I found this interesting Link about the file name, and also looked over your previous debug.err You might try turning off your auto-save feature just to eliminate that as a possible source of the crash. You're welcome. You need to update your nvidia sound driver, then run the game and post the debug.err file if it still crashes. Stardock recommends running their Smart exception program and sending the .zip it creates to their tech support if you choose to go that route. I would wait on contacting tech support until you at least have all of your drivers up to date though. Also, did the Microsoft link give you any help on your BSOD message? Also when did the BSOD occur, at launch or mid-game
If you have updated your drivers and it is still crashing, you need to post your new debug.err in full please. Also, until you get it working, try running your desktop and the game in the same resolution for now. Definitely need to see your new debug file though. EDIT: Just saw your last post. Can you post your debug.err for both resolutions, as in the one that works and the one that crashes? Thanks.
Also, there was a guy having problems because his sound card drivers were old. I have the same realtek sound as you and there is a newer driver for it than the one you are using. Also, I think your metaverse posting failures are a seperate issue from any graphical problems you are having. Could you clarify what exactly are your graphic problems?
Okay, couple suggestions here: 1. You have two sound devices listed, one with 11 mo. old drivers, and other is from 2001. Update the drivers and only run one of them, as they might be conflicting. 2. What is the FULL message on your BSOD ? You can find more info on it here . 3. Try running with your anti-aliasing turned off, and auto-save feature turned off.
Honestly, without posting your debug.err info, there's not much we can do for you except type and jog our memories. Please post it just on the off chance there is something obvious that has been over looked.
The beginning of the debug.err is really important as well. The part with your system, gfx, sound, and the beginning of the Gal Civ 2 info (about a dozen lines or so). Please post those as well.
Well depends on your system, and the minimum specs is just to get the game to run. For extra gfx features to run smoothly, you naturally would need alot better than the bare minimum. Posting your debug.err would help us figure out if there is something you're overlooking. Honestly it is probably the low ram, and/or an old gfx card/drivers.

Also, others were having crashes due to out of date sound drivers and yours is from 2002. Your gfx driver is from 2003 also... You should seriously rule old drivers out, and turn off the AA as mentioned above. If you can't find new gfx drivers you can try Omega Drivers at this Link . EDIT: Also, might set your desktop and game resolutions to the same setting, just to be safe.
I'm not sure if your gfx driver is the latest version or not (probably are), but your sound drivers are 3 years old. ***Plus you are running an old version of the game, please patch it to see if that improves things.*** Maybe the gfx throttling will help you with the latest patch, hard to say though cause of your old version. You can get the latest patch from the download button at the top left here, or by running the Stardock Central application.</
Well for starters, you can turn off your auto save, and just save manually. Someone posted that helped him as his game was doing it during autosaves, and your last debug message is finished autosave... Also, with your gfx card I would try turning off the anti-aliasing as well.
Your drivers are almost guaranteed to be the problem. Try Omega Drivers at this Link . I think there were a few other people with a card like yours (420 or 440) who were helped from these.
Well, you need to find your debug.err and post it. Also, you need to make sure your drivers are up to date for gfx card and sound card. Get that info up and hopefully we can figure out what it is. My money is on old laptop drivers.
Omega Drivers are alternative and unofficial drivers for ATI and nvidia. This Link goes to the page. All you have to do is click on the nvidia tab, then on your OS at the top. I have seen a few people post that the Omega drivers did the trick, so since you are running out of options I thought I would mention them. You can click on the about tab there to read more about them if you want.

Class 0 planets cannot support life. Anything above Class 0 can be colonized, the higher the number the better it is. You need to build/buy a transport ship, physically move it adjacent to an empty/enemy planet, then click on it to invade.
For starters, try increasing your virtual memory (page file). Also you can go to the advanced tab in your system properties and turn off the auto-reboot so you can read the error message. EDIT: Just noticed your resolutions, try running the game in the same resolution as your desktop as well.

Well you can go to the downloads section and try downloading the CE content. It seems some people are getting it even with the regular version. It's possible it is available for anyone to download, but I haven't read that officially anywhere.
You might try the beta drivers for you gfx card (84.xx) if you haven't already. Saw you said tried latest, and you are using the old drivers again, don't know if you meant the new beta drivers. I really doubt using the old ones will help. Have you thought about trying Omega drivers maybe?

Sorry, really tired right now. Um, well it wouldn't hurt to give the beta drivers a try some people have said it helps with their other gfx problems. They're at this Link I'll check this thread again tomorrow, need some sleep.
They are trading technologies with each other. Fortunately, there should be an option in the 1.1 patch to turn off tech trading. Some people really like the feature, and others find it annoying or at worst game-breaking. You can trade techs yourself by clicking on the "speak to" button and then offering to trade techs, sell them, or buy them, etc.
It won't work on your card, and sounds like your hard drive is too small as well. People are having trouble getting even 32 and 64 MB cards to work due to the compatability requirements for DirectX. Unfortunately you need a newer system to play this game. You need newer drivers. Unfortunately laptop drivers don't tend to stay as up to date, but there is an alternative for you. You can use Omega Drivers. Here is a Link to the site. It is not official, but often times one of the only alternatives if your gfx card drivers aren't updated frequently.
