I agree. MOO and GalCiv have a space theme. That's about the extent of what they have in common. They are intirely different games. People who get it in hopes of it being a better MOO than MOO3 was will be dissapointed (at least in that respect). ~SDC~
There WILL be a demo for the game very soon though... ~SDC~
It is random to an extent, but if a race is being destabilized the chances of it happening become much greater. And not only the Leage can show up, but it can cause an actual civil war wich will split the empire into two seperate factions... ~SDC~
Plus there is an early tech called Stellar Cartography which shows you where all the good planets are on the mini map, thus eliminating the AI advantage. ~SDC~
Actually, Social and Military production is seperate on every planet. The Governors are only for Social projects. Every planet plods away at whatever ship you set them to building, so in that way you have to manually set what ship the planet will be producing. The Social building continues on un-interupted by Military building. ~SDC~
Think of the 4 Governors as 4 different build queues. You set them up at the governor screen. You then asign the different Governors to planets and those planets build what the selected Governor (build queue) has set. And there is no Governor for military, you have to still pick what ships the planets make. The planet list makes this rather easy though... ~SDC~
No, the Governor IS a predefined list. There is no AI to build your stuff, if you asign a Governor and you don't put anything in his list the planet will dit there and build nothing. ~SDC~
They didn't remove ship design, it was never going to be in. ~SDC~
Oh yeah. I play the game every other weekend. I'm also running a PBEM of the game right now... This was one of the things that first brought this game to my attention, the similarities to TI are pretty cool... ~SDC~
probably less... there are WAY more stars with uninhabitable planets than with them... ~SDC~
I don't usually even use more than 1 or 2 until late in the game... and even then at least 1 has barely anything in their queue and only get assigned rarely... but that's just me. ~SDC~
Basically Governors are just build queus. You don't add planets to the governor's list, you asign a governor to a planet. So in essense you have 4 unique build queus that you can assign to planets at specific times. I usually have 1 governor for research, one for manufacturing, one for new colonies and one for economic growth. I keep an eye out for moral and deal with that myself as well as building trade goods and wonders. ~SDC~
Yeah, I live right next to a Future Shop and you can't order ANYTHING from them... it's either they have it or they don't. ~SDC~
No, the little mini frieghters that signify a Trade Route can't be stacked as the player doesn't actually control them. The best way to do it is to just patrol your TRs with ships... ~SDC~
they did say something about photons and phasers having different properties in some 1.x version... ~SDC~
Nope. Nothing like that in the game currently.(as of gamma) I think something was said about maybe putting things like that in after release... ~SDC~
The ability to mass medium to large ships into armadas or fleets is insignificant to the power of the Force.
Edmonton Alberta Canadia.
It would be damn cool if uncovering the mysteries of the Precursors could be a victory condition...
I like putting all my picks into Speed and then rush for Stellar Cartography and then produce Colony Ships like they're going out of style and after I've expanded until I can't expand any more I pick what type of victory I want to go for and go from there... ~SDC~
oh how i shall strategize... ;) ~SDC~
As for the download size, the game itself is around 60 megs and the extra multimedia is probably around 200+ megs. Sucks if you have dial up.
No carriers. The first attack ship you get is the Starfighter though.
I've replaced many of the MP3s with new ones to get Star Wars music into the game... kicks ass!
