I don't think it really matters anymore. People who compress either use zip because they can't be bothered to use another format, 7z if they're more technically minded, or gzip/etc if they're linux types. Rar isn't that common these days (unless it still is in the pirate scene, which I wouldn't know.)
I don't really have to skip anything I'm just talking cost vs reward. If I played the game more than three months a year I might feel differently, I suppose. But if they're making more than one or two more it just seems unsustainable. I wouldn't be able to justify paying almost the price of the game for four

I don't mind buying Demigods, but I don't know if 8.95 would be sustainable. If a pack came with at least two, maybe its worth it maybe it isn't. I don't play the game enough to jump on that. At 4.95 or 5.95 I definately would jump on that, and at 6.95 maybe. I respect that you do of course need a return on investment, but at 8.95 you might just lose a lot of casual players, who would be less interested in what you're doing with the game in the future. There's another problem. Console title support costs are negligable. PC costs for legit users are an acceptable cost...but assuming all people contacting support are legit users is unreasonable. Most developers keep their opinions to themselves, which is understandable but unfortunate. One of them actually had the desire to go in depth on analysis rather than just have one off comments to the public - <a href="http://www.romsteady.net/blog/labels/Piracy.htm

I'll stick with WinRAR. 7zip is definately a good alternative, but I prefer the interface on WinRAR. Already bought three copies and that should last me...forever.
DX11 won't rejuvenate anything. DX9 is the only DX that matters, because most Windows computers run XP. Fragmenting DX10 and DX11 off for different Windows versions is another way Ballmer has been idiodically driving PC gaming to destruction. When I think back to games I really liked, most of them did not even use Direct X. From the perspective of game design DX11 does nothing new. If some feature of DX11 (lik

I'm starting to lose faith in the PC platform personally. Some fantastic games come out for it still, but less and less stuff I'm actually interested in. Maybe DX11 will rejuvenate PC gaming to some degree, but honestly I don't believe it anymore.

I suspect the biggest part of that is that not all factory lines have the same quality control, so it depends where your stuff was made. I also suspect some people having problems with dying HDs have poor or overtaxed power supplies, though that obviously isn't true of everyone.

So you disagree with me, which we established months ago. Fascinating. No. I don't want to talk about pricing. Some games are cheaper digitally, some are cheaper retail, some are on sale digitally at different times, some are on sale retail at certain times, some prices are outdated at either. That about sums it up. Neither option is cheaper as a rule. And what services come with a game in a box? The ability to take it home and install it?&n

Not directly, but there have been estimates. I don't remember where I read them though, so I can't give them to you. IIRC digital still only amounts to somewhere between 10 and 20% of gaming purchases. It is a service. You get the game, you never have to hunt for a patch or worry about what condition your CD will be in five years down the road, usually the only DRM involved is logging into the account. They do the work and spend the moneys to make sure all this

I don't think motherboard drivers matter half as much as they did before Vista. You just get onto Windows Update and install whats on there for video and sound and whatever else and you're usually fine. So XP users still have that annoyance, but nobody else cares. And my integrated graphics chip on my laptop plays games quite well. (ATI 3200) It's the Intel ones that are all screwy. PC gaming is a lot cheaper than it used to be, but it's also a l

Unfortunately the digital market isn't really so profitable as you'd think. With Steam for example (as I understand it,) after Valve takes their cut, the developer/publisher aren't making much more than they did off retail. It's one of those things I really haven't been able to figure out, but by and large you won't see pricing diverge from retail until over 50% of games are sold digitally. Pissing off retailers right now would destroy most companies.
I am quite upset about this game. While I lost all respect for Epic ages ago, they continue to demonstrate that they do not care about PC gaming. A company that owes its existence and success to PC gaming has abandoned its original followers to milk the console market. I'm sure they are getting a nice bonus for making this an Xbox LIVE-exclusive title, or hell, maybe they aren't, but they don't want to spend the pennies to port it to the PC. For those unfamili
