Not sure about the Akilians, but the Caranoids were a reference to one member of the Stardock staff at the time - CariElf. I believe she is no longer with the team unfortunately, so I guess they are extinct as a minor race.
Last I heard CariElf was on maternity leave and would be returning.

I think this is another example of where LEP is overly aggressive.
I agree 100%. This game is too cumbersome without all of the sort capabilities that GC2 had. I used all of the sorts and filters when playing GC2, so I feel it is a good guide/starting point for what sorts and filters need to be added to GC3.
My best guess would be that its related to the AI making calculations during the players turn. If thats not the case and im pretty sure it isnt ( AI Calc happens after the player hits end turn id guess ) i have no idea what might cause this issue.
IIRC (and Brad, Stardock, please correct me if I am wrong) in all of the GC series of games the AI attempted
I too have the same problem. 16GB RAM, SSD, i7-4770K, GTX 980 - no other issues, just this, and it occurs randomly, but usually past turn 100. Zooming in/out repeatedly is the quickest way to reproduce. Occurs with/without autosave Occurs on all galaxy sizes Occurs with/without Steam Community Overlay Edit: I'm encountering the same issue on an Ultrabook with
>> This GPU driver looks very old for GC3, and I would expect GC3 to have difficulties with it. You may wish to check directly on the Intel site for a newer driver. Don't trust your computer to get a newer driver without extra effort on your part!
Notice that the MOO shown here is the first MOO, not MOO2, which was a vast improvement (followed by MOO3 which mostly reverted back to the appearance and mechanics of MOO1).
I think the problem here is not that patriotic is so overpowered (perhaps it is, but ...), but that the LEP is much too progressive on larger maps. It needs to be adjusted for the larger maps, especially the insane map.
I second this.
There have been a few people having problems like this when hooking the game up to a TV (I am guessing through an HDMI or "computer" connection on the TV). Is this your configuration? Another idea is that if you go into your prefs.ini file about 4 lines down you will see two lines for "DisplayResolution" and "Fullscreen". You may be able to get around this problem while Stardock is processing the ticket you submitted on the problem (did you submit one?) by changing the
I have also asked for this and for many more sorts and filters for the many lists in the game. Please add me to this request.
This looks to me like one of those things that often happen during the design phase of any program, missing a requirement simply because it never occurred to the designers that it might be needed. What is needed is an option in the govern -> ships -> going ... -> should go to column that assigns no goto target to the ships selected in the "going to" column. The same is true for govern -> ships -> of type. Without this, the only way to turn off the autopil
This sounds like a bug. Have you opened a ticket?
When you added RAM, did you check your "virtual memory" settings?
I tried something, just out of curiosity, and discovered that the time between turns can be greatly affected by the number of factions you have playing in the game. I picked up the mod Bamford posted that increases the number of major factions available by 6 and started a game with them all on an insane galaxy. It increased the time for end of turn processing by about four times. An end of turn time for 7 opponent factions took about 5-10 seconds on my machine, but with 50 opponenets, it took
Have you tried deleting or renaming your "...\my games\galciv3" folder?
Stardock has said the game uses OS services that are not available in Vista, so they set it up to refuse to run under Vista. It would crash anyway.
I am seeing this too and it is very inconvenient. Asmodean, if you haven't discovered it yet, you can center your minimap by pressing and holding your mouse scroll wheel then moving the map to where you want it. I agree that a hot key for this would be very nice, along with the many hot keys that were in GC2 and are not in GC3.
I think one thing that is being forgotten here is that processor speed isn't the only thing that can slow your game down. Two biggies are RAM installed and the OS's virtual memory settings.
I have not heard of any way to toggle anything on/off on the main map, but there are a few I would like to see in addition to trade routes and shipyard sponsor lines,. I would like to toggle relics, resources, asteroids, anomalies, ships, planets, stars, just about anything each independently of each other, while viewing the main map in tactical mode, at least when zoomed out to the extreme. I would also like to be able to see where ALL of my ships are going (auto pilot trail) via a t
The game needs sorting of lists. much like GC2 had. Some examples: List sorting. Planet list by name, class, manufacturing points, population, current project, etc. -- much like GC2. Ship list by name, class, etc. -- much like GC2. &nbs
The other relics have a similar problem.
This is also true of the cost of shipyard projects and research projects when the main governor is adjusted.. All of these should be updated when the primary governor is adjusted, and any of those affected by the planetary governor should be updated when it is adjusted.
Don't forget that there is another factor that goes hand in hand with the amount of RAM you have: The settings for the OS's swap file (virtual memory). If you have only 4GB RAM and have the virtual memory settings set to limit the swap file to 4GB or less, or even turned off, then you are at risk of running into "out of memory" problems or hangs, even with the lower game settings.
An Intel I5 chip can have either 2 or 4 cores (supporting 4 or 8 threads) and the I7s have 4 cores (8 threads). I have an I7 and GC3 uses all 8 threads.
