Everyone has the legal right to do whatever they want to something they're selling, as long as it isn't dangerous, discriminatory, or illegal some other way. So what rights are you saying this infringes against? The resale argument doesn't hold water, since it's not legal to resell software in a lot of places. For the PC market it's pirates. For the console market it's resale. Once you've paid for something, as long as you knew what you were buying (or had

None of that really makes sense, so I'll stick with single player. And we'll have to see how much bandwidth it actually uses before saying if it actually has a negative effect in that direction. It's very possible it doesn't use much more than basic websurfing, which makes that a non-issue. I recognize of course that I'm in a community which attracts the anti DRM crowd, so I'm fighting 'against the tide' so to speak in this conversation. I've talked about this on two
I'd never invest in a game company, unless games were a healthy sideline like with Stardock. Seems like they're always losing money, no matter what they do.

SB: Essentially, whenever you play Command & Conquer 4, be it in single-player, co-op, skirmish, or online, you earn experience that collects in your persistent player profile. Within the profile, you use your experience pool to level up your classes, earning new units, structures, powers, and upgrades. Since your profile is persistent across the game, you can then take your new toys and put them to use in any of our
Yeah, you're talking about normal game progression. You're not talking about what they've said about C&C4 at all. So all you're saying is you don't believe what they've said, basically. You could just say that and save yourself the trouble.
Windows Defender wasn't great when it launched, but it's a very good option now. Soon it'll be replaced by Microsoft Security Essentials, which is a GREAT antivirus AND antispyware tool. The AV vendors are going to have a fit since they're going to lose tons of money over this, but who cares? As usual, there'll be plenty of mudslinging and people claiming things aren't good enough and they'll be ignored by the general populace who either knows better or doesn't care. <p
Well it is an action RPG, and as such the action should be well done. I didn't have any complaints with the combat system myself. It was simplistic yet engaging, and had enough variety to change things up if you wanted to after upgrading your character.
But even that shouldn't require a constant internet connection. The player could just click a button when they're done playing to send their stats in, why do they have to be connected all the time? And you talk about wanting to play on your laptop, but that will be impossible in many places because you won't have an internet connection. You have a 5 hour airplane flight to somewhere, and want to play C&C4? Oh wait, you can't, because
I'm still waitin on the directors cut patch. I already finished the game so I honestly don't know if I'll play it again, but it was an awesome game.
Yes, lots of games track your progress, but not many have a progressive unlock system tracked by the online system. If I played on the original b.net on two machines, I'd still have to have both games seperate from eachother unless I really liked copying saves every time I changed location. I don't know whether the actual game status (savegames) will be kept online or not, but they did say the unlock info would be. So if I go play on my laptop afte
Nothing is uncrackable, and no DRM scheme is unbeatable. On the contrary, the more stringent the scheme, the more grief goes to legit buyers, who have to jump through hoops just to use their property, while pirates enjoy an easy experience with versions which have DRM components neutered or stripped out.
If this was only about DRM I wouldn't be thinking y'all just need to take a breath and be quiet. Devs usually talk
Hmm I never really tossed my ten cents in here did I? First off, don't diss Red Alert 3 based on the early missions. It's a well designed game (though certainly ridiculous!) and each of the sides plays uniquely. I've played through all but one of the campaigns, been trying to get through the other one with my friend and we don't get together enough. :( I liked Uprising too, though not having the coop mode sucks. As for the graphics and playability of the earl
Bah! I just saw the CnC4 trailer and it made me go buy Kanes Wrath. And I haven't even finished CnC3. Clearly I'm insane. But it's not like I have too much else to do at the moment, so time to finish CnC3! (Ahem, maybe this would've been better posted in the other CnC thread. Hmm, sorry. :) )
I'll buy both. Only company I hate dealing with is Ubisoft, who has no sense whatsoever when it comes to the PC market.
It makes more sense to focus on ensuring a market share of consumers by fight on behalf of the consumer (as you did with your "gamers bill of rights"), winning their trust and respect and thus increasing your profits as a result than it does selling a million different games to a miniscule audience.
It doesn't make sense to pick fights with the publishers you're relying on to sell games from, actually. I'm pretty sure
Well, speaking for me, I'd rather offer something at a high price than not offer it at all, when offering it isn't costing me anything. Yes, it makes some people unhappy, but if I'm not the one who set the prices why in the world would I care? Some Europeans will buy it, some won't, no skin off my back. Go bitch at the publisher en-masse if you want something to change. Whining on message boards is like throwing a rock at a mob of
after the mess that was generals / cnc3/ red alert 3 , who would actually buy cnc4 ? i'll watch the cutsenese on youtube and be happier i didn't waste my time / money.
I loved Generals and Red Alert 3, so I couldn't tell you. CnC3 wasn't my fav though. Good tech, just never was into the remake scene.
I have a laptop and a desktop, and if things are tracked server side I have more reason to play on both, not just one machine. I'll happily give up some control if it does what I hope it does. Every other game I have to play on one machine or the other (unless it's an MMO) because I can't be arsed to copy savegames over every time I want to play something. We'll see if its that too, or just the unlocks hosted, but either way its already
I wonder how much of the game itself will runs on the server? Did Frogboy post something like this might eventually happen where some or most of the game will run on a server? If that's true it may make it a little harder to pirate the game.
They might host the executable and possibly some of the units, but I doubt they run much of anything on the server.
I'm a night auditor at a hotel. That's why I'm always posting at 3AM or so. :p I'll get a real job eventually. Now doesn't seem to be a good time for it.
I need to put that up on the wall at work. Hahah. I don't think it'd go so well, but it'd be funny.
Hey, never said I acted on that logic, did I? Really though, if they're going out of their way to place something on their product that doesn't serve its intended purpose, but inconveniences the average customer, do they even deserve to make games?
I dunno man, I feel pretty average and don't feel particularly inconvenienced. I'm sure they'll take some flak for it, but it's not like every software company isn't taking flak for
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/commandandconquer4/news.html?sid=6213111 GS: We also understand that the game will introduce the kind of persistency that people might expect from a massively multiplayer online game--that players will gain experience from both single-player and multiplayer matches that they can carry over to a single profile.
Yea, because none of you guys are on the internet right now......
I'm on a 3g network myself, and the reliability isn't there since I'm also in the ass end of nowhere. So requiring it on all the time certainly makes things interesting...but not necessarily all that 'good'. Still, I'm willing to see what they're offering before passing judgement.
