hrm... true. Since the purpose of an icon is to be referenced as a visible way of launching it, I would assume that any app that does so for that purpose would be within the icon's intended use. Netscape/Mozilla references app's icons when pointed at the local drive. People use Powerdesk as a file browser, as well. Pulling them out on-the-fly for shortcuts would have to be legal, I think. Jafo: Yeah, that is what I am getting at, really. Why not have ShellOn functionality built in? I used a similar shell-switcher when I was using LS before, and it did the same for me.

Well, i think the difference resides in 'distribution'. Some apps reference installed applications to 'display' icons for the shortcuts. The user owns these icons, they reside in purchased software. On the other hand, when a skinner extracts those same icons, alters or manipulates them, then redistributes them independant of the application; I think they are on unsure footing at best. brazil: actually, yes, I do. We talked about this recently on the "Why no talisman themes" thread. I think that LS will stay in the shadows until it automatically reverts to a stable, useful state when a theme or a mod is bad. That is the one, ever-present problem. There should be some fail-safe functionality in place in case the theme fails. Stardock does good work, and it would no doubt do a great job with LS, but shell replacement is an area that would be pretty unprofitable. I

P.S. it wouldn't be right for WC to do anything with LS. It isn't a startdock product, and it has developers working elsewhere. If WC or SD were to monkey with it, it would furthur divide the situation and make things more confusing. They have no more to do with LS than they have to do with Winamp.

brazil: You are looking at LS as though it were a self-contained app. I have had *themes* crash my system, but never LS. There is practically nothing to LS, and certainly little to do any harm. Themes and mods, though, can be flawed. The fact is, the skills you learn when you install LS by hand are *necessary* to know, and 90% of the trouble comes when someone uses an installer and then has no clue how to find their way back to the original shell without it. IMHO, an installer is not the safest way to get started. As with any installer , it is going to do your work for you, and when you need to un-do it, you won't know how. If you do the installation yourself, though, you'll have a grasp on what you will need to do to revert back. As I have said before, there is no safety-net built into LS, and that is what makes it daunting, and frankly inaccessable to some. LS never crashed my machine, but explorer does quite often. When you login here, you do it with your email address, and I would assume that the cookie that this site sets contains your email address as well. Use a digital watermark: ( http://www.digimarc.com/ ) It can be destroyed fairly easily, but not without purposeful effort. Resizing, etc., won't do it. In the cases where the images are resized or slightly manipulated, your watermark will remain. When someone is uploading the same material at other sites, it can make your claim easily verifiable.

wounds like 16 bit is just easier for your pc to handle. and depends on what you mean by 'video'. every format and every codec has its oddities. your video card, ram, etc would have something to do with it, too.

I've not had a lot of luck with the mouse gestures in Mozilla. Everytime I miss the scroll bar I open another window...
