Econundrum, with only 6GB RAM I can see where the version 0.82 (Beta 5 patch 2) on your PC would be doing a lot of page swapping on all but the smallest two map sizes (and maybe even there). When the combat viewer becomes active it can cause even more page swapping. Beta versions prior to beta 5 would have been worse, since beta 5 includes some memory usage optimization. Also, I just saw an announcement that more memory usage optimization is coming real soon. It may be worth while to

I understand your frustration. Many of us have been there, then found out that the problem was with our own computers. A post that has many good things to check is https://forums.galciv3.com/461332/page/1/#3535340 by Bamford. Of particular interest in your case would be how much RAM you have installed and what your system settings are for your "virtual memory". You can find what the OS thinks these are by running DxDiag and looki
That is just a couple of different ways different people refer to the same thing. It is also known as Beta 5.2 or Beta 5 patch 2. I just refer to it as what the title page calls it, version 0.82. I think it is worth trying out for a couple of reasons, 1) it is getting to be quit fun, 2) If you are going to have any system issues it would be good to get them resolved now.
Agreed. This is a lot of tech points wasted, both for the player and for the AI.
I have some serious doubts about whether they are going to get everything down to the minimum/recommended memory specifications they have specified. The whole scope of what they are putting into the game is HUGE. I can see the 4GB minimum working (when they get it all worked out) for the smallest galaxy size, lowest graphics settings (resolution and options), lowest number of opponents, etc., but when you get all of the extra custom races you can add on an "insane" galaxy with all of the oppo
If you see a resemblance then you have a much better imagination than I do.
I have been able to send ships into orbit of planets, and I have attacked planets with ships in orbit. I have not yet had a ship or fleet attack one of my planets that had ships orbiting it. The planets with ships in orbit that I have attacked have defended themselves. From this I would conclude that ships in orbit of your own planets should be able to defend your planets. If they fail to do so, please open a ticket.
I have had several ships that I set to automatically "explore" that have bumped into anomalies and caused the message "only survey ships can analyse anomalies". Since these ships are not set to automatically analyze either the ship should just ignore the anomaly or it should be steered around it. Telling me a ship is not allowed to do something it is not trying to do is silly.
As Seilore says, the setting gets reset for me also every time a new code drop comes in, but after it plays I set it on again and it stays that way until the next code drop. If, however, you are saying that it won't stay set between code drops, then there is something wrong somewhere.
Yes, I had this problem when trying to load a game saved on the previous code drop, but so far with games saved from the current level of the game I have had no problems. This is to be expected during any beta cycle. If your save was from a new game started with the current code level then your submitted ticket will help Stardock find the problem. You might also try renaming or deleting the folder \my games\GalCiv3.
Civ V is another restructuring of how they handle trade. In Civ II the mechanism was much as it is in GC1, 2, and 3. I really don't understand why Sid keeps changing how trade is done in Civ, but I like it best as it was in Civ II and is in GC. It just seems to me that some effort is needed to get a trade route established, and sending a ship to the other end of an intended trade route seems to fit the bill very nicely.
E6750
Yes, but be sure to update your "virtual memory" settings as Bamford described. With 8GB, MicroSoft recommends a setting of min=8192MB and max=24576. Also, there are some caveats about heat generation, map size, resolution, display settings, galaxy settings, and number of opponents, but you will have to try them out to see what will work for you.
Uploading saved games to the cloud could very well be what I am seeing. Unless you have a very fast web connection the time it takes can get annoyingly long. My upload connect speed is only about 800 Mbps. I am also turning it off, as I don't see saving games as sufficiently critical with the slow connect speed I have. Many thanks for the explanation.
Every time I close GC3, or it terminates abnormally, Steam syncs something to "the cloud". It is a huge amount of data that takes 4-6 minutes to complete, during which time GC3 can not be restarted. This only started in beta 5. Why is there so much data that is considered so critical that it all has to be sent up-link?
Also, this was reported during the Alpha test cycle and is still a problem for us. It takes new players a couple of times to get sufficiently used to this quirky way of telling the game we have changed our mind about doing a save. Something other than "Done" would be much appreciated. "Done" implies we have finished the task we went to this window for, not that we decided not to do it after all.
Willy, 1) This is not a problem of great urgency. 2) Stardock is taking a 4 day weekend, so I don't expect anyone to be there to actually fix any problems. 3) I have seen what happens when a single thread gets stacked up with multiple bug reports, and it is not pretty. 4) I have not heard from a Stardock employee that we should change how we report bugs. My post here is for the general information of all. As I said, I have opened a ticket to communicate my
Willy, what "changelog"? If you mean the pinned and locked "master changelog", then ...
I created a custom race with the Racial Trait of Colonizers. I colonized many planets (I had 13 planets in my planet list, if it matters). I colonized another plant and started placing construction projects. After placing the first project (a rushed job as befits the Colonizers trait) I decided I had made a mistake and wanted it on a different tile, so I selected the item in the manufacturers list, selected the tile I wanted the project in and the project to build, clicked "build" to activate
Those ships are in the diplomacy screen because they are tradable. You wouldn't trade cars with someone else if you couldn't look the car over, would you?
If you are referring to the overpowering trail going from a planet into the unexplored area, this is a trade route. I have seen this since the beta that added trade and reported it as overpowering at that time. My guess is that they just haven't had time for the niggling little issues just yet.
Interesting enough the ZOC and ZOI (Zone Of Influence) definitions were discussed to some length some time ago. ZOC was deemed to mean the area you have control over that others could not enter without permission or declaring war, which in the entire GC series is at the edge of the tiles your planets are in. ZOI is the extent over which you have influence in a commercial sense. So your ZOI could extend to another player's planets and could, with time, cause the planet to flip their allegi
Devs or admin, please pin this. It has lots of good hits for newbees that run into trouble and I am often pointing to it. It ran so far down the list that I had a lot of trouble finding it this time. Thanks.
I have a ship design template that I am displeased with and want to remove it but have been unable to find anything provided in the game to do so. Has anyone found the trick?
Also, in GalCiv III your crashes automagically get reported so we know what is causing what problems for players. That's one of the reasons why we can put out a stability patch so much faster now than in the "old days".
Are you saying there is no longer a need to report crashes? What if we have to force a dump using Task Manager, does that also get reported via Steam? And for 64 bit addressing programs?
The best first step is to read through the post " GalCivIII Support FAQ ". Many causes of crashes are listed there and how to solve them. Also included are the steps for reporting issues of all kinds and what needs to be gathered and sent in the report. So far, GC3 does not gather and automatically report crashes, so you will need to run a tool provided by Stardock (they will tell you where to get it) and open a "ticket" as describ
