VALVE is doing this withe their "Steam Techbology" that is in beta right now... (VALVE poduces Half-Life/Counter-Strike and a few other mods or something...) I feal like I am advertising a diffrent game on the galciv forums so I will shut up now. ~SDC~

I got an idea... everyone give your answer to this then we decide which is the best... How many Drengins does it take to put in a lightbulb? ~SDC~
It always depennds... there are always diffrent tech routes you can choose with so many choices. Sometimes I go for terror stars right away(can't remember the date, but I think somewhere around the time I started getting dreadnoughts as well...). If you look at JavaScotts tech tree(in the fan pages under the encylopedia) you can see the requirements. Terror stars are really fun :) ~SDC~
Whats really neat is because you build them off of Star Bases they always act like starbases keep the things when you modified on them. You can build these terror stars with all of the cultural infulences bonuses(when add up you can get +400% percent or more... not sure). When you move them around planets nearby sometimes convert just becasue they will increase your infleunce so much in that region... it is neat to see all the planets surrender before the Terror Star gets close... guess they w
There is an attack tactic when you invade the planet to use gasses... it makes it so you can take over the planet easier, but it also hurts the planet. There are a few diffrent selections of howto invade planets, each have a cost, bonus and sometimes it hurts the planet(IE mass drivers). You can also mod these and add your own :) ~SDC~
I wrote a paper on Stalin... at the end my teacher wrote "I hope you never become the prisident... " hmmmm.... It was wether Stalin's brutality was needed to obtain the production they acheived... and I said that it was needed... I think it sounds alot more sinical then I wrote it to be, it is funny to read.... In real life I wouldn't hurt a fly... well maby a fly(I eat meat....) but I do respect life. Just a game, not hurting anyone anywhere(or did SD forget to mention something?) <
Hey... it was kind of sad what I was going to the Drengins earlier... they had 2 planets and I was playing as good for a change but when they got one of their planets upgrade to class 35 I couln't resist. This was early on in the game so all I had was a bunch of BattleCruisers... they had a few Battle Axes(high def). They knew I could kill them but I was having a hard time doing it... considering my military was about 10x more than theres in numbers I simple did not want to take the time to ki
I have never been able to survive w/out any war ships... NEVER... the other races are smart, and they know picking on the weak will lead to their strength. ~SDC~
I know that SD has a product which would allow companys to liscence windowsblinds into their software... I think its called DirectSkin or something like that... pretty neat. I don't know if gciv will be in windows or not, if so I wouldn't expect it soon becasue it is alot of work for that and unless they planned on doing that near the beginning would require ALOT of code rewrite AFAIK. There will be an unsupported "windowed" mode of gciv which means the entire program will urn in one w
I thought I heard one of them talking about some weapon that also damages ships in an area... might be for 1.x or even bonus pack :) ~SDC~
Hello everyone! ~SDC~
No... becasue the AI can get them as well... in fact usually they get better things then you do as far as I have seen, but it is probably pretty even. A class 52 planet is great... but many things can happen to it... and I don't think I will ever see one again... ~SDC~
There is an event that I have seen once so far that chooses a random alien planet and adds 12 to each uncolonised planet within 2 sectors. This occured near the beginning of a game with me and there was a planet with class 38 or something. Because I was close to the alien I found it before they did and QUICKLY colonised it... to my astonishment I recehived the space slugs planet event increasing the planet even more. By the time I had finished with soil enhancement, habita improvement, terraf
I think it is fun... and I like all sorts of games... First person shooters, a few real time stratagies... amazingly I prefer multiplayer games, but I really like Gciv... played it from when it was first on os/2(The OLD gciv for anyone who doesn't know...). Its fun... I think everyone should be able to enjoy it as long as they arn't creating the perfect game in their mind and expecting it(like moo3)... ~SDC~
Bizarre you make many good points, and many of them I had in mind for creating this(new ships, tech, events ect...). Some of those things are also not possible yet as far as I can see, but I would do them if I could. I chose Mr. Morden for the Shadow ambasador becasue he IS the shadow ambasador... ~SDC~
Ahhh... but I am saving the precursors for the Old ones and the Dark Lords for the thirdspace aliens... those will really spice it up :) ~SDC~
You can edit nearly all the text in the language file(default for english is english.str). You can add your own events, ships, anomalies(still don't know howto spell that), technologys, social improvments, wonders and galactic acheivments. You can change many of the grafics if you have the right programs.(Supposedly in the BonusPak there will be a tool to add your own ships) GCiv uses .bik to store movie files... you can make these from many diffrent files types if you use the rad too
I like to play the largest size(40x40 I think it is) and I am sure it is possible to eliminate the oponet before the tech runs out. As far as plant improvements and such I also think they will last a VERY long time. Personally I have 1-2 planets which I do concentrate on getting ALL social improvements to construct some really nice planets, but most of my planets don't finish everything by the time I reserach all the technology(which is my favorate way of winning). Keep in mind that S
It is probably becasue you are winning the game through influence... if you knock down the other aliens till they are almost destoryed alot of times you win by influence rather than military. Winning by tech is kind of an interesting thing to do... you have to have your reaserch up higher than anyone else but make sure your military is strong enough to defend against war and such. I like to win through tech and it takes awhile, and a few wars, to get there... most aleins usually decide
I will feal left out unless I test it to LOL ~SDC~
"I NEVER played single player in turn based games." Then how do you know they arn't fun? If you want to play THIS game with your friends then your would have to expect to play for a few days... this isn't like a WC3 game that takes 3 hours at most. You might be able to speed up the game if you constatly hit the turn button, but what would be the point? You really don't know what you are missing out on... this game is great!
From Brad's Post" "Getting the game.. Stardock itself will be selling the OEM version directly (i.e. not in the retail box but in a DVD case instead). It will be $44.95 and while you wait for the CD to arrive you will be able to immediately download the game. The download can be broken up into parts (i.e. core game + multimedia + bonuspak) so if you're really anxious, you can start playing as soon as the core game is done downloading while awaiting the multimedia suff. Don't think so... "Number of players: 1 through 10 or more online players "
ROFLMAO... so thats how I keep winning...
-Added "First Time in Debt" Message I don't have a screen shot or anything for this but I had around 2500 bc in store and making 50-60 a turn and got the message... it said it stopped all social and military productions but nothing happend.
