Good feedback Popup. Here's my thoughts: Think about starbases. The only offensive weaponry they mount only supports starships, can't be used to attack by itself True in GC1. Not necessarily true for GC2, since we haven't seen what Stardock has in mind for starbases yet. They may have offensive weapons in GC2

Thanks Jack. I took a look and I get it now. Now that I know what the concept of a Dyson Sphere is, I don't think adding that to GalCiv 2 would make the game better.

If stardock really wanted to add voices Does anyone remember the game Descent: Freespace? It was a space-based flight combat game. I only bring it up because I liked the way they handled alien voices. If you received a radio transmission from an allied alien pilot, it would be just a bunch of strange grunts and stuff,

Wh I have been reading up on the idea of creating a star but I havent seen any post about creating a Dyson Sphere (no search feature that I can see). What the heck is a Dyson Sphere? qua

Did you install Stardock Central yet? I don't have TotalGaming, I purchased the GalCiv games individually. SDC may treat a TotalGaming subscription differently. I think they have "tokens" or something, and you choose the games you want to download through SDC by spending your tokens to buy the ones you want. You should try emailing one of the Stardock folks. They are pretty good about getting back to customers quickly. Cari Elf is one of the game developers.

A simple solution would be having the minimal attack value for military ships with any armor. Simply you should not be able to design a ship with armor and without weapons. Also you should not be able to design ship with weapons and without minimal armor, similar like it was in SMAC. If the ship is non-military, then it does not have armor and

Stardock has an application called "Stardock Central" (when people say SDC on these forums that's what they're talking about). You install SDC (download from the Stardock website), enter the serial key from your pre-order confirmation email, and SDC will get the most up-to-date copy of the Beta and install it to your machine. Every time you run SDC it will check for updates/patches for all your installed Stardock software and download/install them if any are availabl

In fact, if I was capatain of an unarmed ship and knew I was gonna die, I'd ram, or lay to for boarding and blow my engines up, or do something - anything - to try and take the bastards with me. What's funny about this is, its been done before in Master of Orion 2. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/smiles/Smil

I think the Beta is closed right now. The last I read, Stardock was closing it to the general public until Beta version 3 is ready, then it was going to be reopened for people who pre-order the game. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will reply to this post and correct me. Just so you know, you aren't really missing much "fun" right now. The current version (Beta 2) is very

When playing Altarian Prophecy, I found that there was a lot of busy work involved in figuring out what techs I have that AI civs need, and what techs the AIs have that I need. It would be great if there was a display provided somewhere (maybe a popup on the diplomacy screen?) with the following information: - For each of my techs, what AI civs do not have that tech yet? - What techs have been discovered by AI civs that I need? This would be rea

When attacked, a ships attack value doesn't enter into the equation, even when counterattacking. That's actually not true, if the Beta is using the same logic as was used in GalCiv 1. According to the documentation for GalCiv 1 (I actually read that stuff when I was stuck in an airport once with WAY too much time on m

Tim and Aloriel, I agree with your comments on ships with Defense but no Offense. That would be cool if a battle could end with survivors, and the concept is more "believable". What do you guys think about the reduced maintenance Non-Combat ship type? Does that have any merit, or it is not worth considering?

Another reason why we DON'T need Canada!!! "Lets build ships without guns DUH!!! Freighters don't need guns. Neither do Colony Ships. If you want a "real world" example, consider a container ship. Those things are massive, but only have a small crew and generally have no guns. Adding guns means extra crew and expense.

I was thinking about ships that have no points in any of the 3 offensive type categories. Here's what was bouncing around inside my head: NO-OFFENSE SHIP = FREE KILL ========================== Just based on the descriptions of defenses in GalCiv 2 Beta, it seems clear that they are non-offensive in nature. That is to say, the defenses do not "shoot back". For instance, if a ship has all kinds of Shields, Armor and ECM, but no weapons, it has no way t

I was playing Altarian Prophecy today on a huge map on computer with a max resolution of 1024x768. As you can imagine, the mini-map is quite small. Ships on the mini-map are only tiny dots, and it is hard to distinguish which color is which. The only ones that are really clear are the RED Drengin ships, and all the others look white. I know you *can* zoom in, but that defeats the purpose of having one view of the entire galaxy for strategy purposes. I was in a war on

Hey Jack, The laptop that I play on has a max resolution of 768x1024, so I play fullscreen to get the most out of it. Don't blame me, it's what my company gave me to use when I'm travelling! Since I'm so res-impared, I'm just careful not to minimize while I'm playing. If I had a better machine I would run in windowed mode as you suggested. For now, I just keep a

It's not the fixing that bothers me. Its the spotting and analyzing. I agree. It would be a lot of work to look through each colony and have to eyeball all the tiles to see what's going wrong. At least a single "overall morale" number is easy for the player to process, even if it is not as interesting as seeing indivi

You can't assimilate aliens. The differences are just too vast. That's not true. I have two living in my basement right now. They are very nice, clean up after themselves, and even create small crafts that I sell at a flea market to cover their room and board. That's not to say that there haven't been SOME problems. L

Well, now I am noticing some differences in key translation between beta 1 and beta 2. The - and _ key (just right of the 0 key) shows as 1/2 (but as one character) with and without the shift key depressed. Also the = and + key shows as + with or without the shift key depressed. I have the same problem as Lucky Jack.

In one of my games, there is a really long pause for EACH SQUARE that EACH SHIP moves on the map. It doesn't matter if I manually make each move 1 square at a time, or if I set an auto-pilot destination and the computer does it. We are talking about a pause of about 3 SECONDS for each square moved by each ship. I can't tell if the AI ships are affected, or just my own ships. I should note that this was not happening at the very start of the game (but I can't

In GalCiv 1, when giving orders to ships, you can "skip" a ship by pressing TAB (or click Find) and go to the next ship that needs orders. GalCiv 1 seemed to have all the ships in a list, and would process the ships as so: Start of list to End of list, then End of list to Start of list, then Stand of list to End of list, etc... If you skip of ship, the list of ships will still be processed in order. This was GOOD. In the current GalCiv 2
