Probably not. Steam can't exactly scan your system for every game needing SecuROM. (Well, it could, but that's extremely unlikely.) Considering you can uninstall it yourself though, the point is moot. https://support.securom.com/removaltool/

What's so bad about the stuff packs? It seems pretty simple to me. I don't want any of them, so I don't buy any of them. Hallelujah. EA having half a brain is good to know...I'm not all anti SecuROM or anything but the whole DRM thing is a big mess.

I consider it preventative maintenance. The patched versions almost always work better so it makes the game more fun, so might as well. Kinda like people install Windows security updates not because they expect they'll be attacked, but because they know if they are they'll have a lot more problems than are worth having. But hey, I'm not likely to change your mind. Just seems silly to me. :)

Vista does come with DirectX 10, but it DOES NOT come with optional DX9 components that nearly every game requires.

In my case I went from pirating what the 'rents wouldn't get me when I was a teen to buying everything I wanted, so I can see that. There are cases where the pirates MIGHT buy the game, but it's pretty rare. However, it seems to me that I'm not the only one that went from stealing to buying, so I don't think it's accurate to infer that someone stealing today will definately be next year... Myself I had to turn off some Vista network tweaks, I couldn't load any secure pages on EAs site until I did (nor ra3 online) I'm glad EA is using Steam now, I can't say I hate Securom but even though its not my favorite client I'll take Steam authentication anyday.

Try disabling ECN if you're in Vista? For some reason that seemed to fix it for me. For some wierd reason I couldn't access any secure pages on ea.com either. Truly odd. I still don't fully know the cause, but I reset my netsh tweaks and it went away. As to not buying EA, I understand the sentiment but RA3 is actually more fun than I've had with an RTS in years :) Well worth the $30.

I like Galactrix, and it's hard for me to fathom what anyone would consider so bad about it. I do think the timing seems off on the animations which hampers the gate unlocking, but either way I like the game and it's certainly not the only game I'm playing at the moment, so even with that it's worth the purchase. I don't think I would've wanted more of the same from Puzzle Quest 1.

Microsoft always listens to their complaints. Vista was a necessary step towards a new kind of Windows though, it was guaranteed to have its share of pain. I was very glad to see them step away from their 'everything must work perfectly no matter how old it is and how broken the systems supporting it are' methods...bleh. Even though I agree it was mishandled, it was still necessary.

I don't think that's related. The new bundle is $40 at any retailer, and Stardock should be able to pricematch itself. I don't have any desire to buy the bundle when I already have the original game, personally. I was curious about the expansions but I've already moved on and don't plan to come back unless this does signal a coming price drop.

It's bloody unlikely IMO. User groups tend to be unfocused and anything Stardock 'fixed' could already have been fixed by Microsoft in a future build making it a hell of a lot of wasted effort.

Considering MS doesn't really seem like it has a publishing arm for PC games anymore, I'm not terrible surprised. However, saying they don't care about PC gaming is naive. If it wasn't for PC gaming, people would have a lot fewer reasons to stick with Windows these days.

I played Riddick on the PC :) Mercs 2 for PC is in dire need of a patch, but it's pretty good if you can stand the glitches and lack of 16:10. IMO the default settings are terrible (even after you change the res and visual quality, the draw distance was still set to pathetic on my box.) I hope the patch comes out soon, cause I love the game overall.
