when i had my ocz ssd, i tried in vain to get their tech support people to answer my questions regarding read and write speeds decreasing. after a week of back and forth email messages from china (they no longer had a direct tech support phone number), i gave up on ocz and called corsair to ask which model of theirs they recommended for my use. i described my dissatisfaction with ocz tech support to the tech guy from corsair and he helped me getting it to function properly. a secure erase and

yes, start8 makes it 'better', i admit. but, and this is a personal viewpoint, once you get adjusted to the new interface, start8 isn't needed. anyway, other than a kernel advancement, i don't' know what is new with win blue. to be honest, i'm awaiting the win blue upgrade for win phone 8 much more than i am for the desktop

xp was junk, too. i remember hundreds of posts on forums saying that when xp was released. there were people on this forum trashing windows 7 when it was released, too. many said that the win7 taskbar was worthless unless you enabled 'icon and text'. i have seen very, very few desktop screenies using that configuration, tho. win8 works fine once you get used to the new interface. but, if ya don't like it, that's fine. don't use it. nobody can make anyone else use any os th

typical kona. for somebody who says he's trying to change (he's been saying that for 10 years), he hasn't changed one iota. he starts a thread crying about his rig and begs people to give him a new one and now he's constantly complaining about it. at one point it was the vid card. another was the case given to him didn't have any drive bay faceplates and now the cpu cooler isn't good enough. most people are grateful when they're given something and don't compla

remove the mobo, paul? if i remember correctly, you need to remove the 4 screws holding the shroud on at the top and 2 lower screws. after that, the fan and shroud should come straight out. i know i replaced the fan in my V8 without removing the assembly from the motherboard.

starkers, i have one of those corsair cooling systems for my ram, too. i got it when i bought my dominator ram way back when. i never used that cooler, tho. i still have that ram and fan in a box somewhere, i'm sure. it was an 8 gb kit, i think. blue heatsinks for the ram were ordered from corsair to replace the black heatsinks that came on the sticks. i have been using corsair vengeance ram for around 18 months or so. and you're right, i do not care for thermaltake stuff. they work,

noctua fans are butt ugly but are some of the very best performing fans you can buy. if they were black, i'd be using them but i now have 5 corsair fans (4 x 140mm, 1 x 120mm) in my case, that coolermaster v8 still looks like a beast though, doesn't it? i still have mine in a box around here somewhere.

frosty, you've been a great friend to me for many years. i can honestly say i have missed in the past few months and will miss you and your oddball sense of humor in the future. as for you and your wife, i know the despair you experienced when you two split up years ago and the joy you had when you got back together. i sincerely hope this time, it's forever. good luck, my friend, in everything you do. pas

as much as i dislike thermaltake, use the case ace sent you instead of the generic one seen in those pics. price was the main objective in the design of the case you're using, not thermal properties and/or air flow. i guarantee the thermaltake will have better airflow and fans. also, there'se no way a 120 mm fan makes more noise than (2) 80 mm fans. that's almost impossible. i will admit that cpu fan is probably pretty noisy when it's a full speed.
