We are working very hard to have a seamless experience for our existing customers on Vista when it is generally available, let alone the enhancements we have planned. Now that the Vista RTM builds are available, more bits are becoming available in beta or release versions from Stardock. Kris

Given that the Dark Avatar beta is going out as I type this, there maybe some confusion. You may happily download the standalone installer updates for your base GC2 build at work, transfer to usb or whatever, install at home, and activate over dialup in a matter of moments. There is no standalone installer for the Dark Avatar beta. That said... you may install the DA beta at the office and then use the Archive functions in Stardock Central to create a .sdc archive fi

Another comment: you must have the Stardock Central 2.38.432 Build 139 (or later) to be able to install the build. I know based on testing that somehow a few people still are on Build 115 from February (that one had a bug that didn't auto-update). If need be, slap http://storage.stardock.com/files/sdcentral_setup.exe over it and you should be up to build 139. Kris

In response to a question earlier, you will be able to purchase the DA beta and get initial access to it for at least the next week (probably a couple of days more given the holiday next week). But, it will be closed again at some point and things will move back to preorders for new purchases until otherwise noted. Updates for those with access will continue to follow until we move into further phases of testing, at which point new updates will be to a more limited group up until rel

Please do _not_ order again. Either your preorder will process tonight or it won't, but it'll be done by morning. I know some have already failed (incorrect info, expired info, etc). If you have preordered and you don't get the email tonight, please gently contact [email protected] after 9am EST and we'll get things sorted. The more info you can include (like say your order email/number or at the very least the email address), the better.

Version 1.1 (which is now available) has a "diff" feature which (if enabled) looks over the revisions and creates "diff" files with the changes between versions instead of storing full files. You can also (manually) enable NTFS compression on the target archive folder if you like.

Enough. Tom had a contract with us to work on the GalCiv2 manual, completed his work, and was paid for it last December (as best I know for when the check should have been cut for when the work was completed, there's quite the lead time for physical manufacturing of items). There is no ongoing business relationship with him, no contract for work, no payments to him based on GC2 sales. We contracted with him for a widget and he delivered it. Stardock has spoken with him under

A beta of WB that supports Vista will be available after we release WB 5.1. 5.1 comes out in 2-3 weeks. The Vista-supporting beta for WB (and other products) will start for Object Desktop customers at some point after that.

Well, it wasn't quite ASAP, but I've done it now. And included a slight fix to a bit of text in the French version as well. This only impacted the standalone download. New version up on the Downloads page at galciv2.com (galciv2_131_bonuspack_092106.exe).

Gregory2001 - looks like one of the themes that were shown in the article from about 3 weeks ago is still being worked on. Keep an eye out for it - hopefully it will be ready soon! For those who want to create their own themes, Jeff Bargmann, creator of ObjectBar, has posted a skinning guide. You can find it by going to www.objectbar.net and clikcing on the documentation button. Hope everyone likes it! <img src="http://images.stardoc

The Republican ticket I wrote down more than 2 years (a week or two after the last election) ago was McCain/Giuliani. I don't think the reverse would fly. It does not please me at all that we'll have to take more than 2 years to resolve the question of the next US President. Especially not with it being part of the news cycle for much of that period of time. Kris
