If people alter stuff for their own use they aren't rippers. If you wanna take the time to cut out every image from a set and convert them to icons, hey, it's your time. I personally value that kind of time more than $9.95 I do, though, think it is kind of kind of offensive to be snide about 'welfare checks'. I know people that are on welfare, and I know a lot of people who are worth more than I'll make in my entire life. Stupidity and Class is evenly distributed across all level

Lecrayon: That's an odd conclusion. Why exactly are they browsing here now? There is no Talisman section, and yet here I am. Assuming that people will just refuse to come here if they can't get everything they need isn't logical. They can't get everything they need now. As a matter of fact it is a pain to upload skins to 5 or 6 duplicate sections on different sites. I'll say it again. If this is a community, and not a competition, then there would be no defeat in people going to

Lecrayon: "They turn away..." to who? Enemies? I hate the idea that somehow someone going to Devart or Deskmod is a defeat for WC. If you guys aren't comfortable going to other sites, I feel for ya, but most of use go to all of them anyway.

If you want to fix something that has weakened, look at what it was originally designed to do and compare it to what it's trying to do. If every site has to be 'everything to everyone', then this isn't much of a community. I don't think anyone can outdo the big bitbuckets at hosting wallpapers and the mega apps. Be better at what they aren't being better at. The problem isn't that people aren't paying, it is that some non-paying sections are costing too m

§tatic : What's not gonna work? What is gonna change? You are acting like this is a big deal. You have to be logged in. So? People can't register? What do you have to have, one whole email address? pfft. forget it. The point here is the drama, not actual circumstance.

okay, the peanut gallery didn't read the last line of my post, I guess. You didn't get it. The story wasn't about the tortilla chips, it was about the DRAMA. Frogboy said :"I think maybe tomorrow we'll see just how much impact the wallpapers are having and disable that section except for customers/registered users ." I'm not seeing the confusion. What is there to form a sewing circle over?

I fall right in the middle. I don't think people should get bored and leave the rest to 'default', but if a skin looks good with plain, flat buttons I don't think anyone should be given hell for using them. Too many times skinners get flamed because they didn't do fine detail on every single part. As long as the 'generic' aspects are as thought out as the detailed ones, I don't see any trouble. If the new WB makes that easier, I'm all for it. Sometimes a doorknob is just a doorknob.

D_S, Boxxi: Join me now, at a small, humble restaurant. The couple looks at each other, and then back to the man in the stained apron. They say, " ...but all Mexican restaurants have free tortilla chips!." "But please, I beg you. I can't afford it." the poor owner pleads, "You come and eat all the chips. I have good food. I work hard. If you keep eating just the chips the restaurant will close!" In the back, the hiding, silent 'chef d'

Sorry, all. I'll send someone a note next time; I know you can't see everything that slithers past. lmao... that was funny.

Don't get me wrong, I like pr0n *better* than the next guy, but... what UTTER drek. If anything on this site is moderated I would expect photoskins like that to be the first to go. I have seen that particular buttfloss all over the net; on logons, wallpapers, ICQ skins, you name it. There's no way that uploader took that photo himself. Something about "This one is one of the top downloads at Pocketpc4you.com " screams unoriginal material. sorry for the rant. Nuh, I dunno why it do

Frogboy: that is 5 megs per session, though, right? Couldn't a person with a dynamic IP come back with another IP and get another 5 megs? I would just do anything I could to add a layer of abstraction between the freeloader and the 'crimes of opportunity', i.e. manditory login, etc. Make it less comfortable to be here without being overtly *interested* in the focus of the site. As far as I can see, the only two choices are limiting the content and limiting the user. <

Now is when I annoy people, unfortunately. What are the freeloaders downloading? Is it the same thing as paying customers, or is it peripheral items, the condiments, as it were? Are there any sections here that are done better elsewhere? Any sections that also tend to have files of a large size? Is each section doing a substantial service for the app in question? Would, Winamp be helped or harmed by the loss of a section here, as compared to SysMetrix? Wouldn't it

mich2k: And then again lots of people don't need a 'terrain generator' to make terrain. You think there is no difference between somone that can do that quality of work freehand and someone who lets bryce make their trees for them? What makes me mad is when people are like "What? You expect me to actually draw trees and mnountains myself???? Why should I waste the time learning to draw water?" Comparing Bryce to real Artistic craft is like comparing Legos to Sculpture. Su

jebland: i am betting he is one of those guys that had a 90mgz computer with no USB ports and bought a USB printer, and then had to buy a USB card. So often Windows gets blamed for people trying to glue new stuff on old junk.

I have seen people navigate Windows much faster with the keyboard than I can with a mouse. The mouse is overused by people with a solid knowledge of computers. slicing with the hotkeys is really, really fast, too. It is a skill skinners/web designers could realy make use of, cutting up all those parts. in windows: 1. make your selection 2. Ctrl Shift 'c' (copy merged) 3. Ctrl 'n' (new image) 4. Ctrl 'v' (paste) 5. Alt 'l' 'f' (flatten the image

Hotkeys are something that are really overlooked in Windows use, I think. People don't wanna memorize them, but they are much, much more efficient than a mouse meovement/click combination. I keep seeing that commercial (earthlink?) on tv where it looks like the guy is playing a video game, but he is really trying to close pop-up windows. I wanna yell "Ctrl W, you twit!". Mac users seem more comfortable with hotkeys. If you every watch someone who has a *really* high comfort level

adam: That is utter crap. OSX is based on Unix, an operating system that pretty much makes Windows look like a commodore 64. Saying it is somehow a rip of XP is silly, what basis do you have for that? How about posting the dates of development for XP and OSX? How about giving me a list of features the two have remotely in common? If it is a rip, then you oughtta be able to say what was ripped. I'm not a fan of Mac, but I like for my bias to be based on seomthing close to the truth... <

And please, let's not forget that a torus is a basic shape in 3d apps, there's nothing special about it. So, chains of donuts, donut flowers, etc., should really be given a hard road during moderation. I think unaltered primitive shapes were immediately moderated on the Shoggot scale of moderation, and I am beginning to see why...

tinkergaloot: lol... ummm... shop around a bit and price those parts yourself, retail even. If I couldn't build an equivalent PC myself for less than 3 grand I would eat it without condiments. You can get a Sony 17" widescreen multimedia display for $999, from Best Buy ... and if I couldn't weasel my hardware cheaper than retail I'd quit. If you pay for a Mac, it is because you want a Mac. There's not a thing affordable about them.
