And let's all pretend I said "bonus pack" rather than "beta pack" in the title. ;-)
GreenReaper
Looks like it's up, for beta testers at least. May the Precursors have mercy on Stardock's servers. *downloads before the rush* (Remember, click View/Refresh application data to see it - if it doesn't show up, don't worry, it'll do so tomorrow)
I understand a PDF version of the manual will be available to download.
Any idea why?
Not sure about the first two, but if you want to see a few examples of full games, check these out: http://www.galciv.com/examples/3/ http://www.galciv.com/examples/4/ http://www.galciv.com/examples/5/ Also, have a look at the encyclopaedia: http://www.galciv.com/encyclopedia.asp
You will probably just be able to download the full game. Hopefully it will be smaller than a "complete" download, since it's likely that a lot of the videos etc will be the same, so SDC won't have to update them.
I think the way Brad put it was along the lines of "if we start seeing 5 downloads in a day with the same serial, we'd pull the plug".
Yes, you can alt-tab in full-screen, but it's slow. A windowed mode exe would probably just be a differently-named copy of galciv.exe with a few changes.
No. You can connect via any IRC client. The server is at irc.stardock.com, port 6667.
No, right from the bat, they've got extra things coming out. Wait 6 days, then judge for yourself. I think you'll find it's a very complete game as it is. Stardock already *had* an extra month to develop that they weren't expecting to have. During that time they were able to nail down the stability of the features that were there already and slip in a few more that were not planned for 1.0 - all into the gold shipping version. Yes, they are features that came into development after or
Stardock are in EST.
It might give people ideas. ;-)
It should work fine, but at the moment you do have to turn it on specifically. (Display Properties/Advanced/Skin Console Windows)
I'd be highly surprised if there wasn't. ;-)
Historically upgrading from one version to another has been $10.
Copy protection has never been a total barrier. The idea isn't to make it impossible, though, but to make it harder. Yes, you could copy that 400-page book . . . but it would take $10, and you'd have to spend all that time copying it. The first two months are the most important times for a game's sales. If updates aren't available except to confirmed registered users for that period, then perhaps more people will be encouraged to actually pay for the game. As others have mentioned, I do
Are you using a pop-up stopper? They can cause windows to not open if ctrl is not held down, at least for me (unless a UIS1-type skin is used)
Besides, I can just startup VMWare and get a 98 machine in a window (and/or Linux). Works a treat.
Are you kidding? I would never willingly go back to 98. The crashes! The resource limitations! The general cruftiness! Sure, it could run on far less than XP, but only for a few hours at a time. ;-)
The background of the logon box is usually an image, not a solid colour (if you mean what I think you mean). In User Account, click the Frame Picture option, and select another image (or if you prefer, try deselecting the "Use Picture" checkbox, click OK and then set a BackColour for that area).
No, Chaotic good/evil is viewed as intermediate between neutral and pure good/evil (respectively).
Pursuade them all to buy the game and see for themselves. ;-)
Hehe. I make it my business to do stupid things. Works a treat for bug-finding. ;-)
*waves to the /. people* Yeah, it's really cool. :-)
Gah, let's try that again: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005Y4Q0/
