Impressive? Use a custom map, random gigantic rare planets (quanity) in groups, then modified where you get a single 16 home world at 10 influence at start and each AI gets two 24 worlds at 50 influence each at start, home worlds all equal distances apart, minors off at start, hardest level, mil victory or tech victory.... Nope, haven't won trying that - but I think it would definately be a rough game, impressive win. [Message Edited]

Another new ship for this weekend is now available: The Jupiter II colony ship (100 max). http://users.rcn.com/aulonacara/Galatic%20Civ/ Enjoy.
I take it any planet at or above 40 will be reject by the online system? Or is it any planet with 40 or more PQ added on to existing rating?
Thanks so much for that link! I stumble around and never manager to find it. I still use a an older version of GC Writer. It'll be nice to have the new one. Gads! 23 meg? Better download after I go to bed, lol.
I asked this sometime earlier as well. I too see the problem from time to time. I've seen it take in upwards of 10 minutes for a ship to shoot and the enemy to blow-up while using a very high-end fast PC! Very annoying!!! I was also seeing slow downs for stacks of ships to move. This was real bad on my old AMD 7 CPU. What I did was buy a very high-end fast PC, custom built (it was time to do so anyway). The slow movement of stacks was greatly reduced, but I still witness it
The Battleship Galactica as a capital ship? Perhaps... I think there are better choices in from Star Wars and other SciFi, but making and using a model of the Battleship Galactica would still be fun to do, even if the shape is pretty plain. I may do that for you and see what I can come up with. It might look better as 3D, non-rotating (too hard to rotate a 3D pic into frames - I don't have the tools to do it). See my Goa'uld Ha'tak class ship (that's a cool capital ship) for what I mean.
To totally rework all the human ships in GC/AP would be a huge undertaking graphicly. The names could use some "work," agreed. The small tiny frigate is definately out-of-sync with normal expectations. It looks like a tiny fighter, lol. The Star Hawk also looks like a step backwards from the normal survey ship as well. See my new set of graphics for fighters. Now those are fighter graphics! With the models that I and others have been making, you can easily fix this. You cou
Background? What do you mean? Make it transparent? If so, you need a Paint Program, such as Paint Shop Pro 9 (or similar) which can work with *.PNG type files to include setting transparent regions. In Paint Shop Pro it is easy to do this. I normally use black as the back-drop (back-ground); I then tell Paint Shop Pro to set "Transparent" the "Back-Ground" color, which is black (I can use any color I want - and can ask that any color to be set as "Transparent"). Once you "Set"
Got it. I still need to install it. Perhaps tonight. Been busy making new ship graphics on the weekends :) http://users.rcn.com/aulonacara/Galatic%20Civ/ Use any of them with your mods if you wish. [Message Edited]
--- New Ships for the weekend --- I did a request for Amaymon. It is a fighter which can be used early in the game. This MDL is a dark colored set and looks very nice and my first fully animated ship graphic (MDL file). The ship's animation will clearly show which player owns the ship. The Graphic: There are actually two animated fighters jockying for position in the same space grid square while they wait for movement destination orders; and, thier weapons and engine have a
Do you have a link?
Thanks for the info! :) Looks like a lot of folks are having a great time! But some questions (stupid ones): 1st - I love the single player mode of most games, especially that of the Space 4X sort - but is there an online multiplayer component to GC/AP (I don't recall at the moment)? If not, then what's this "Empires" thing about? 2nd - Do you have an idea about how many copies of the game have sold verses estimates of those still playing? I would really like to see StarDock
Yep. Least I finally nuked it out, as they say. I have that Star Trek mod, and noticed the regular Star Base has a movement of 2 vice 1. I've yet to figure out how the modder did that!
I have observed that ;) I have also observed that minor AIs will pay nicely for some techs, even late in the game. But one of the best ploys I have stumbled across is to simply attack certain of the late arriving AI minors, sue for peace 1 or 2 turns later, then get a huge per-turn tribute for 20 or 40 turns. One such tribute was 3000 for 30 turns. I was amazed.
I have no problem with doing some ships for you. No one else has asked - short of doing what to me is too large a task - an entire ship project - I can't commit to that. However, just one ship at a time being desired? N.P., if not a lot of requests. The best thing is a picture (bmp, gif or jpg), any size, screen capture, etc, of the ship being requested - as a base for me to begin the conversion to 64x64, then to film strip. My next project is the Star Gate SG-1 Goa'uld Battle
Ok, I got it to work... A positive integer minus a negative which yields zero or a negative integer yields a ship speed of one. * A pick speed of +1 minus ship speed of -1 = 0 or effective ship game speed +1. * A pick speed of +1 minus ship speed of -2 = -1 or effective ship game speed +1. * A pick speed of +2 minus ship speed of -1 = ship speed +1 (no gain, since default equals +1) * A pick speed 0f +3 minus ship speed of -1 = ship speed +2 (gain +1
Assume I modded it. Remember, I made mods. I added a lot of new choices to the picks list. In this case: // propulsion [A3_Option0Text] Extra 1 Parsecs/Month [A3_Option0Bonus] 1 [A3_Option0Cost] 1 [A3_Option1Text] Extra 2 Parsecs/Month [A3_Option1Bonus] 2 [A3_Option1Cost] 2 [A3_Option2Text] Extra 3 Parsecs/Month [A3_Option2Bonus] 3 [A3_Option2Cost] 4 [A3_Option3Text] Extra 4 Parsecs/Month [A3_Option3Bon
Those can be off-set by picks (if the player truely wishes to avoid the penalties) or mine the appropriate economic and morale resource (if handy - depends on luck, granted). Pending a decent map layout, I still do very well with the Technologist Party (in the form I now have it in). I do a lot of tech trading for money - and give a few for "friendships" to bide my time at the beginning.
I have tried a speed pick of 3 but saw no change. After the first speed improvement, there was no change. Part of the problem is I don't know how the speed algorithm; i.e., does mulitplication happen between a postive percent (decimal) to my negative, yielding a negative? Thusly always negative, thusly impossible to improve speed after a given number of speed improvements? You indicate otherwise - assuming I understand you correctly - that such is NOT the case; that a simple single speed pick of
I haven't seen it increase pass 1 yet, but I'm not far into the game. I'll post the results tommarrow. I'm hoping it'll take 11 speed improvements to increase speed to 2... Plus the play can choose speed picks (I assume those "count" as well)..... I may need to reduce it to -5 or so. What do you think?
Ah, I decided to do one more ship for the weekend. This may be my best one yet. This is from Star Trek, Deep Space 9 TV SciFi series - it is the Deep Space 9 space station. It is powerful, and you need to get it via getting break-throughs in trading, because you get the plans for it from a traveler. I set the speed to -10 to keep the space station from moving fast. In the game it moves at a speed of 1. I suspect once speed technology discoveries off-set the -10, then the shi

Here are my tech technology sorts of "Parties." I had to modify the Research, Inc party due to the need to play balance it with my other mods; and to include my own estimation of what is appropriate given my own expectations. These are for general interest only: //------------------------------------------------------------------------ POLITICALPARTY ResearchInc //------------------------------------------------------------------------ ID
[quote]Auratus Said: As to why I asked the question about SciFi (which you didn't answer)? Because you seem a bit disconnected for standard expectations for given circumstances within a space SciFi context (such as this 4X space game). Perhaps it was just my imagination (no offense - I was just trying to understand where you are coming from and your experience among the classics of 4X).
