You don't need to know a thing about XML, just remember that all tags need to be closed after they're used. You can pretty much copy and paste what you need. Also, you can contain a hero and their stuff inside one individual file rather than rolling all your heroes into one file. So if you make a boo-boo you're not scrolling through four hundred pages of code to figure out what went wrong. They don't have to be particularly original or have brillian

Bear in mind that you can mod in your own champions and set a fairly high occurrence rate. Time-consuming as it may be, at least then you can fill out their traits and equipment and give them enough of an army at their side that they can't easily be whacked.
Actually, that's not entirely true. I loaded up my beginning-of-game save in cheat mode, revealed the map. Lo and behold, it's a river tile. :P It's Schrödinger's Tile. :P
Okay so I razed the city and looked at the tile it was built on - says Plains (still looks like river). So ulysses_31, you had the right answer. :)
Did you have a high resource yield on that river square? I really don't see the problem really as in Civilization and even MOM one could and should setting on a river square as it produced the most of everything in those games. Why is Stardock trying to muster it out as a settling spot?
According to the city screen the yield was a sweet 3/3/3. I think one problem is that there aren't any graphics for in
This is a modded game so I can't say for sure if it's a bug or just a result of me messing around with resource yields. Either way, it's hilarious. :)
If you increase resource yields slightly then you can nab a good spot with access to a forest, and it may open up more tile choices. Also, in ElementalDefs you can change MinValidTotalTileYield to something lower than 7. Myself, I've gone the other way, increased it to 8 and messed around with the resource yields. Because I love more resources, and so does the AI. ;)
You can put your own designed units in the mod folder and point to those, maybe?
Yeah well the version you have on disc is out of date, and you can't update without using one updater or other, so there you are. In defence of Stardock I think that having an updater, whether it's third-party like Steam, is basically essential if you want to get the most out of their games, because they do a lot of improvement after release.
Well I would say Legend of the Seeker/Sword of Truth except there aren't any magical barriers (yet).
Well actually, when you think about it, why is it that power plants aren't able to extend population caps for non-cybernetic life forms? Think about it. Power of one kind or another can be a basic infrastructure which other infrastructures depend on. In the case of organics, it supplies power to heat and light homes, grow and harvest crops, process foods, and allow services to function. For mineral life forms, it could provide power for mining (I'm assuming h
It's a good idea, modding the XML to add custom difficulty levels that are between the existing ones. It raises all sorts of interesting questions, like can the AI beat you if it has all these cool cheats, an HP bonus for example, but has an economic crunch/slump going on? ;)
I'm still waiting for Windows 9: Resistance Is Futile Edition. ;)
It has been possible to have your original game and expansion keys traded for an Ultimate Edition key. However, as we recently read on the forum, all new GC2 keys (actually any new Stardock game keys) issued will be on Steam. At least, I'm assuming that's the case. Might not be.
Something to bear in mind though is that AIValue is a weight, so for the purposes of research choice it can be affected by factors like the tech category and the demand for advancement in that category. So if an AI has a weak military, then Military techs are considered as if the AIValue is greater than the basic value set in XML. Also, the cost of doing the research affects the tech choice. If a tech would take an extremely long time to research (prehaps because research
If you think it's too cheesy to put it on a ship with a single weapon battery and a pile of defences, just throw it on an unarmed ship, the smaller you can make it, the better. The targeting formula will revert to the normal pattern, but you'll still get the bonus from the module across the fleet. I don't see that there is a huge advantage compared to just outfitting all capital ships with defences. True, the space you use for defences could have been used for
Stars: Will scale to galaxy size, except for Immense. Immense contains the same number of stars on average as a Gigantic galaxy but there's more room. Planets: As far as I know, yes, extreme is a subset of habitable, habitable is a subset of planets. The homeworld systems are not random though, for example you'll never get a PQ 16 extreme environment Moon in orbit around Earth.
On the other hand, some of the changes that go beyond the original game experience also play well with the AI. You lose nothing by trying each one to see which you like most. Well, apart from raceconfig files, but it's relatively easy to back those up.
Well there you go. Why does the customer seem to think that Steam is needed to run the game? Because that's their usual experience with Steam. 'The free Steam client is required to install this game' tends to mislead them into believing the worst, until someone points out that it's not so. Even I assumed that all Steam games are like that.
He's talking about Steam needing to be in memory every time you want to play the game. If you only use Steam for game X and you don't have Steam loaded in startup then effectively you add a whole half a minute to the game's load time. Tell you what, why don't we go back to loading games from cassettes while we're at it. :P
It is my personal perception that the anti-Steam percentage of gamers is loud but very much in the minority. Also, it is shrinking steadily as time passes.
That's basically 'Conform to or go away, we don't want your business.' Sorry, but that's a great way to send customers packing. I was on the fence really until a guy over on GalCiv II forums found that he has to use Steam to downl
Meanwhile, there are still people stuck with GalCiv II on that unholy blight called GameStop. Thanks for that. I feel like such a valued customer, by the way. I don't want to tell you how to run your empire, but that guy is a lost customer, and if you don't rethink this exclusively-Steam policy, a lot more people are probably going to join him. Just because Steam is the platform for all your digital distribution today, doesn't mean that it will meet you
Don't forget this easy fix. :)
What do you suppose the odds are that Tom Francis will get picked to review the first expansion?
If I have a complaint about the diplomacy in FE it's that things got too predictable. When I see that the AI has a larger military force and a dialogue box comes up saying that war has been declared, I want to reply back 'Well this is a cliché.' Otherwise, even if the AI should be my mortal enemy, it makes all sort of offerings during times of peace. Hopefully, the changes to diplomacy will tend to colour your future relations with the blood spilled in the
