i only started using defenses since 1.2, now I'm sold on them. In my last game I was mostly equal tech (I had better diplomacy, governments and influence, nothing combat wise), and my fleets were going almost with out damage. Since I was building them specifically to use weapons they weren't defending against I cut right through them. It took about 7 of thier to get one of mine. I usually don't include defenses until I'm using medium hulls, the smaller ships are just too small and qu

Considering the whole aquatic nature thing, I though flippers maybe. but this works to. Maybe those are just giant boots. If they had flippers, then they would probably need boots of some kind to allow themto stand upright and walk around.

So I as well on my way to an influence victory, when extremely late game we had a precurser event, that raised all planets withen 5 sectors by 15! With almost teh entire tech tree discovered, 55 brand new class 15 planets showed up right smack dab in the middle of the galaxy. Since I couldn't afford to develope all the ones I got (due to industrial sectors, etc being too expensive, and I blitzed out and grabed about 45 -50 of them so I couldn't out right buy them for all of them) I jus

The last two games I've played the Minors have gone berserk, conquring people and being semi-major players in the galaxy. Your idea is interesting though, I'll have to try it out.

Well talk about being a tyrant, massacring your economy so you can win. That's not quite how it happened, I drove my economy into the ground to try and get my people to over throw me. It wasn't until it was long past recovery (with only two planets and no way to build or research anything) that I realized that I could actually pull it off.<br/

Most people believe it's impossible to win in GC2 without a secure economic base. Alot of people would have given up. I was one of them until about three hours ago! The only reason I stayed with it at first was to see if I could get myself overthrown, then I realized I could pull it off so I went for it.

I just had the most bizzare game ever (on challenging). I was an evil race, and I drove my economy into the ground (to a point where it was not able to recover). Yet, by a series of stratigic alliances, a race surrendering to me, declaring wars on people who would later opt for peace, and excessivve tech trading (I led the galaxy in tech despite only researching 29 by myself), I managed a dipomatic win. By end game I was -70,000 bc, with -120 bc a turn (with full taxes and zero spendi

Frogboy talked about this in his post about "mega events", one being that X number of races suddenly band togehter and declare war. He was asking for opinions on the matter, so head on over to it and say something! WWW Link

There have been a few games that startled me, namely Far Cry, Call of Duty, and the Half Life twins. As for actual anxious fear, only one, Delta Force Extreme. That sounds odd, so let me explain. In multiplayer they have helocopters, and on a cetain map I found that I could hide in the grass, wait for a enemy to start winding up thier gunship, then run out (shooting the pilot) and steal the chopper. The fear set in as I lay there, hopeing they don't see me, while kn

I think it would be nice if you could click on a tech that you have already researched and have it bring up the screen that you get when you first discover it. I think the descriptions are great, but I hate how I can't go back and review my favorites (if I want to go back and look at a Phaser one it means a lot of replaying of the game just to see one screen). I don't know if this would be hard to do, but I would sure enjoy it.

I decided I was going to invade the Drath in my last game, and I felt comfortable since I had three allies already (in a universe of 9 players). So I invaded. Then all heck broke loose. I invaded them, so thier ally (Iconions) declared war on me, so my allies declared war on him, so his (the Iconion) allies (the Altarins) declared war on them, so I declared war on Altarians (to honor the alliance)... By the time it was over there were twelve declarations of war on the

That would be pretty cool, because why would a evil empire be a democracy? Maybe they all are evil, and so the elect the most evil of them to be thier leader. Remember, even pirates (for the most part) operated under charters taht allowed some measure of self governce, some even electing their captain. Never the less, an interesting ide

I'm constantly reinstalling my stuff (reformatting) and I was thrilled to death at the way GalCiv2 was handled. Now I have to connect to the internet with the latest patch?! CAN'T I JUST ENTER MY SERIAL NUMBER!? Stardock is pulling a "Steam" on me. You have to be connected to the internet to GET the patch. You can't just click update and hav

Short Answer: No (since if you knew about the long answer you wouldn't be asking, and so it proabably doesn't apply to you). Long Answer: Yes, IF you archived the game before downloading the update (this can be done through Stardock Central). If you did so, you can restore to the archived version.

The thousands of ships thing would be awful for Gal Civ 2. Think about it: GalCiv 1: Everything is predesigned, and displayed in sprites/tiles. Not exactly hardware intnesive, so you can have large amounts with out a whole lot of system taxing. Gal Civ 2: Virtually every ship is a unique to that game, and is a 3d model. This requires much more system resources, even on high end machines (I have a gig of RAM, a AMD 64 chip, and a ATI X800 Pro, and a gigantic galaxy with al

Right. With high soldiering means less troops to take a planet, meaning smaller and cheaper ships. I use strictly tiny-hulled invasion craft. Advanced Troop Mod and some engines. One per planet. If I need more troops, information warfare. It's funny how differant people take drastically differant approaches. I usually build ships t
