Interesting. You're right.

WindowBlinds 4 for them is scheduled for "a few months". There's a lot of theme-related technology in XP that isn't there in 98 or 2k, so it has to be engineered.
One thing - if you don't have XP, don't try to get or install WB4. It simply will not work yet (the installer should stop you, but just to make sure . . .)
If you note any problems with included skins, you should probably uninstall, reboot and reinstall. If it all works, fine.
ODNT users should have it on Stardock Central (after a refresh) or the Component Manager. Registered WB users who are entitled to a free upgrade, go to https://www.stardock.com/support/ and enter your registered email address for the link and serial code. If you have been testing the WB4 betas, you really should uninstall first (trust me on this ).
On or after the 1st of Janurary.
No! There is no thing more important than WindowBlinds! How dare you even suggest there could be anything else worth thinking of?! *banishes the unbeliever* Also: people trying to download WB4 on KaZaA deserve what they get. *g*
The CD is probably dated but the serial will remain valid, so you should be able to use the SDC with the CD's ODNT key. If you buy the CD you have to wait for it, though (which is why buying the "Network Edition" is usually a better bet).
Haploid DNA wasn't the reason Creatures Labs failed. Releasing a hugely buggy version of C2 as final was a large measure of it, as was isolating themselves from the community and downplaying AI in favour of cute norn packs. Such a pity. But I suspect someone with more vision will bring us AI once more, even if they aren't called Norns. At least Steve Grand got what he deserved - http://www.cyberlife-research.com/ Incidentally, CL has gone into administration, and they just shut down the
You're welcome. :-) ~SDC~
For those worrying about being eligable for WB 4.x, here's a quote from Kris Kwilas at Stardock: Anyone who has purchased WB 3.x in 2003 gets a free upgrade. Orders prior to January 1, 2003 will need to purchase an upgrade ($10 I expect). Object Desktop subscriptions with current accounts are covered for release versions as always.
Working on it (although not any more tonight - getting kinda late ;-)). I'll have a nice little list at some point.
Just dealt with this on IRC. Rattyboy couldn't update because he didn't see the update button. Because he had to click on it for the button to appear. Once it was done, voila. I know this was reported as a UI problem because I reported it a month ago. It needs to be fixed. Frogboy: You want people to be using SDC rather than that patch, right?
> I wonder why those that only pay for WB, > have to wait for the final release, unlike > the OD people. Just because I don't want > the whole package, mean I can't get the early > versions of WB? I think only those people > who use the free version should have to wait On the other hand, people who's subscriptions ran out yesterday won't get a final version of 4.0, while you will definitely get all versions of it, if you bought it recently or upgrade.
Photoshop does funky stuff that WB doesn't like. Unfortunately this is true of most graphics editors. WB4 does try to alleviate this, but it's still a problem.
It should help. There is in fact an option for hyperthreading enhancements in galciv/data/prefs.ini, but I don't know if enabling it will have any effect.
Jae: You can do that already, have a look at the bonusevents.event file in your Drengin.net\galciv\data directory. You should eventually be able to submit them to http://www.galciv.com/library.asp
The California server is slightly less swamped - you can get it by going to Tools/Settings/Connection/Current Server/US - California
Definitely modifiable, although not *totally* yet - this should improve though. Have a look at the library, there's some mods up right now. Most of the config files are text-based. Haven't played MOO3 so can't comment on that.
Or just burn drengin.net/galciv to CD and copy it there. No registry changes required, I believe.
It will probably run. It may not run great, particularly on larger maps, and the movies may be a bit jaggedy. You would definitely benefit from better equipment, but it shouldn't be impossible to play.
Yeah, it was pulled as soon as the problem was discovered. Latest is 0.99b - http://storage.stardock.com/files/stardockcentral099b.exe
Yes, the situation has been resolved, it was only the inital SDC 0.99 that caused the problem. The latest is at http://storage.stardock.com/files/stardockcentral099b.exe . Stardock's chat is an IRC chat. You can access it at irc.stardock.com, port 6667, via all popular IRC clients.
You must have "Hide protected operating system files" unchecked in folder options to see those files.
If you are not running XP SP1, NTLDR and NDETECT.COM files are on your XP CD, in the I386 directory. Might save having to do a repair - but if in doubt, do one. Also, if you can't find a copy of boot.ini, a sample one that I think should get you up and running follows (however, use one of your own if you can find it) [boot loader] timeout=10 default=C:\WINDOWS [operating systems] C:\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk
