OK, just one more comment on this one from me. I forgot to mention that I have NEVER (and I mean NEVER!) launched GalCiv2 from inside SDC before. I always use the Start Menu shortcut. So why did that continue to work fine when I just let SDC auto-update Beta 3 up to Beta 4 (and then 4A), but after I did a full uninstall/reinstall, it all went to hell? I wanted to add this extra info in case it makes a lightbulb go on for one of the devs who is looking into bugs.

Well I got the thing running again. I uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled. Switched to the California server. Reinstalled. No difference. Still can't run. Then... I was reading a post about Aloriel not being able to get her game to run due to a registration/CD-Key problem. Someone suggested that she try launching GC2 from inside SDC. I figured it was worth a try, since I tried everything else. IT WORKED! That probably would have worked all along! So now th

You have a job? From the amount of testing you do and the number of posts you generate I figured either you were retired or a student. I admire your devotion hah! Nice one. When I'm on the road, I call GalCiv (and now GalCiv 2) my "away game". My laptop is a pathetic VAIO that my company supplied and it can't play any resource intensive game

When uninstalling Galciv2 via Stardock Central, it does not delete the following items: FOLDER: My Documents/My Games/GalCiv2/Dreadlords FOLDER: My Documents/My Games/GalCiv2/temp (temp files still exist in this folder) I when doing the uninstall I said yes when asked if I want to uninstall everything (Skins, Multimedia, Save Games, etc)

Anyone notice that even with terra techs to improve tiles.. you really dont get that many (even with all technologies discovered). I have to cheat to get all the tiles available to me. If you cant get the full amount of tiles, then whats the point of having the tiles available at all? If you only intend on having 20 tiles possible then why have more?

After getting some additional information from Frogboy about how structures, economy and population all work, maybe colonizing small planets isn't as bad as I thought. At least, it isn't INSANE like it was in GalCiv1. However, I still think that the AI has to be WAY more selective before they deploy their Game Start Colony Ship.

I brought this up as an aside in the "Let the Space Shark die" thread already. Since there was some interest, I am starting a dedicated Space Pirates thread. I always enjoyed the periodic "Pirates swarms" that appeared in GC1. I'd love to see that expanded, maybe where Pirates start operating from an unsettled planet somewhere, or get a small starbase somewhere remote. They should get more and more bold, with more ships, over time. They will only stop if either the player or an AI r

Whats so wrong with "space shark" ? Of cause it's not shark flying in space it's a dangerouse space man-eating monster that peope by analogy called "shark" . Hmmm, good point, but I still want a shark-free GalCiv2. I'm not completely against monsters, but I think they can be made more interesting than they were in GalCiv1. They need to be

I saw a post from Technician on another thread saying that he hopes the Space Shark doesn't come back. I totally agree. I always thought that was very cheesy. Please let the Space Shark become something of distant legend (ie: do not include in GC2). If there MUST be space monsters in GC2, maybe some brainstorming with the community on what would be fun monsters to see is a good idea. I always enjoyed the periodic "Pirates swarms" that appeared in GC1. I'd rather see that expanded

Debug Message: Version v 0.75 Beta 4 last updated on: Thu Nov 3 14:07:20 2005 I don't know why it says this for the version. I just downloaded it tonight, and on SDC it says "0.76[b].003" updated: 11/4/2005 By the way, are there multiple servers for SDC to hit? If so, how do I change the target server? Is there a preferred on to dow

On another note are they any other users out there with a 7800 GTX graphics card? I am getting a strange problem where every now and again all the planets and ships spin much much faster than normal, that can only be resolved with a restart of the computer. You're not the only one. I saw at least one other post describing that exact problem.

I realized that I may still have some leftover files from Beta 3 on my machine. I did a complete uninstall, then let SDC reinstall the whole game and multimedia pack. Now when I run it, I get the main menu with no sound and no graphics on the menu buttons. The only way to close it is to CTRL-ALT-DEL and terminate the application. This really sucks. I tried to uninstall and reinstall again, but same result. Is anyone else getting this?

I played a game as the Iconians. Their home STAR is Iconis. Their home PLANET is "New Iconia". When other planets in the system are colonized, they should have names based on my home STAR, like "Iconis II", "Iconis IV", etc. However, they are getting names based on my home PLANET, such as "New Iconia II" and "New Iconia V".
