0 troop, troop ships have been around for a while... I find them hysterical. I've never seen more than 1 or 2 in a game. Getting hit over and over, is probably a new bug.

As many have said mainly early to show some force smalls are the way to go. The problem I've had skipping to mediums is it tends to take too long to get them going, and even if you do, you don't tend to have the concentrations of them you need. (or they're not in the right places) The nice things about the smalls is its easy to use them later in the game as your standard defenders. (fleet them up at your starbases, set one to gaurd key areas, and leave them on forward plane
Actually I'd like NO ships on the start. That would actually force you to decide how you were going to start the game. Would it be worth building scouting ships? I don't know. Along with that, I'd love to see colony ships be more expensive, so that I can't just spam them out instead of scouting...
NEW: Governor that sends all ships of a specified class, and the colonies building that ship class, to target a given rallypoint OM*G !!! I wanted that at least a year ago. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
I'm getting consistent crashes. Anyone else ? (I'm sending a save game, and the error files now.)
Try flipping the beta flag on and off on SDC.
I do play evil, so that does have some relevance. I probably shouldn't have mentioned it in the post. The ship speed and ability of the AI fight a war are the real issues. To me, the events/resolutions are clearly affirmative active to help the AI which is pathetic in these dimensions. I'm close to giving up my game with the 5 speed limit. It is just too tedious to wait for transports to cross the galaxy. I geuss I'll never play with mega events again.
Not sure if these would be the stupidest, but : 1) not bothering to build factories to get a planet developed. 2) completely terraforming a planet, and then just letting it rot. 3) forgetting to move ships. 4) attacking into certain death, when they could attack a massive transport fleet. 5) sending transports deep into my territory, when their battle fleets are being massacred. Actually, these don't seem stupid anymore. They would only be stupid if the AI occa
Spore ships are very worth it. They make it very easy to keep your ships moving, ie taking planets as fast as your battle fleets clear them. This is for a few reasons : 1) They're faster since they don't need the troop modules. 2) They're cheaper. 3) They can be built everywhere. (low pop planets) If you want to populate the planets, then just build ferries with either troop modules or colony modules. Just 1/2 billion colonists make a big difference in getting a conq
I've got a game right now, that I'm ready to throw the towel in on. An event happened, that restricts ships to 5 to avoid damaging the fabric of space... Ug. Its a gigantic universe !! What am I supposed to pile into my ships now that engines are useless ? My bigger point, is that it now seems quite a few events, and/or features of DA seem to me nothing more than affirmative action for the shortcomings of the AIs. ESPECIALLY this one! Lets see: 1) restrict ship speed to 5
How about some basic bug fixing? 1) Constructors that bring up the upgrade window, but then don't actually get used. 2) Why doesn't "F" fleet my ships anymore? 3) Plenty of surfaces in the ship designer are inside out, forcing you to flip parts around. 4) 10% war penalty, that only results in 10BC on any size economy. on and on...
BUMP. All this is still valid. Why Stardock, are you adding more and more features when you don't address basic problems such as this? Not bothering to manage the build queue would severly slow me down, I can only imagine how much better the AIs would be if you addressed this. Is there some reason you can't do this?
I generally agree on all points above, but mostly with: Yep. I think the devs validated their software on small maps, and then did scalability testing on the larger maps (to test memory, performance, etc.). The AI for large maps was probably not validated extensively. Takes a long time. The biggest reasons being: 1) Ship speed. Face it, the AI still doesn't build "fast" ships. Not even avg speed in my book. This makes the AI terribly s
Maybe. It depends on your settings and your homeworld. At least it looks like you'll get a few planets off the start, and then the plan would be to wipe out the humans. Also with this sort of start, you can often get a good number of resources since your colony rush ends so fast. With any luck the terrans will be busy sending colony ships competing for planets on the other side while you crush them...
If you've got an app that keeps eating memory, what difference what the limit is? This just seems like common sense. Even if windows did start swapping more memory, the game would suffer. (and eventually you'd hit a wall there too) I'm sorry, but if you're going to use dynamic memory, you'd better clean up after yourself. So does this mean the Out of Memory problem may actually get fixed?
My new superstition, which seems to work well, is to never use auto pilot to allow transports to attack planets at the end of the turn. That may sound crazy, but that's my experience. Most of my out of memory errors would come after an invasion on the end of a turn, the graphics would flake out, and the next turn I'd get the out of memory. Anyway if anyone else is regularly seeing this, I'd suggest giving this a try...
hmm that's odd... did you randomize the intelligence or anything that'd account for it? Nope.
I don't think so. The game I'm playing currently the kryn can't seem to redesign thier ships. Me and the the other 3 Ais have pretty much topped out our weapons, and here the Kryn are still using basic lasers. Worse, they did the best on the colony rush, and had a good lead on tech. They're currently sending hordes of crappy fleets my way, which go up like kindling. Meanwhile the Korath are actually pretty annoying. For the 1st time in a long time I haven't been able to do
For me, I agree that piracy is not the problem. Most of the time I go to bestbuy, and I can't even find a game that I think I'll like. It seems the only sensible way to pick a game is to read a zillion reviews, which I usually don't do before happening to be in a store. The game boxes don't tell you jack. A lot of them don't even show a "real" picture of the game. You have no idea what the gameplay is going to be. For me, I'm down to one or two PC games a year, and usuall
These things are always under investigation, though when there's been no progress, there really isn't much to comment about it That's all I was looking for. I'm just hoping that stardock puts more effort into this than into new features. Thx for the reply Kryo.
They should at least give bonuses to ships in orbit... Not that it would matter because the AI doesn't bother to protect its starbases... Other than wasting hords of constructors on defense which doesn't do jack...
Seem there's a huge memory leak somewhere. From my experiances, it seem located in the invasion screen and into the AI scripts... I've noticed that too. After an invasion often things seem to deteriate... For me I've had less problems, but they're still there. I had thought it was gone, but now I've experienced them less and differently. Hello stardock ?? Are you addressing this or not?
It's funny I had never used it until I had a game I stole the tech, and it was worth using. I had the same expression...Wow that's cool... Too bad the weapons stats suck for general use... I really miss the gc1 weapon graphic where it was like a triangle of death that just evaporated the enemy... BTW, can someone mod in a wave motion gun?? That would be sweet...
Trade is still useless on larger maps. Period. I think the the change that needs to happen is to have a general economic bonus as a side effect of trade. Right now trade is just too weak. It's yet another reason to stick with evil... (also this is again more evidence that the devs don't care about play testing larger maps. Don't get me started about AI ship speed...)
Turning off enhanced ship rendering seems to help. (I didn't have any problems in a game session). If I can play another 2-3 hours without a problem, then that will synch it for me. In which case stardock needs to look at enhanced ship rendering... Thx for the suggestion Peace Phoenix.
