I'll leave UAC on myself. I've heard plenty of people say the same thing about antivirus apps, but I'd rather be protected than end up with some foo halfway across the world knowing all my banking info.

At least they're nowhere near as bad as Adobe on international matters, even if they have work to do. Hell, I still think their US prices are too high, anyway.

Myself I love buying off the internet and not dealing with CDs at all, but I've come to realize I spend more time downloading than I do playing some months...it can be pretty irritating. Even when they do good work, it's like 'wtf?' Was always funny when I was on Dell jobs and got hard drive or CDrom replacement calls...like five-ten minutes of work, why the hell can't the enduser do it? :p

I can agree with that. I do curse occasionally, though not continuously or insulting people all the time. Those who do that really irritate me.
Apple does do some smart things, but you still pay for it with the expense of their hardware. Plus, we get service packs that massively improve the OS...I've no experience with their products mind you but I've heard they often get to pay for it. Seriously though, buy OEM copies of Windows if you can. Sure, it's locked to one machine but it's somewhere around half to a third of the expense. I can't justify the retail prices at all.

Good news. I just let me subscription lapse a bit ago myself. I think if less of the stuff offered in the package was unnecessary, it'd perk up the general opinion of it. I like Windowblinds but it was never completely stable with my games, which frustrated me. Having to pay a seperate subscription so I could get more themes is pretty annoying too. I hope to get back into it with this, but we shall see. :)
Running so many security apps could be messing with your drive too. Usually recommended to only have one antivirus and one antispyware app installed (which often are the same app) (though that doesn't mean you need to disable Defender, its pretty harmless.)

Games for Windows Live is Microsofts biggest embarrassment. First it was complete crap. Now it's just crap. The client itself is far better now, but the overall service provided needs an overhaul. It's like a good idea gone horribly wrong.
