Ah, SE shines on MP, huh? Ok, that could part of why I'm missing something here, as I mostly play the single player component of most games - mostly due to connection issues (modem). Plus, for online play, I'm more drawn to Tournament Unreal (or similar) due to my limited time available for gaming in general. One day that may change, but I can't justify the cost for DSL or cable (I hate our local cable monopoly here in Virgina anyway). You played some Reach For The Stars? That's showing

Biases? Yep. That's what I'm saying: It's subjective unless there is solid proof as fact expressed as sales data, surveys, etc, to show where the line is drawn for popularity (whatever) over the past decade... well, then.... But SE IV and AP for me? It's the opposite; and so likewise of many of those I've met over the past 20 years in my travels. Most of never heard of SE; certainly have heard of Pax or the Moo series, even Stars (and others)... hence the basis of my opinion. Hey, but I
For the other side I would put in a notifier to all player in that game telling them in a private msg that the "fjjljljfl file has been changed by fjljfl;jflj
Exactly, but given that so many online players take their gaming efforts so seriously, many will expect set "standards" in order to permit fair comparisons; so, perhaps, a rule standard set could be developed for such things, but with a menu option to turn those off for those wishing to use mods (as in Unreal, etc).

I'm sure Moo II players will all eventually hear of other titles ;) :) Heh, given Moo III was such a disappointment for so many of them (as it seems, anyway). "Niche" market? Aren't all these Space 4X games that way? Erm, save, perhaps a few titles (Moo II broke the yoke due to multiplayer on-line ability and full market release)... How does SE IV rate to Stars, Pax Imperia, Imperium Galactic II, Spaceward Ho, Moo III, and similar, in sales? Have and links to stats on that? Or is it rea

I downloaded some sort of "Diplomat's Pack." Is that yours? It needed the Net thing to work. After installing it, I get an error by it to refuse to run... something about a problem in a the Bin folder and file locations (couldn't fine "MSCOREE.DLL")... but it never gave me the option to state file loctions. Any Ideas? http://www.diplomats-empire.com/writer/writer_004.htm That site didn't have a download option to any ealier more stable version.

Won't go for those "worm eggs," lol; yep, a priority check list would be nice. Agreed. If those eggs contained some good things, they might a little harder to skip, however.

Ok, here's a stand-alone mod: A new weopon! Plus graphics! And Sound! The Death Ray! Well, it's sort of a Master Of Orion II Stellar Conventer looking beam.... Maybe I'll do that old Master Of Onion II purple Death Ray as well (lol). http://users.rcn.com/aulonacara/Galatic%20Civ/ Unpack the zip file into a temporary folder and read the readme for install instructions (simple). Now your new ship creations can use the Death Ray (use "DR" in th

http://users.rcn.com/aulonacara/Galatic%20Civ/ This weekend I did the Stargate vessel called Thor's Hammer, an Asgard capital ship. It's a late game ship, the final step after the Excaliber (get it by inventing "Galatic Domination"). Unpack the zip file in a temporary folder and read the readme file for instructions.

Seen similar, but consistantly I've also noticed it perfers to abtain the gasy or glowing orb sort of anomolies before going after the spinning junk anomoloies (as if last priority?). Those improve the ship's abilities. I wish there were a way to make it examine certain anomolies according to type priority. I find myself occassionaly turning off auto in order to violently force the survey ship captain to snag up the junk stuff he tends to skip - then back to auto.

