Well, I agree with you GW. It's the expected response of a nation that has someone declare war on one of it's allies and it shouldn't be a diplo black mark. I second that as well. One's repuatation shouldn't drop because you stuck with your ally -- that's what would be expected of any nation (to stay with one's ally).

For me, Shogun Total War is a game that always sticks out. It wasn't the first title to combine turn-based empire-building with a real-time combat element, but it was probably the first to do it *well*, and in a way that was both fun & meaningful. One only has to look at how the Total War franchise is doing today to see the kind of success it's had. Even more remarkable than being one of the first successful hybrid TBS/RTS games, however, was how combat in Shogun was modeled.

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing multiplayer in GC2, but I wouldn't want it if it meant the singleplayer experience would be affected. I think playing GalCiv online against a friend or two would be fun, but it's not something I would do all that often -- I only rarely play MP matches, including strategy games.

I rarely play til the end, but that's partially because I rarely go for the conquest victory -- I usually go for an alliance victory when possible. Also, I tend to play on the larger maps, which usually means that I'm more ready for the game to end once I've reached that "critical mass" (where you know you're going to win).

Nice article. Can't wait for that fantasy strategy title to come out. I'm a little confused on one thing, however -- is this second expansion for GalCiv 2 a free update then? For as wonderful as you folks at Stardock are, I confess I find it hard to believe even you'd do that for us!

I turned 30 last December, and I'm still not used to it. By the way, I think it's terrific so many of my fellow players here are around my dad's age (he'll be 59 next month) -- it means there's still hope for him. Seriously, though, I love that GalCiv's audience covers such a wide age range. I

Apologies if this has been brought up -- indeed, I'm sure it has -- but I couldn't find the answer to my question in the Features, FAQ, or in the first 10 pages of the forums here: How many planets will each map size have? 20-40-60? 5-30-100? I'm just trying to get a sense of how epic this game will be....and speaking only for myself, bigger is usually better.

Epic Generator didn't make the cut. But we still want to try to get it in there in the future. A LOOOOT of work went into it. Indeed. It would be a shame if it never gets included. Brad, do you think it will make it into an update, or will it most likely not get added until another expansion pack?

In all honesty I would fork over $20 just for an AI upgrade. I wouldn't do that for any other developer. I concur. I'll probably forever be a fan of Stardock games, if for no other reason than because AI is so near and dear to Brad's heart. You probably won't find his dedication to improving the AI in *any* other strategy game on the market to

Upon further inspection, while the gameplay may not be a problem, it seems PC games have got the short end of the stick with the game only being ported to PC as an afterthought since the graphics and controls seem subpar. That said I'm saying all this second hand and what may not work for somebody else may work for me. I've been seeing that in ot

Well even as recently as 6 months ago, Brad had mentioned Galactic Federations as something he would've liked to do--although even then, it probably would be at least a couple years before it was actually made. While it's certainly possible I only imagined he said that, I'm still pretty sure he made mention of it earlier this year. Of course, even if he did say as much (and that I'm not imagining it), it doesn't mean he's still planning/hoping to make "GalFed". With all the projects

Frogboy has also mentioned possibly making a space RTS he dubbed "Galactic Federations". This was before it was announced Stardock was publishing Sins, though, so he may have dropped that idea for now.

Noooooo!! If the Epic Generator gets cut, I'll definitely be one of the bummed-out players. Not that I don't understand your explanation for why it might not make it into the expansion, but I really really hope it doesn't come to that. Speaking only for myself, the EG is probably the biggest attraction in Dark Avatar. I know you're right in that it's essentially "fluff", but I've been really looking forward to it. If it ends up having to go, I'll understand; but I'll be very sad i
