Drachasor , I am often in the same boat -though I don't choose +defense and +weapons for my custom races-. One contributing factor that you seemed to miss is the fact that your ships get better and better as they defeat enemy ships, thus leading to a rather nasty snowball effect. As far as speed goes, how exactly is it that you guys are thinking its gonna help? In terms of the AI reacting to your superior ships by zipping in and smotherin

Beam weapons have STYLE!
Yeah yeah thats kinda what I figured. Still kinda a letdown though- hell, if you want to get down to it, there should be no ship sounds either, since sound doesnt travel in space.
Is it just me or is the beam of the psionic beam weapon invisible?
Err allow me to rephrase (a little low on sleep here, so please pardon me if I ramble a bit ). I was referring to the fact that its a bit disconcerting for me when my ships, equipped with long-barreled mass drivers and/or energy weapons, can shoot and connect with shots even when the barrels of their weapons are not oriented towards their target(s).<b
Yeah, that kinda poo-pooed the editor for me- whats the point when all the shots come from some magical point on the ship instead of from the weapon barrels/missile packs/lenses/whatever? Another thing is the tendancy for the ships to play bumpercars. This is especially noticable with bigger ships and fleets, and even more so with fleets consisting of big ships.
How exactly does a cultural starbase work? I have seen the AI place them aggressively (in my territory) but the ingame text seems to indicate that I should build them near my own planets, where they would presumably amplify the influence of any of my planets within their area of effect. Do they generate their own influence? Should I put them on the borders between my area of influence and my opponents'?
But I've already turned half my population into "Juice", and the other half is busy mining poisonous crystals.
Gahhh thats even more work . You'd think a race that can travel between galaxies could program some mechanical soldiers to fight for them (especially the Iconians, though I guess I can understand why they would be leery of such things). I mean, mini-soldiers are fine and all, but why oh why must we have flesh and blood troops by the billions?
If your tower is filled with smoke, I think you have bigger problems than the AI plotting against you .
So the Arceans, who I have had a long, long history of bad blood with, decide yet again that they are going to remove my evil from the galaxy. And yet again, I shift the focus of my economy from peaceful (yet EEEEVIL ) development to ship building. And yet again, I am simply going from planet to planet, destroying every single ship the Arceans have without losing a single one of my own (they're using missiles, so I loaded up on m
Is it just me or can no one see this post?
Fanboy dogpile! Whats so wrong with wanting a little more?
Honeycomb, honeycomb, me want honeycomb! If you need me I'll be off playing with a maxxed military production bonus.
Do more adv. marketing centers on a planet = more benefit, or not? I seem to recall reading someplace that certain buildings did not give you any benefit after the first one on a given planet was made. Did they ever fix that? Also, if a planet falls within the radius of more than 1 starbase, does it get a benefit greater than if it fell within the radius of just one? Should I be honeycombing my star systems with beneficial starbases?</fon
All defenses will protection you from all weapons, its just that specialized defenses are the best. (which, come to think of it, may make sense for shields and armor, but not so much for ECM equipment. Oh well .
If you make more than one starbase in a sector, do you get double the bonus?
If they worked the way you suggest, then influence starbases would become ridiculously powerful
RAUGGGGH!
Uhm, I'm fairly sure that the distance of the freighter (from it's planet of origin) at any given time determines the amount of income you get from it on that turn.
Would it be at all possible to make resources a bit more visible on the minimap? On a small map its pretty easy to spot them, but on a Gigantic size map I find that even if I go through the process of zooming in, fiddling the filters, and scanning all over my empire, sometimes I'll end up missing a resource or two-- a fact which I will only realize once I encounter an enemy starbase, happily mining away. Grr. I find mys
Do you get notified when other races leave the U.P? For that matter, DO other races ever leave the U.P? As far as the consequences go, all the other nations hate you and then after you invade a country that never attacked you, you have to go begging to them for help.
"I just found an interesting quirk - if your planet has no military project, the military spending value is displayed in parentheses and no money is spent. However, if you have no social project, the money seems to vanish. Whether it gets used for anything, I have no idea. So until anyone discovers where the money goes, beware moving up the social slider to 100%, make sure all your colonies are using the money!" I laughed out loud when I rea
"+ Toned down minor races a bit. They no longer get quite as much money to start with." NOOOO there goes my cashflow .
That makes sense for engines and defenses (armor, shields, etc) but not so much for weapons.
