager. It's called customization, Frogboy, and it's cool.
Yes, if Webblinds supported all Windows Explorer icons, it would be as good as Themebar. Alpha blended throbbers is cool, but if all icons could be alpha blended, now that would be excellent, and added to all of Windows Explorer icons suport, it would then be a product out of this world!!
Oh, BoXXi, hasn't anyone told you? As a general rule, I AM a nonsense myself. So don't try to find any in anything I do or say. No, really, it's no secret to anyone that I am against the rating system as much as I'm against the class system. I am a democratic man, I say, let the masses decide what skin is cool and who is the best. Therefore I will never rate anything unless, as I said, I see a piece of art that is rated in total contradiction with the true judge: the masses.
BoXXi: that's what I've been doing. Welcome to my mission. hehehe! But what I personnaly do is base myself on downloads. If I see a skin that has lots of downloads but has a stupid rating, I boost it with a 10. Otherwise, as a general rule, I never rate.
Themebar isn't known enough... Cause there's really nothing that comes close...
They can't do that, or they'd get in trouble with Stardock. Remember CustomEyes...
Yes, I noticed that too. Make an area transparent, even if you don't need one. Then it it work.
hoverboy, I started with the original, then I totally loved it so I bought the second one when it was released, and so on. I was in the middle of playing TR3 when I changed my OS from Win98 to Win2000. And could never continue my game cause it won't run on my machine. I even aso have Last Revelation sitting on the shelf still in the wrap. I checked on their website and they clearly say that although TR MIGHT work on Win 2000 they do not support it. I took my chance and sent them an email, an
Webblinds is a freeware (adware). It's never intended to be part of OD, unless Frogboy changed his mind, but that's what I remember him saying about it when it came out. I think the big hype going on right with the imminent release of WindowsXP probably has a lot to do with WBXP being offered in beta to the general public. And I don't blame them, Stardock would be fooling not to take advantage of the XP mania.
Hey, you became a Sir in the meantime?
Hmm... I guess, whatever rocks one's boat. I know I would disable just about every WXP feature. Which leaves me two reasons to upgrade from Win2k: transparent icons and possibly being able to play the Tomb Raiders games (the only game I can't get to run on Win2k). Dunno, but for me it's not worth the money. I'm not saying I'm not eventually gonna try it out, I'm just saying I won't pay for it.
I still don't understand what there is to like that's worth 200$ or 300$ or whatever they'll overprice it for. Nice, transparent icons are nice, but not worth that much...
Hotline is kinda like a mix between a BBS and a file swaping network. There is the Hotline server and the hotline client. Of course, the server host the files and the clients upload and download. There is usually a ratio upload/download required by most servers. Hotline is little known in the Windows platform because it is has made its apparition in the PC world only recently when it has existed on the Mac platform forever. In other words, Hotline is used to exchange MP3s, warez and dir
MooShoo: "btw - is there a way for me (just an ordinary citizen) to view my skin ratings?" Unfortunatly not, but I can tell you your ratings: Mobility: 8 (1 person rated it) Cobalt: 5 (1 person rated it) Alkaline: 5 (1 person rated it) Suphindricle: 8 (2 persons rated it) Etched Enclosure: 7 (1 person rated it) Pixel ET: 4 (1 person rated it) Given the little number of people rating, I wouldn't give any importance to the meaning of those numbers. Cheers!
Oh... didn't know that. Cool. (I didn't think Stardock distributed ANY betas to the general public... I learned something today.)
Either they fixed it or there's something weird happening cause the previews are normal size for me...
Er... make that the other way around... "Optimize for: display" instead of "speed"...
Hum, are you talking about the skins on this website? If so, go into your "Edit account"; where it says "Web Viewing Preferences" select "Optimize performance for: speed" instead of "display". The thumbnails will be the same size as before.
Actually, what you said is sadly true... A lot of people use the ratings as a quick way to give feedback. Comments is still the best.
Photoskins is all the guy makes...
Yes, doing them is a whole load of fun, I agree. Annoying may be too strong of a word. Lets just say that they indeed lose their thrill, and after a while I go "all right already, just open the darn program!" Hehehe!
Hum, yeah, it happened to me a few times. Only problem is that it only lasts about an hour, then the animations acctually start to be annoying.
