I've found something that I don't entirely understand... If I have winamap playing music, and I get an out of memory, I can alt-tab out of DA, close winamp, say ya to the error dialog, go back into game, and then save. (without an error, and 2 for 2 a valid save) (then say thank god, and quit out) What I don't get is that I thought the memory issue only had to do with the process limit, not really what was avaliable. What I'm wondering is, do I get an out of memory sooner because I ha

In a single player game, why do people care if other people do this? If it bothers you, don't do it. Actually I don't care about them. What bothers me is that it essentially makes what you build on your planets irrelavent. I don't do it, especially because I don't care to micro manage the sliders. Essetially because of the sliders, everything is just units of stuff, that the sliders can convert into what you need. If that's the model you want, wh

Brad had something about what he would do in GC3... So I doubt he's going to change it now. The simplest thing to do is just change the way the focus buttons work, or get rid of them entirely. Since social production gets shifted to military once you're not building any ground projects, I don't think getting rid of them would be painfull at all. When the game first came out, this wasn't the case, and because of that you really needed the focus buttons. To me using industry

Given that there are problems out there that arise from saving, is it too much to ask the game to not delete my last quick save when I do another? I have had to replay far too many turns because of this, and I don't see why the save is done the way it is. I'd rather have the savegames pile up, and have to go delete them. I mean here we are in 2007, and you seem worried about a measely 9 meg save file? The old GC did this very well. I can't remember exactly how it did it, b

Good deal. After updating again, after playing for a few hours I started having problems. These started out as the minor blotched explosions, and they slowly got worse and worse. Eventually they started bleeding bigger and bigger, and finally I started getting the dreaded "white" square. Once that happened I knew the out of memory was coming... (and it did) Anyway I think a lot of progress on the memory problem has been made. Keep up the good work.

If you look at the debug log, there seems to be a bravery effect on ships. This may just be an experience level thing, but it may also improve your ship combat.

I'm getting garbled explosions. The crashes seem to be gone though. My textures for waypoints, and ship destinations are not displaying nicely either. Anyone else seeing this?

I wouldn't call it an exploit as such. Just think of it as the ship using each planets gravity to slingshot to the next. Then why doesn't the autopilot use it ? I agree it's a little cheesy, but it's not all that significant. I personally think it would be cool if the effect was stronger, ie you get an extra more for leaving orbit, and the auto pilot used it. It would be sort of a home turf speed bonus.

Have you tried the Thalians yet? The cheap factories early are amazing. The main issue with them is you have to get your survey ships rolling early to keep the build out going. With them, I usually take industrialist along with more social bonuses to build fast. Also you don't want to build too many industrial centers early because they'll sink you. To me, the only races worth playing are the Torians and the Thalians because of how good they are early in the game. Right

For me it only crashs on ship to ship combat, and I'd say 1 out of 50 at that. So it'll run fine until you get into a serious war. At least that's what I'm seeing. I've gotten into saving pretty much every turn. Again it is a beta, and as long as you save often it isn't too bad.

I've had some crashes, but nothing like the previous beta. These are sporadic, and as long as you save often, you can play... Also got a new PC, and enabled force to use CPU. Needless to say, I'm having an amazing game. The AIs all did well in the colony rush, beat me to most super projects, and are actually doing pretty good at designing ships.

Your title needs work...For a moment I thought you were saying superspy was good... Totally agree. Superspy is probably the weakest super abilty. The counter esp center is nice, but it's expensive to build early in the game. Maybe if every planet got a free CEC, then superspy would be decent.

Is Twilight of the Arnor going to be like DA was to DL? Or is it just a different branch off DL ? I'd have a hard time going back to DL, so I pray it includes DA. Brad, you really need to consider some sort of subscribtion fee for GC2. That way we know there's always more content coming down the pike...

So it doesnt really matter where you build a ISB (in your border, enemy or empty space at the end of the galaxy), the ISB will always have its default IP value to work with? Right. But also remember your influence spreads much further than the set border. The border is just where your influence is strongest, and exceeds some threshold. So even in someone else's turf, there is a residual amount of influence that you have, that gets amplified by

[quote] If it is more beneficial to be evil, then why do evil civilisations fail to prosper throughout history? History shows that most evil civilisations fall behind economically and technologically, just look at North Korea for example. Nope. The reason evil fails is that it tends to in-fight, and the goody-too-shoes tend to team up to take them down. Imagine 10 evil people against 10 good people. The evil side would be trying to win indivi

Although evil civs are "sopposed" to have hard time because the "Large" quantity of good civs will gang up on them, but it never happens, I've never seen two races form an alliance (this may not be true in D.A.) unless I was one of those races. Good Civs should get the benifit of relationship, in otherwords, they should cooperate, to rid the galaxy of evil. It should be an even match up, all good fights bad, instead of evil picks the do-gooders off one by one, and wins

Also, to turn off the auto-upgrade, hit the Details button on the lower left of the planet screen, then select Governor on the lower left of the Details screen, and follow the options. wowee!! Now for all 200 planets in an empire do this. Seriously there needs to be a real social governor.

I tend to think they're ok given that the AIs are playing the same game. Most of your economy is really getting your population going, and getting morale/economy bonuses going. The sad thing is the AI at higher levels actually decides it doesn't need stock exchanges since it already has enough money. I played a lower level game recently, and was amazed to see dumber AIs building stock exchanges early. I personally think part of the solution is to have to balance out "over-bui

This just points out how nice a real social govenor would be. All it would need to be is a prioritized list of what you want built/upgraded. The sad thing is such a governor could easily help the AI since it doesn't manage it's social build order whatsoever. I have to agree that using this as a strategy is a bit cheesy. I always play with tech trading turned off anyway, which actually helped me because I don't tend to bother with trading anyway.

Hopefully brad reads these. One on these days he'll improve the AI's ship building skills. AI needs more speed, and to use a bit more defense. (or a lot more defense...)
