Most of the wierdness of the "range of influence" of a star base has been corrected on Beta 5, but one case still remains. If a star base's range is entirely within sectors that are turned black (I still don't understand the ratiounal for the changing color of the FOW and unexplored cover, which causes me continual problems) the range circle disappears entirely.

I am getting the feeling that this happens most (but not always) after moving all of the ships on manual, then causing the ship to be "deselected" (i.e., the data is no longer displayed at the bottom of the screen, even though the selection ring still shows around the last ship moved). After that, the enter key (next turn) doesn't respond. I typically have the planet list up. Pressing f2 to refresh the planet list then allows the enter key to function again.

Well sometimes, it is also an influence bonus Yes, I just got a planet where a pyramid was shown as an influence bonus. Same game, two planets with pyramid bonuses, each with different bonus description text. It is really hard to tell if the bonus description or the icon is the bonus that is received from the tile, but I have one bas

The first game I played after the last several build deliveries just haven't felt right. They all seemed to be very unbalanced towards the computer AIs. The other civs advanced much faster, built their influence much faster, had higher economy and manufacturing rates, etc. etc. etc.. Each time, when it became apperant that I was loosing badly I would give up and start a new game, and discovered that the balance was much better.

The lightning bolt is now an approval bonus, the pyramid is now a research bonus, the decahedron is now a manufacturing bonus, and the three fingered hand is also a manufacturing bonus. The grass stalk is still a food bonus (thankfully). Are these changes intentional??? Snap shots sent to Scott.

Try this one on Beta 5. 1). Start GC2. 2). If you get music (I didn't the first time so I did a complete uninstall/install) on the first panel (main menu) click "options". 3). Then click "main menu". When I did this I got the intro music when the main menu first came up (step 1), the music changed when the options menu came up (step 2), then I had both music tracks when the main menu came up again (step 3).

This is on 4E after a total uninstall/install. The startup vaules for race name, leader, home planet name, and political party are not used by the game. There may be others, and I will add them in this thread when I see what they are.

It looks like the morale/tax rate has been modified, but there is still a glitch in it on 4E. At the very start of a game I get the following tax rate/morale values: 45/85 46/85 47/84 48/83 49/82 50/75 51/74 52/72 53/71 54/70 55/68. In fact, it follows a nice curve from 19% tax with 100% morale to 74% tax at 23% mroale except for the sudden drop between 49% and 50%, and another sudden drop at 75% tax to 1% morale. Hope these values help.

I had to do a complete uninstall/install to get beta 4E to work. However, I also discovered that this problem is still there in 4E. GCCONFIG refuses to start because it can't find d3dx9_29.dll. Copying the file from the galciv2 directory to the gcconfig subdirectory allows gcconfig to work again, but this problem is going to be a real stopper for the first time user until the install process is changed to handle it.
