This weekend yields two new ships! These are from Star Gate (SG-1) TV series - the Goa'uld "Ha'Tack" class warship and Earth's first powerful space warship called "Prometheus." They turned out pretty good. They clearly show the color of the player owning them. http://users.rcn.com/aulonacara/ Unpack Zip files into a temp folder and read the readme files first. You'll get a *.SHIP file and ship graphics *.MDL file for each ship. You can modify the ship

Thanks for your comments. As to why I asked the question about SciFi (which you didn't answer)? Because you seem a bit disconnected for standard expectations for given circumstances within a space SciFi context (such as this 4X space game). Perhaps it was just my imagination (no offense - I was just trying to understand where you are coming from and your experience among the classics of 4X). See Master of Orion II for a concise examples of the uses of penalaties and the wond
My bust on the maintenance - I thought I had added it. This weekend yields two new ships! These are from Star Gate - the Goa'uld "Ha'Tack" class warship and Earth's first decent space warship called the "Prometheus." They turned out pretty good. http://users.rcn.com/aulonacara/Galatic%20Civ/
SpacePundit, your thread title made me think of my own sort of "Political Party" I created some time ago (and never messed with submitting). It was my attempt to indirectly create the Pslions race of Master Of Orion II fame. Too bad that GC/AP doesn't truely allow for creating race pros and cons seperate of the political party scheme (which is the only means to act for such). FYI and for general interest (the bad thing is that the set-up screen doesn't have a scroll bar to permit the r
Why the point of the penalties? I'm not too sure, but it may be that SpacePundit wishes there to be some tit-for-tat when trying decide weather or not to build a particular improvement; and perhaps thinks there should be a "down-side" in certain circumstances (I agree). Just a guess. It certainly isn't unsual. Many things in SciFi often have thier various pros and cons. I personally have felt many of the improvements in GC/AP were way too lop-sided to only providing user benefit without any c
Sounds interesting regarding the monsters. BTW, due to my own tastes, I usually adjust mods for reasons of "play balance" with each other. The monster mod was no exception (FYI): //------------------------------------------------------------------------ SHIP SpaceShark1 //------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name "Monster Shark" Model "mon" Description "The Monster Shark is a

Mona could be "thicker," but I'll leave her as she is. I'm thinking of making one more transport for an existing mod where the transport can carry only 100. I thoght the FarScape Scarren Dreadnaught turned out pretty good, but it took 3 attempts! I made it slightly more powerful than a regular dreadnaught (in the *.SHIP data file).
[quote]There is an old saying that started during the Star Wars push back in the mid '80s. There were people who said it couldn't be done, and the response to them was, indeed, they could not do it. [quote]It is really quite simple to turn out games at 60k. Really easy. If you don't believe it, ask the developers. They will tell you. The popular loopholes that we use are closed with each update. There have been many of these. Read the forum, the information is there. Just because you may utterly stink at the game, or you can't derive a straegy to win at the higher difficulty levels gives you no reason to bash Tech or any of the upper level players. Or perhaps simply ask how it's ac
I put this in the Modding section of these forums as well. Today's new SHIP is a Scarren Dreadnaught from FarScape fame (of course), but see the link for many others. Down-load the zip files into a temp folder and unpack one at a time: read the "readme" file and follow the instructions. The new ships will work on both AP and GC (except the Borg Cube - possibly). Each ship MDL includes a XXX.SHIP data file to permit determining the abilties of the new ship model. Use a simple t

If run in AP? Looking at the FireHawk MDL, it has 6 files for each race; 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. All that is missing is race 7 and race 35 (the minor races set by a mask - "HL"). So it seem there would be missing fields in AP game play. But if running in GC? There are five races plus the minor races, so 6 races - and there are six races in GC (including minor races set as one race) - seems it should work, but the correct identifier for minor races is "35"... assuming I read the Dark Rain
I haven't tried the Omega Ship Pack myself, but have seen the contents of the MDLs... so I'm personally not aware of any issues regarding it. However, the Babylon 5 ships it contains are fairly basic - I'm thinking it would be cool to add blinking running lights, etc. [Message Edited]
Germany, eh, so have you heard of Settlers IV? It was developed by Blue Byte, a German Co, since bought by UbiSoft. Anyway, for the most part it has been one of my all time favorites, though it is aging. If you like GC/AP then chance are you'll like Settlers IV. Our fan site is (I'm part of a close knit group that formed over several years; but you are welcome to visit the Party Room of the Forums): http://forum.settlersgang.com/ And the Home Page (where you can find my profi

Well, it had your name there... I thought... guess not. Anyway, I completed it. It's at my ftp. I'll look later more closely at that Apollo ship. I'll put the Apollo MDL up shortly... but the tools you should have already from Dark Rain (?). That's what I'm using (The Suite Tools: Palette Editor, Easy Ship Rotator, Sprite Editor).
I like your proton mine mod.... going to make them a graphic, ok? BTW, looked over the Omega Ships mod package. The Patrol ship (a Babylon 5 Membari cruiser, I think) has a problem in the MDL where the sprite graphics are not yet associated to the respective pallets in the MDL. A simple over site, it seems. But that one is working and the Apollo isn't? The Apollo (Vorlon ship) seems ok in the MDL. [Message Edited]
As far as what I do have, feel free to use them. Is there an PM feature to this site? If so, send me a PM, and I'll send you my email so that you can send me any graphics 64x64 which you may want converted to MDL. I'll join Neo Tech at some point. I also found this site interesting (I'm used to that sort of board as well): http://www.cdgroup.org/forums/tbs/gc/viewforum.php?f=8&sid=a23c9bfb88b9e504714eec0176ea534b
