Now, all that said... Variable point costs for abilities based on map size/conditions do make a lot sense. A good idea! I am glad that you and Fanatic are already brainstorming on the Speed thing. If Stardock implements this idea, then the modifiers on Point Cost would have to be created based on peoples' game successes with different Race Att

In theory it would be nice for beta testers but remember that cheats Aren't that nice to use! so im proposing to add this "Cheats" now and add a few more basic Cheats and if they get used it damages horribly your score! I'm only asking for these for Beta Tester use. I don't care if they remove them before the production version is released. I j

Here's another one, but I'm not sure if this is even possible: - Swap Control with AI Race: Ends the current turn. When the next turn begins, you will be playing the selected AI race (just as if you had started the game as that AI race). The race you *were* playing as will become AI controlled (just as if you have started the game with your former race an an AI race). This would provide excellent insight into the current state of the AI race you just "swapped" with, as you play that race f

I was just reading the Dev Journal post about needing to finish the game (minus the "polishing") before Christmas, and concerns about AI stability. I know that Stardock is really counting on Beta Testers to make forum posts about AI problems that are observed during game play. In order to better observe the AI as a tester (rather than a "player"), we could use some additional tools. My Request: ========== Please add several "cheat codes" to the game that will unlock the fo

Question: What's up with the little maple leaf next to the Stardock logo on the ship images at the bottom. Is there some Canadian connection that I am unaware of? (Also, should your copyright year be updated to 2005? Sorry to be nitpicking.)

Now, I'm a guy, so for me a power tool has only two practical settings: "Off" and "full power." Damn right! I always send the transports either completely full, or with 1 guy (0 is not allowed to launch I believe). I only send them empty when I plan to fill up on "troops" somewhere else.

Yes, I know this is a GalCiv 2 forum! I was playing GalCiv 1 last night and was reminded of how the AI never seemed to build any Sensor Drones. I love those little things, since they were free (no maint), cheap, had great range and great sensor range. I would build a bunch and send them all over the map to watch the AI ship movements. If they die, they die. No big deal. - But PC, th

What would it be like to play a game of GalCiv 2 with no beam weapons in the game? No? How about one with only basic engines? Maybe play with no ship defenses of any kind? My idea: Add some attributes to the tech tree items that can be used to create simple "custom game type" rules. For instance, a Type IV Phaser may have some attributes like this: Major Tech Type: weapon Minor Tech Type: beam Tech Refinement Level: 4 Or a Research Complex may have attr

I was playing a game of GalCiv 1 last night on a gigantic map. I had picked the "Speed +1" racial trait as one of my bonuses when I started the game. It occurred to me later that this trait is WAY more valuable on a gigantic map than it would be on a much smaller map. The point cost, however, is the same. My idea: Make the point cost for racial traits variable, based on map size. Some may have a "variance" of 0%, because map size is not relevant to the power of the trait, whi

I think it could be more fun if minor races had an actual mechanical reason to be minor. 1) Technological blinders. For some reason, one of the technology trees just doesn't work for this race. They can't understand it, even if it's explained to them. They can't buy it. Logisitics, or computing for example. 2) Pacifists. Not a human playing at being a pacifi

Lucky Jack brought up a good counter-point in a thread about enhancing the ground combat. He mentioned that if one small part of the military portion of the game gets a lot of extra attention, then it will put too much emphasis on military victory. GalCiv was always about multiple paths to victory, including Technology, Culture and Alliance Victory. Does anyone have any ideas for improvements to the non-military game aspects? It would be great if we could come up with some ideas that Stardoc

I think it's safe to say we won't come up with a solution that satisfies everyone. That's true. Many of the ideas people have proposed sound good. I can't say that I HATE any of them. We trust your judgment.

Breakthrough! - Excrement Transporters: You never need to go to the toilet again, as your poo is "beamed" directly from your colon to a mass disposal facility. Productivity increased by 5%, and Morale increased by 5%. AND Disaster! - Dissidents attack a "mass disposal facility" with an explosive device. The sh*t really hits the fan!

One very strong point in GalCiv 1 is the AI. It makes good decisions and makes the game challenging. If Stardock were to add a whole new component to the game, such as ground combat, they would have to put a great deal of effort into making the AI smart enough to react intelligently to that new part of the game. They may not be able to justify the cost of enhancing the game core to support these "nice to have" features.

What would people from the 16th century think if they saw a 20th century aircraft carrier with thousands of crew members? They'd crap their pantaloons! It's the future dude. As far as the conscription goes, I saw something on CNN about an unpopular war going on overseas with a massive number of soldiers involved. I can't remember what country they were from... The lack of training is a bit unbelievable. I guess they just slap a uniform on you, put a rifle in your hands and
