§tatic: "bakerstreet this feature was in linux b4 XP" ... actually, like I was saying about the floppy, if your network card is supported you don't necessarily have to burn it. You can do a network install. Did I say anything about XP? *boggle*

What you need is a shell switcher. You point your 'shell=' line at it, and when your alternative shell's theme farts out you can just reboot and select the other until you have your theme situated. I think you will see that fixing the .ini in DOS is no big deal either, you just didn't know to do it.
Oh, and it was also mentioned on another thread that some ISPs require connection software that isn't made for Linux. You might wanna check that too if you run such stuff.
What you will download will most likely be a disk image. You burn it as a CD, make yourself a boot disk, and install it just like windows. If you do a bit of research, you might find that you can install over a network if your network card is supported. It doesn't work the same way as windows, so there is no way to leave your filesystem intact like upgrading from one windows Flavor to another. Consider it a clean format and install. If you decide to, make sure you go through and l
You might want to look at Sysmetrix, too. It doesn't account for buttons or objects on the desktop, but it might have been the app that displayed the information.
There are several applications that can do this. Shell replacements like Talisman or litestep, Desktop replacements like Stardock's or Hoverdesk, etc. Numerous apps. If you can find the screenshot again, or one like it, I'm sure someone here can point ya in the right direction.
http://www.planetpdf.com/mainpage.asp?webpageid=1787 "...ElcomSoft Co. Ltd., Sklyarov's employer, still faces criminal charges of circumventing copyright protection in Adobe Systems' PDF-based eBooks." dunno how that would effect plain PDFs, but supposedly anything made to defeat commercial encryption is a violation of the DMCA.
gray:surely MS, as stolid as they are about DRM, wouldn't make something that would do that. Actually, that is what that Russian developer was being put in jail for by Adobe, wasn't it? Anything that defeats commercial encryption is illegal now, right?
KarmaGirl: Hrm, no, I hadn't heard that. Isn't PDF an open format now? I was thinking that it was because of all the libraries I have seen for both compiled languages and web scripting. There are tons of ways to make them out there. PHP has a nice PDF Lib. Whether it is open or not, I am sure the license would have enough built-in to make MS pay for the right to use it commercially. I had heard
sorry, 'Housman'
A.E. Houseman said it well, too, I think: http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/ltg/projects/jtap/tutorials/intro/owen/athlete.html
paxx !!!! dang... that was the price they charged for win2000 here. Way too much to be simply the currency exchange. I wonder why? jj: you apologized at 4:17:20 AM. Then at 4:31:20 AM when the only person 'at it' was Kona trying to bait Boxxi into posting his IP, you chimed in and equated him to "hacker wannabes in Yahoo! chat". Why? No one was arguing. H
You saw who picking on Kona? I think you really are nuts. Reread. You said that to Boxxi, not me. Apologies don't count for much if you are doing the same thing 5 minutes later.
jj: look up at what you said AFTER your apology: "Me thinks BoXXi doesn't have any of our IPs much like the hacker wannabes in Yahoo! chat that say they can hack into your computer, but when you challenge them to say what your IP is, they can't say. " Are you completely insane?
I though jj79 was your wife's account? How do you keep them all straight?
lol... jj, you'll never learn. If you ever crack a book, you'll know that your IP gets sent to every server you visit. That's how they know who to send the information back to. If I wanted your IP I could have suckered you into clicking a link on my own webserver a dozen times and then read the logs. I'm not a l33t d00d like you though, and I have nothing to prove. i would say, though, if you can't keep Notepad from dialing out, you have no business telling anyone about sec
This was a good one, too... #55 by kona0197 - 4/6/2003 7:05:46 AM Who cares what Kona Did? You guys need to QUIT taking stuff out of porportion. I'm sick of it. So heres what Kona's gonna do: Laugh at every one who has a PC and gets that "Blue creen of Death" because Kona has a G4 Mac now. And Kona is gonna run XP on it. Two words: Unix based. BTW why is everyone yelling at me? I never attacked anyone here. Grow up people.
You are so UTTERLY full of crap... You know all your old posts are still here, right? From the 'gay' thread... #99 by kona0197 - 4/7/2003 5:01:49 AM got that right JM. BTW this is my first post with my Mac. Anyone know how to do screen shots on a mac?
How to take an OS X screenshot: Applications > Utilities > Grab http://macos.about.com/library/weekly/aa101700a.htm 48 seconds, google. Another useless fact I'll never use, found for someone who could have as easily cracked open a manual.
paxx: to play the devil's advocate, I would have agreed with you on price if we were talking about win2000. XP though is $99 US, though, right? Not what you would call a huge expense for something that is such a huge endeavor to develop...
BWAAA HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! there ya go, taunt the wookie. This is the first time this has felt like the old skinz...
jj and klona!!! Next to appear will be the one that starts with 'L' I saw this in a movie once. The next one will be the child personaility... oh, wait...
jj79_1999: Sure XP is crappy... even though it is used by millions of people, runs almost every peice of software known to man, is very stable, and has a plug-and-play relationship with tens of thousands of pieces of hardware. What is your definistion of 'crappy'? Stuff that works? No one here has even attempted to prove that it is spyware, so I am not gonna address arguments that have yet to be made. ** What exactly do you accomplish on your Linux box, other than ke
No, you can say those things, but only orally. Anal babbling is better done in less public places.
I wish i could think like that...
