It'd be like going from beating crippled children to beating crippled children while running uphil No, but the point is the AI is tuned to do stupid things at lower levels aswell. That's a bitch to do, code the AI and they say "oh no wait, you're meant to be stupid" Civ4, as has been said, you ca

I've seen a fair few 700% manu bonuses, perhaps theres a glitch in the code for libraries that causes them not to appear, like the second Loyalty bonus? EDIT: yeah, it looks like it's there, but I can't read the code in the gc2.xml file. For all I know the code might be saying "Long live mother Russia!" But yeh, the .png and the basic code are intact by the look of it, probably just ultra-rare.

I agree with mishlai. The trolls do get annoying... I know for a fact that the transport issue was an experimental addition to the beta. They decided to get it to analyse the area, and if they couldn't see anyone, would go on through. This fails because you can still see them, especially if you have planets behind the ship, its a deliberate human-style error, which has been repaired to make it work better in the newer beta. I do agree to an extent about poor deployment. I've been in si

Yeah, as morberis said, it carries over. I think my best was EXTREMELY late game (11 years in) I had a lot of techs, and was working with Doom Rays. These were being countered, so I decided to research mass drivers. I got Mass Drivers itself next turn, starting from the thoery

I know it's been mentioned before, but the fact that touching the bonuses loses some built in ones is highly irritating. If I want the Terrans to spend one of their remaining three points on luck for example, I've just lost 3 other abilities without getting the points back. I know how to reset them, but it irritates me I can't customise my races. Is their any way to lock the abilities unless the "clear" button is specifically pressed? EDIT: I

Yeah, you really don't want/need overlapping programs for spyware. 1 antivirus, 1 firewall, 1 spyware searcher, at most. And a lot of the crappy things look at the script and send a message basically saying "It's trying to do something! OMG HAXX0RZZ!!eleven!!" and just give the red flag to a normal everyday piece of code. so don't blame the game when your cluttered system is too busy jumping at phantoms to do anything useful.

It isn't broken just because you don't like it. If you destoryed your factories, it doesn't make jack all difference to social on another planet, because spending is NOT based on anything other than ability to spend. And yes, it does go to military. I can see that because the first turn I get a new tech, the upgrades say "never" for completion as the funds are going to military instead. It then drops to a realistic 3 weeks once funding gets sorted. The

The AI can't see you. Ever sent transports around, to have them lynched? I have (too lazy to guard) Besides, Frogboy reported that if it looks safe, they WILL send unescorted transports, and this is experimental. They AI hasn't been finalised, and lastly it's a beta! It will obviously have problems, a lot of these features havn't undergone testing don't forget.

True, it told you on installation "Don't know what a beta is? don't install this" This is untested code, and if you tell stardock the bugs they can fix them by 1.1 And have you not seen anything about Dark Avatar? the espionage options? releasing spies into opponents planets? campaign as drengin? Stardock themselves are busy working on 1.1, ge

They are warlike. Played my first metaverse game as the Drath on the beta, and I'm used to handing people there dignity (among other things) to them on plates. They... trashed... me.... After years of play, it had settled to a pattern. My tech worlds were lost, I could do nothing. My ships were temporarily the best in the game, but with one plasma tech costing 30 turns it wouldn't last. I surrended in the end, and got a really crap metaverse

Don't go thinking that age defines this (an older Alienware will probably outspec a more modern Dell, for example), but seeing how this was designed to be run on windows '98, this will be more than likely a lack of the proper software, or background programs crapping up stuff.

Well, in my current game as the Drath, I have the smallest military, worst tech, and a poor economy, but two AMAZING production planets, and vastly superior ships. But they are using bigger hulls. As for dreadnaughts, I'll post back once I'm done being kicked into tiny pieces

Ok, technically this should go in the beta thread, but it's more a SmartException problem than anything. I'm in the middle of my first metaverse game, I'm playing the Drath. And the game is crashing. This doesn't really bother me for three reasons a)I'm running msn and other apps that whore my CPU, b)My computer is most certainly NOT a gaming rig, and c) it's a beta. Beta's crash. I know this, and I installed anyway. On an aver

Meh, get a powerful planet that can chuck out constructers every three turns. Now try managing over 50 starbases, and a fleet of nearly 200 ships

7 Replies 6,898 Views

I've noticed none of that, and I play as the Drath on tough. One thing I did notice however, EVERYBODY refused to expand. Every ship in the game was built by me, and sold to other races. The dark Yor alone broke the trend, with 1 defender. And, in the fifth year, I discovered a star system right next to the Torians uncolonised, with 4 planets, one gem (17). I then found another system next to that. I stomped the map in a few hours flat, in the end mere

You MUST have a very strong research and economy base, so you become the top at tech, and get decent cash. Then you build some big ships early on, maybe a couple small fighters with early laser tech for example. Being massively powerful is a great way to make the AI like you

12 Replies 8,731 Views

Yeah, that's the problem. The dev's themselves have been surprised at sales, because noone knows who it is. If I go onto any online game like CoH or WoW and ask "who here has galciv2", I either get blank looks or (very rarely) someone excited saying "Yeah I'll have that tomorrow/few days/couple weeks!" followed by a VERY long absence from the game Mention Oblivion, however, and watch those who

No, there is no tactical combat, and I doubt there will be. There is no point to it, as all ships attack the same way (dice roll), and it wou;d be a pain for the AI

Helping them out doesn't hurt either. If they're at war with someone, declare war on their enemy through the "declare war" option in the diplomacy screen. And if they ask for help, give it.

8 Replies 10,407 Views

It would be nice if you could zoom out in the tech tree screen. you can by clicking the "full screen" option on the research screen. You can't see what it unlocks, but you do see all the techs. As for bigger hulls, go down the path of advanced hulls-medium sized hulls-etc, but t win the game you

Techs are random. When fighting the Drengin, I remember one turn I got phasors, next turn beam weapon theory. Considering I had already tech whored my way to Doom Ray, this wasn't worth much. And techs aren't "used" on any one planet, so that would be impossible
