If you click on the Ships button on the minimap controls, all ships, everywhere in the galaxy are revealed, even through the Fog of War. This included out of scanning range ships.

I also cannot scroll when I move mouse to the edge. I use fullscreen mode.
*boink* Looks like Stardock is upgrading their web page. Some of the interface looks different today. All my comments are double-spaced when I press ENTER.
This would also be a big help if the GalCiv 2 application configuration gets messed up and the game won't start anymore. By deleting the files in My Documents, you could restore the game to the "factory settings" without having to uninstall the whole game and then reinstall. Making people poke around in their Program Files directory is just bad form.
Full uninstall / download / reinstall required to get the game running again.
I noticed that Save Game files are stored in a My Documents/My Games/ folder. Definitely a step in the right direction! I would like to also see config files (specific to the person playing the game) and ship model designs (specific to one saved game) also stored in My Documents subfolders. This would allow people who use Windows XP to have other user accounts on the computer play the game without affecting their setup.
Many of the program folders are being distributed with CVS folders/data included in them. Some examples are: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\Installed\GalCiv2\Event Music C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\Installed\GalCiv2\Fonts C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\Installed\GalCiv2\Data\HeightMaps (there are others) The distribution list should be updated to exclude files related to developer source control.
I tried to load a game from the main menu and i got the message, "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. Runtime Error. Program File/Stardock/TotalGaming.net/GalCiv2/galci2.exe" Happening to me as well. It was occurring in version .28, then I upgraded to version .31 but the problem still persists. Any ideas on a reso
WTF? There are still .shipcfg files from Beta 2 lingering around in this folder: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\Installed\GalCiv2\Data\ShipCfg I recognized the names while looking for the files with _UD_ in them. I can't believe those are still there even after I did an uninstall/reinstall. I guess the uninstaller doesn't clean out those folders. That cleanup issue should be addressed by the dev team. During the Beta phase, a
I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but I'll say it anyway. I like Valve's Steam tool for the same reasons that I like Stardock Central. My HalfLife 1 CDs are long gone, but sometimes I want to play a couple rounds of Day of Defeat. Were it not for Steam, I'd have to go buy the game again. I think Stardock and Valve are both thinking ahead to the future with good software delivery and "license" (CD-key) management systems for their customers. <
You should have awards for fastest game win on different map sizes. I'd like to see how few turns it takes expert players to win a game.
Well I did two things: 1) Upgraded a couple of my OWN designs 2) Obsoleted a number of "build-in" ship templates so they would not show up in the list anymore Maybe one of those did it.
I reported this bug back in Beta 2, so it was probably never addressed.
Between turns, when battles happen between 2 alien ships, the map does not center on the battles when they happen. I can hear the weapons fire and explosions, and sometimes I see a battle that happens to occur where I had the map positioned. I WANT to see all the battles (because they look cool now!). Can you add an option in the settings to "Center on Ship Combats"? -Proud Canadian
After doing the uninstall/download/reinstall last night I was able to play for hours with no crashes at all. I wonder what got corrupted in my installation?
This would also allow people in the GalCiv 2 community to exchange ship designs with each other!
That's an interesting idea. I would clarify this one even further: * Want ability to save a ship design to an external file (separate from the Saved Game) for import to another game * If you are playing a new game with the same ship-style set, you can load your saved ship design directly into the ship design screen * If you do not have all the of the techs on the original saved ship, then the stuff you DO have will be loaded. This will at least load
*bump* Nobody had any comments on this, but I still think it's a good idea. It seems like the technologies need a lot of cleanup that the developers don't have time to tackle right now.
Same here. I don't understand why the game thinks you have enough sensor range to see the ships, but not enough range to see the space that they occupy (which would uncover the Fog of War).
One more on this topic... The first Sensors module you get for your ships is called "Sensors mk III", although there is no mark 1 or 2. QUESTION: Are sensors supposed to also act as a Star Scanner? That is, does a ship with sensors act as a Survey Ship? I don't think this was the case in Beta 2, but that may have changed.
I think this bug still exists in Beta 3.
There is no "Sensors 1" tech. The first "Sensors" tech we see is Sensors II. ALSO... The naming of tech advances is not consistent. Some are labelled with Roman numerals (Sensors II) and others with regular numbers (Sensors 3). This requires some cleanup. -Proud Canadian
In many cases, a new technology advance does not list what new ship modules it unlocks. This makes it hard to plan out research goals. EXAMPLE: Improved Star Scanning unlocks the Star Scanner mk II, but this is not listed anywhere. You have to go to the ship design screen and see what "new stuff" is in there. - Proud Canadian
I think the headline says it all. There is a place for a progress bar, but none is drawn.
On my laptop I have to turn the Music Volume setting up to 75 before I can hear the music at all. You may want to adjust the volume scale for this one.