This really, really, saddens me to hear this. Years ago I was in partners as a tropical fish supplier - and our retail pet stores (Value Pet, Inc) got into deep debt with us - hoping against hope that they'd eventually pay up - they were, saddly (in retrospect), our main customer (13 stores) - then they went bankrupt, total liquidation. That was the beginning of the end for Viginia Aquatics Tropical Fish Supply (c1990). Gads, I hope you can manage to survive this sort of thing! Sad thin

I'm thinking in error about certain relationships... I had thought Strategy First was a division of StarDock or vice-verse... so you're with StarDock? How does Total Gaming fit in? Sub of whom? Too bad SF hasn't paid up... that's not good for those hoping to see more come from you guys and gals :) ;) I read StarDock's mission statement, and that certainly is something I can say: "It's about time a company came along with such goals as yours." I hope you all succeed and do well! Hopefully online

Have to disagree. Endured? By what standard and research data? What "facts?" National sales data? Sorry, but in my experience, SE rarely comes up in conversations, whereas MOOI and MOOII still do. But, true, that's not a legit scientific survey analysis - just opinion; but having travelled the Union since the days of the TRS-80, and loved 4X and similar, I think it's fairly informed. Too bad they can't work on more developement (if "no" as you say). One guy? Fine, "Well Done" for one

Fridrik, you got it. In my case, I had already begun "adjusting" things in the various data files on my own and adding political parties and changing stuff in the English STR file related to "Picks.". I eventually decided to try mods later. It doesn't take long to discover that the mods most often require some "work" in order to be combined with the game and combined with each other, be it to change various ID numbers, spelling, shorten description texts that are too long, or

Use note pad to access the Party files (make the association if it is not set). Once inside, simply find the number called "ID" and set the next available number (type it). Don't know the next number? Simply open each party file and read each ID number, write them down. Get rid of duplicates... number them 0 to whatever the last number is for the total quantity of parties available in the game. The GC Writer program makes this easy, but could cause you problems if you aren't us

I shared only tiny bit of what I've learned so far, and there are a lot of other tips and tricks once you're using the graphic arts software to make your animate film strips. Ask when the questions come. Happy to help. I do presuppose a basic klowledge of file handling, cut'n'paste, etc. It seems you have that down. That makes it easier to explain stuff. I'm now looking at getting the whole full blow graphic programs of Corel Draw (I can get a reduced price due to owning Paint Shop Pr

Interesting Site. If it is still being updated: site master, please feel free to mirror all my ship MDL graphics files to the SHIP section. You may get them here: http://users.rcn.com/aulonacara/Galatic%20Civ/ Each of the MDL zips includes a install readme file, the MDL file, plus the *.SHIP file. The initial zip file should first be unpacked into a temporary folder, then read the "readme" file. The MDLs can be used for either GC or AP. Many of the MD

The Suite Tools include the Pear File unpacker/packer -check closely in the folder. There are several executable files. Try each. Some Generalized Details.... proceedure... 1. Click an MDL file. Unpack it into a work folder. 2. Click a *.SPR file now located in the work folder. There could be several files; each will have a corresponding *.PAL_ file (color pallet). The SPR file should open into the Sprite Utility program of the Editing Tools package (make the asso

I found a link at http://www.neotechgaming.com/viewforum.php?f=65 or here (I forget) some time ago which took me to GIMP II, a freeware graphics program. The Pear file sprite editor and unpacker/packer? That I have to wonder about... I'm thinking any program available would be hacker created or a direct release utility from its creators; not something found at a shareware/freeware site; certainly not at a store? The link mentioned by Desert Fox will have Dark

A note to those using the Jupiter II colony ship SHIP file I provided: I noticed the AI player decided to use the Jupiter II exclusively instead of the normal colony, even when there is no need to do so. They refuse to use a the normal colony ship to reach more distant locations when there are no short range locations for the Jupiter II colony to go to and colonize. The fix might be to make them both the same cost. The main benefit to the player to using the Jupiter II is simply the sma

For this weekend, I have made a new graphic for the Star Hawk, which uses a ship graphic already in by the frigate technology discovery. This new model will prevent the need to do that. http://users.rcn.com/aulonacara/Galatic%20Civ/ This graphic is larger and the StarHawk.SHIP is the same as the original except that the file calls for the using of the NewHawk mdl in order to use the new ship graphic in the game. It is about the same size as the normal survey ship with
