If you've played RTW and the poor AI and lack of immersive atmosphere got you down, I'd advise waiting until the veteran players in the related forums have had a chance to hash it out before making your decision to buy. Only problem with that is, most Total War veterans are waiting for other veterans to play the game before they'll pick it

I've had problems with IE crashing in these forums for months now. I can't even pull up the forums at all on my work computer--it just gets stuck moving from the main page, and doesn't go any further. I'll try upgrading to IE 7, though, and see if that does the trick. Here's hoping!

Another little touch is that clouds move independently of the planet's surface so as you see planets rotate, you can see the weather on the planets cycle around (though a screenshot won't really show much new on that since it's in the animation). Awesome, Brad. It's the little details like that than can really make a game shine. I would never

Man, this simply rules. The developer of my current favorite game (Stardock) and Ironclad teaming up simply seems too good to be true. I've been looking forward to Sins coming out for a while already, and I think it's terrific that it's going to be published by the makers of GalCiv 2!

KICK ASS! I've been keeping my eye on Sins as well--it's the only other space strategy game in which I've taken a genuine interest (aside from GC2, of course). I honestly can't think of a better company to be publishing it!

Man, so you guys want to do remakes/sequels to both Master of Magic and Star Control 2. You guys have too much taste and not enough staff. Aye. 'Tis the bane of Stardock's existence, it seems.... By the way, I'm glad to hear Dark Avatar is going to have even more stuff than before. I think it will be well worth the delay. <img

Congrats, HsojVvad , glad to see you picked up the game. Kblore and CraigHB have already answered most of your questions, but I just wanted to address your question about updates. Version 1.31 is the most recent update for GalCiv 2, and Brad (Frogboy) has said that will be the final update before Dark Avatar is released. Of course, if a major bug is found between now and t

Kerebos seem to be looking for someone to blame, perhaps a attempt to bash the 'perceived' competetion. Out of 20 reviews the game did not get over 80%, its a promising looking game but needs more work/depth to be a true classic. That's my impression as well (that Kerebos is looking for a scapegoat), which if at all true, would be silly in the ex

Well if it's available online-only, I'll probably pick up Dark Avatar....eventually. I still very much prefer to buy games at an actual physical store, however. Online shopping--no matter what it is--just doesn't appeal to me that much. It might be more convenient and/or cheaper (although in my experience neither is really the case that often), but purchasing things on the web....it takes away from the shopping experience for me. Maybe I'm just a sentimental old coot for feeling that way, bu

I wouldn't mind seeing mega-events, but I admit there's one I'd be particularly interested in: The Dreadlords suddenly showing up! Whether they simply start with a "swarm" of ships and invade straight away, or whether they first colonize a previously-uninhabitable system and then go on the rampage, I don't care. But I'd really love to see a Dreadlord invasion in my regular sandbox games.

Thanks for the update, Cari! So first off, what's this about custom star systems? Are you referring to designing a custom race's homeworld? I really like the idea of being able to create our own minor races as well; that would be a sweet addition to the game. I sincerely hope you pull it off! Overall, however, I think that AI "test mode" is probably the thing that excites me the most. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/BigSmile.gif" border=0

But he already got a serious answer. The weird sex references were just a bonus. LOL! @ dragonrift : As V1m pointed out, 4x stands for "eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate". It's a simple phrase that refers to the 4 main stages of most types of space conquest games (along with other strategy games like Civ). <b

I voted for a turn-based fantasy strategy game. I've played a couple that were decent (Disciples, AoW), but none that were truly what I was looking for. Given how well GC2 has turned out, I think Stardock would do very well if they gave us a fantasy strategy game. Also, I echo El Conquest's opinion that Society looks and sounds good from what we've seen so far, but that I'm reserving further judgement until I see more.

I've been following this game for a while now; it looks promising. I won't be getting it, however, because of two things: 1.) Only 4 races. Not much replayability there, even if their gameplay styles will be different. 2.) No ground invasions. You can only take over a world by completely destroying its population and sending in one of your own colony ships. I realize that probably won't bother most people, but for me it's a complete turn-off. Fortunat
