Just so you know, I haven't had to fight a single AI faction yet in my current game. Been at war, yes, seen their units crawl into my territory looking for a scrap, no. Pariden and Tarth were stomped by Gilden. I've just been doing my Monster Hunter routine and slowly claiming rather distant tracts of land than the AI couldn't make any headway in.

In games with a slow pace, mana reserves can build up to substantial levels. Mana Shield (which allows you to absorb damage with your mana stockpile) therefore becomes an invincibility spell, while Mana Blast (which deals 10% of your mana as damage) is an almost guaranteed 'I win' button. I tried casting Mana Blast at a dragon. It resisted and took 474 damage, and died. [e digicons][/e]

Build more towns and you can support the armies. Guild Warehouse will allow you to crank a lot of gildar per turn. Also, until you get yourself an Alchemy Lab and can cure injuries, you may have to sideline some of your champions for a bit, so make use of those extra champions that have been sitting at the Adventurer's Guild for a while.

When an AI is reduced to no settlements, perhaps by an unlucky start or perhaps due to war, it's possible for the sovereign to survive but have no way to get back in the game because they lack troops and without a city they cannot make new troops. In fact, Resoln in my current game are in this situation and I can't even gift them a pioneer. :P So I was thinking this. Give the sovereign (or a champion) the ability to found one new city if their last city falls.&nbsp

Yeah, tributes can be cancelled at any time, which may actually be necessary of the AI isn't producing enough gildar to supply the tribute. At least you get a fee up front so it's not a complete waste.

So I'm on turn 191 in a game that has Epic pace. In other words, unless something is very very wrong, nobody is very advanced yet. Sure enough though Pardiden, who I met just a few turns ago, decides to declare war despite having a page full of green indicators including 'My military is weak.' Okay so before I go stomp on them I thought I would stop by and say that your AI is getting kind of impudent. ;)

Honestly, I think it depends on whether you need to get it out there to stop the idea buzzing around inside your head. If so, it doesn't matter what we say, you will need to at least bullet point it or you will go nuts. Ideas have a way of either turning into obsessions or just fading away before you put them down in black and white.

As far as the cartographer's table goes, it would be really useful to have the ability to Modifier+click on a tile and see everything that's in that tile, maybe even with an XML code preview in the right pane. When you go adding stuff to the map that's fine and dandy but it would be nice to see what you have actually placed, parameters and all. This has the added bonus of giving the developers some immediate debug feedback to see if the map tool is actually

Yeah that's usually what it is. It's why, when I was writing my mod I made a point of creating a single trunk in the tech tree that includes most of the hull techs. Granted, the AI can still get sidetracked, but in the process of researching bigger and better stuff it will always have to include bigger ships. And since improved research buildings are also in the main trunk, it means that the AI will never be in a position where it lacks the research infrastructure

I like Swarm because it means that yeah, you can send a bunch of rookie spearmen along with your heroes, but they aren't always going to come back. Which is as it should be. It does make combat a bit more brutal but on the other hand if you can pull off your own swarm tactic, it's rewarding.

The shadowing is quite a bit improved over FE in my opinion however, the eyes of units still don't look right when they're facing away from the light. Granted, the issue is kind of exaggerated here with the units set to Gigantic and the camera up close, but it's still visible at Normal size and a moderate zoom.

Derek, There are a number of city enchantments that scale according to the essence present. Basically, I will tend to place cities of a specific type only where I can find a good essence yield, instead of trying some other strategy that doesn't depend on essence. The reason for this is usually down to the selection of city enchantments available. If you added some more city enchantments that do not depend on essence quantity (just on its existence) then it help

First of all, you don't get any sort of notification when the AI enters your territory, despite the fact that there's a notification area that could easily alert you to this fact. Second of all, the AI should have the option to declare war if you refuse to allow passage. So sure, you can tell them to get out, but it could backfire into a hostile confrontation. They can be open about their intentions and say that they're going to attack someone else, in which ca

[quote who="the_Monk" reply="22" id="3333147"] ....so I logged into my city yesterday to find my sewage treatment system overwhelmed. I'm usually pretty good about staying ahead of these things so I'm looking everywhere for culprit until I notice that every few seconds this gigantic blob of poo comes zooming up the regional highway and into my city! I follow the highway right to the second city my buddy had built while I wasn't online.&nbs

I think rather than having Brad spend a lot of time opening the game up for modders, you should look at a mod manager to do pretty much the same thing. So then if you want to change just one number in a file somewhere, you can. Basically, create a mod file format allowing small differences to be merged in as well as entire files. Although that being said, I don't know how that approach will work with Steam unless you kill the auto-updater with fire, a pointy stick, or

Modded TA is much more fun. Of course, it depends on what you find to be fun. I like the tension of the tech race, and the wrestling for military dominance. That's partly the reason I designed the tech trees as I did with my mod, so that if I didn't invest enough in research I would always feel the pressure if another race got to developing weapons before I did. And they do, usually. However to be honest on an Immense map with masses of ship

Sims do not commute enough to find work, even when there are heaps of jobs available in the region. It takes quite a concerted effort and a heap of money to lay the infrastructure to get them out of the city and down the highway to the next city where there are heaps of jobs. Or maybe there isn't the right kind of jobs. It's impossible to tell apart from the RCI gauges.

It's because players expectations have changed. Also, there's something to be said for the free publicity when someone shares a screenie or five of a game, having good graphics there can really get more people to check the game out. Not so much on social media, because there tends to be such a blur of activity there that screenshots can go ignored, but particularly on forums (other than Stardock say). My avatar is a crop of a screenshot from FE. Doe

I don't think that one guy leaving is going to change much. Not if they're giving out a freebie as some kind of peace offering to players. That problems of this magnitude made it into release just illustrates how deep-rooted the culture of break it now, fix it later really is. Don't get me wrong, there are good reason to adopt that strategy pre-release. If you spend too much time polishing the chrome, you have no idea if the final product is going to be a

What Brad's getting at is the uncanny valley. Where things don't quite look real enough to be comfortable to look at. That's why you need shadows. I think the thing to consider here is, do you know where your main lighting is going to be at all times? If so, you can save a bit of CPU time because light is blocked (and therefore generates a shadow) in a predictable fashion, creating a sort of shadow table. It's like how Minecraft saves time by kn

They could start by fixing the derpy motorists in SimCity. Honestly, the number of times I've seen them turn left on a busy road, fire up the side street, and then turn back onto the same busy road to go the same direction they were going before... who wrote this traffic code? It's bad enough that intersections are a total traffic jammer without that going on as well. I think they did that on purpose just to annoy the hell out of me.
