I have to admit I'm kinda curious as to when the contest shirts will get shipped out. *sheepish look* Peace & Luv, Liz

*feels dumb* I don't see anything that looks remotely like a poll on the left side of this page at all. But anyway, in December of 2005 I was feeling bored, so I went looking through the website Home of the Underdogs for freeware games to download and/or ideas for games to buy. I came across the entry for GalCiv1, thought it looked cool, and followed HOTU's link to download the demo from the GC1 site. After playing the demo for a
Dark-Star: Ah! Yes, I've heard of JSON... it looks interesting. Unfortunately learning JavaScript is still on my "to-do" list. *sheepish look* Thank you for the tip, though! Peace & Luv, Liz
And if you don't beleive that, then read the over 1150 topics in the galcivII bug forum. Over 1150 bug topics in a product that has been out for less than two months. Yes, but you have to factor in that many of those topics are probably: 1. Duplicate topics because of forum glitches. <
Quitch: Would a review help? Link Peace & Luv, Liz
Well, I feel guilty for saying this since I have no doubt your folks spent a fair bit of time working on this forum setup, but I have to agree that while I have no real complaints about the game, the forum is kind of awful to use. It's a bit less that it doesn't work right (although that's an issue) but more what functionality it doesn't have that would be nice. 1. I'm going to echo the thought that proper sub-forums would help a *lot*. I th
I'm afraid I'm not playing the Beta. For one, I have to run the game on my roommate's computer, and don't want to take chances with any potential weird bugs more than necessary. For two, more importantly, I just don't have any major free time right now. When 1.1 Final comes out I'll see what needs to be updated. Peace & Luv, Liz
Dark-Star: Ah, well, you know how it is. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. And then we'd have another mystery and Stardock would be out one employee, which just wouldn't do, I tell you. I can tell you about the left socks, though. It's utterly amazing the weird stuff you can find provided you look through the lost-and-found bins of enoug
*does happy dance* I won a contest! I, like, never win contests! I look forward to my Altarian t-shirt; I shall wear it with geek pride. Silent Archer: Thankee! Knowing that I made people giggle and hopefully spit liquids out of a few mucus membranes warms my heart muscles. I liked Mayito's "Cuban camera" and Lingqi's box snac
*points at her medals* Yes, I am a goody-goody... the sort of annoying person that always gets "Lawful Good" on D&D alignment tests. (Or at least Neutral Good.) In all seriousness, I tend to be a Diplomatic/Cultural and defensive sort of player, an
It's not a cheap shot. If you're going to release a game like this multiplayer should be a part of it. I understand that this could reek havoc on the software architecture... especially if it was designed from the ground up without this in mind, but I really don't think it's a polished final product with out it.
Instant: Ahh. Perhaps it was just the way you worded it... or more possibly it was lack of sleep on my part. The end result of spring cleaning is great, but the process is a bit wearying. Peace & Luv, Liz
Brashin: Why not just download Firefox or Opera? They do everything IE does, only more and better in less resources. Peace & Luv, Liz
Considering the comments I got on my hand-coded data tables, I'd say that if there was some way to add an option to present the ship parts info in tabular format, we'd have one pretty much perfect GalCiv data-viewing program. Peace & Luv, Liz
Campaigner: Just one problem with your idea... I'd be willing to guess that the vast majority of GalCiv players are probably male. (And this particular gal certainly ain't no supermodel. ) And I never knew that any stores prohibited photography... and I've worked
Instant: *goes a bit cross-eyed in utter confusion* Again, uh, why are you addressing this to me? I already said I don't think adding CP had anything to do with the increased Warlords sales, and I never offered an opinion either way on the increased GC2 sales. Are you sure you didn't intend to address Campaigner, perhaps? Peace &
Although I personally don't have any problem with people who want an MP expansion, I would point out that those who do are not entirely unjustified. Stardock is a small company with limited resources, in terms of time and people, and therefore I would guess that resources spent on MP stuff likely means less resources available for new SP stuff. Peace & Luv, Liz
Instant: Erm. If I read your post right, you're preaching to the choir... I was trying to tell Campaigner that I think Mr. Fawkner perhaps made a mistake in attributing his extra sales to adding CP, since GC2 is also getting extra sales (and at launch date, for that matter) *without* adding CP. Peace & Luv, Liz
Campaigner: Not really. Mr. Fawkner seems to be saying that he released his first games with no CP, and when he released the sequels with CP they sold 3-5 times as much. *However*, GalCiv1 was released with no CP (on the game itself, anyway), and GalCiv2, also released with no CP on the game itself, has already sold something like 3 times as much and still going. Obviously there's other factors at work here. I.E. it's apparently *not* the addition of C
I can see it... I just don't have any advice to offer you. The forum software seems to lend itself in that unless a topic catches on as getting a lot of replies, it quickly gets lost. As much as I hate to become another griper, I do find this forum setup kind of miserable. It's just very difficult to keep track of new posts and what I have and haven't read. All the other forums I freque
Teemeister: The small problem with that specific notion is... it's not legal. No company in their right mind is going to purposefully release free fully-functional trial versions to P2P networks. Of course, companies do release non-fully-functional free trial versions... they're called "demos". No, I'm talking the way other rentals are handled now... you plunk down $3 and get to play
Mmm. Caelistis' commentary reminds me that I wish somebody would come up with a feasible way to legally try out the full version of software for a short period of time, the same way you can rent DVDs and console games. That would help ameliorate that reason for piracy. Peace & Luv, Liz
The thing that always gets me about Michigan is all the driving! I have relatives out in various places in MI, and it seems like I spent 3/4 of my vacations visiting them sitting in the car. It took 2-3 hours of driving to get almost everywhere. It was like endless amounts of freeway broken up by the occasional gigantic "holy crap, four floors of stores?!" mall or what have you. Not only that, but when I spent time at my cousins'
Monk: Every race has a tendency towards a given alignment, meaning they start out with a certain "ethics point level" that matches an alignment, so when you research Xeno Ethics it'll likely be a little easier to get that alignment. Zenicetus: The Drath have Good tendencies, actually. Peace & Luv, Liz
I wonder what camp I would fall into? All I'm concerned with is that a game has cause-and-effect rules that I can figure out. And IMHO this game does. For one example, I don't really care about what the exact math is regarding morale. All I know is that population and higher taxes decreases it, morale techs, resources, and buildings increase it, and I can generally find the equilibrium I need on a macro level. For anoth
