neil, after reinstalling deskscapes 8 and rebooting, the desktop icons are still visible and the quick-hide feature of fences does not work. sorry. i hate being the bearer of bad news.

because it did. it also made all my desktop icons visible and disabled the quick-hide feature of fences. sorry, guys.
it needs to install directx from 2010 in order to run on windows 8?
that's okay. i installed it and i'm enjoying it as my daily driver. there are no complaints coming from my place.
thanks, Paul. i hadn't noticed the text wasn't a link. i guess i should've double and triple checked the post.
regarding tablets, i've had my surface but for a few days and i use it more than my high-end desktop. i'm posting from the desktop due to the surface being on the charger, though. AND i'm OLD. not as old as WOM or jafo but i'm up there.

if and when nokia releases a win8 tablet, i may have to sell my surface and get one. that will definitely be true if the nokia tablet has the build quality of the lumia 920. the mock-ups i've seen look pretty impressive but they ARE mock-ups, not official nokia photo releases.
and i apologize for ranting. i misunderstood your intent and ranted before getting facts.

i hate hominy and grits
i agree with brad regarding the background app operation in win rt. you really never do know if the app is running or has been suspended until you return it to focus
it all boils down to personal preference, i reckon. some (myself, phoon, the monk, starkers, and others) like it. others don't. i admit i didn't at first but i've grown to like it quite a bit. i've gone full blown into the win 8 ecosystem since i now have it on my desktop, my phone, and my tablet (i've let my daughter have the ipod mini for the time being). for me, it works quite well. obviously, for others it doesn't. to each their own. now, let's please stop the
wow. this is sad. all the attacks towards a guy who likes win8 and wants to defend the os from haters. 'tis sad, tres sad. and i thought i read somewhere that brad really liked his surface tablet. i guess i was mistaken. anywho, if ya don't like it, don't use it. if ya do like it, use it till hell freezes over. maybe we should keep our opinions to ourselves. this win8 back and forth has almost reached the depth and foolishness the health care debate in here had. i
i agree with starkers, win 8 is a damn good os if you actually try to use it for any length of time. i swore i'd never use it when i installed the preview build months ago. i gave it all of 10 minutes before deciding it was trash. now that i've installed the pro version and have used it for weeks, i'd recommend it to anyone. i have start8 installed but i have to say since i've purchased a logitech T650 touchpad, i've rarely used the start menu or my $100 logitech mouse. i
yeah, i'm talking about the start screen and i have already uninstalled, rebooted, downloaded latest, and installed.......i still have to do the ctrl-shift-c bit
when Deskscapes, WB, CFX, and OD are all updated for Windows 8, i'll gladly renew my ODNT and WC subscriptions. and no, CFX doesn't work as it should on W8, the ctrl-shift-c work-around doesn't suffice :)
is the vendor 3btech in south bend? i've dealt with them before....many years ago. after that experience, i'll never deal with them again. i actually took a mobo and cpu in to their office/display building to prove they didn't work (they're only an hour or so up the road). even though they admitted the units didn't work, they still refused a refund because i had waited 3 or 4 days after taking delivery of the items before bringing things to their attention. sorry, i had ki
mine too!
send those peripherals to me. i'll review the heck out of 'em.
well, the nokia purity in-ear headphones were delivered this morning and i'm very happy with them. i'm all-in with win8 and wp8 now (other than i haven't decided which win8 tablet to get) and i have 2 sets of headphones that were designed to work with wp8 and sound great. i'm a happy camper. :))
according to Windows Phone Central, AT&T has a deal going on now. if you buy one win8 phone, you get $100 off a second win8 phone. in other words, buy 1 Nokia 920, get another one for free. or buy an HTC 8X, get a 920 for zippo. i wish they had that deal 10 days ago.
yes, the 920 is an excellent phone. besides myself, my ex, daughter, son-in-law, ex sister-in-law, and brother now have the 920. i've yet to hear of any complaints from any of the other folks concerning their phones. my son is considering the 920 also. starkers is happy his 820. i switched from an iphone and i don't regret it a bit. sooner or later, i'm going to make a decision on which win 8 tablet to get. right now, i'm thinking i'll wait until the next gen is released b
or you could hold off for a few months. the nokia 920 won't be an at&t exclusive forever.
