Just stopping by to say I'm out for a while. I've got the tiger by its tail in RL just now (not the other way round, don't worry) and I've got to run with it for as long as it takes. Be back when I can.

Sorry to post this, but I've got to go for a while. I won't make this round or the next for sure. Check back in when I can.
I am announcing the formation of a Administration Support Triumvirate
Well, as long as nobody gets involved with Cleopatra or starts a war with the Parthians we should be all right... I see there has been quite a disturbance in The Force since my last visit. Mumble, I am sorry to see you go. What we will begin to lack in eloquence, we can only hope to make up for with enthusiasm. I am indeed up for playing in the coming round. I haven't even had a chance
We did it guys!!!! We finally got there, we have the 3rd place on the MV and a new medal.
Well, if I'd been paying attention I would have moved my Corinthian character sooner - I was going to wait until we were really close to the HCH and have that character jump ship. Oh, well, late's better than never, and at least he looks the part even if all his games haven't been evil. <
Ok, I updated to .net 3.0 sp1, and it still gave me the same problem - server is unavailable. Here's what I had to do. I uninstalled Impulse. I turned off my anti-virus program (Kaspersky) and my firewall (Comodo). I resintalled Impulse. I started Impulse with firewall and anti-virus still disabled. It appeared to connect, then lost connection immediately after the program loaded. I found the tiny little icon that let me log in again, then I go
I'm getting my ass handed to me on a platter
...he said mulishly. I'm looking forward to jumping in on the next round, this one looks like fun. I was hoping to do so with TA, but cannot get this Impulse... thing... to recognize my login. Or even connect to the stardock server sometimes. Grrr... the one night I had set aside to mess around with GalCivII, and Impulse is handing me my ass...
Have you disabled the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (it's used by Windows Update)? Impulse uses it, so if it isn't enabled it can't do any network stuff.
Nope - that service is running. Is there something temporarily wrong with the impulse server, maybe? I've just been trying this evening.
Well, I downloaded this thing. It won't recognize my stardock.net account - it just tells me my e-mail address isn't recognized and advises me to open a new account. I am using the same stardock.net account info that has worked for years with stardock central. For variety, sometimes it tells me that the server is not responding and that I should check my Internet connection. There is nothing wrong with my connection. I disabled my firewall and my antivirus program, to no avail.
There's also a research cap, though. I don't know what the point number is, but there is a maximum amount of research that you can do in one turn. If this scaled up with the cost increase, it would give players a solid reason to keep building labs, but it does not.
Course work and vacation are going to knock me out of the next round for sure. After that, it depends. I will be on travel most of August, too. I certainly want to keep my hat in the ring, and will probably be able to join in Round 10. Right now, I'm still in the middle of my first TA metaverse game, enjoying the odd moments I get with it with no deadline. I'll be looking forward to jumping back into MVL play soon.
That is fine with me. Reconstitution from the ground up may be the best thing - I mean, look at the Cleveland Browns.
Mkay, nobody's paying attention in either the Core team forums or the new ToE team forums, so I'll resurrect this thread and see what I can stir up. Just pour on some reanimation fluid... massage it down the stiff gullet... it twitches... it stirs... the thread is alive!!! It's ALIVE!!! Starting with Round 9, the Bladerunners are going to need a new captain. I am stepping down from that post and abstaining from Round 9, as well, though I do intend to return to League play in th
A flicker at the edge of consciousness. A bright fragment that sears and instantly fades. Gone. The torpid mind of the hibernator ponders for hours, weeks. Wake, it sighs. After the med units power down, he discovers he has enough muscle tone left to grab a handhold and peel himself off of the grid. The ambient temp is still low, and drying flecks of supermeringue along his back start a serious case of the shivers. He channels the energy into a kick that propels him slowly thro
I used to do this occasionally, then I went and took a promotion, and that's the end of that. I would copy the My Games folder to a jump drive and shuttle it back and forth. One thing I had to watch out for was the differences in screen resolutions between the two machines. I kept two pref.ini files in another folder and switched those out after I copied to each machine. Other than that, I always kept the versions the same, and had no problems.
Well, it almost didn't happen, but here's my pitiful submission for round 8: I don't expect to be around for the bonus round, but I think it's a great idea. I would like to be able to participate again come June, and will watch out for the start of rumblings for a draft. I figure if I can't even log in enough to spot that coming, I have no business being on a team... Silver, FYI - nobody on team B has expr
This is the first time I've looked at the forums in over a week - and I don't think I'll get many more chances this coming month, either. I'm starting to travel more for work, and my evening hours are getting squeezed out of existence. My team is probably wondering what the heck has happened to me - sorry, guys. I'll manage as best as I can for this round, but going forward, I think the Bladerunners need a captain who has more time for the game. I know teams have changed captains in the
There is also the consideration that DA players using altered opponents is unbalancing vis-a-vis DL players' inability to do so - part of what I was alluding to when I said "level playing field" - and the introduction of TA into the mix is bound to bring quirks of its own. For this reason alone, I would be supportive of adding a non-alteration clause to the MVL ground rules.
I think what we have here is a tempest in a teapot. I've been playing the Altarians and other non-evil races as evil for ages, just by creating them first as custom opponents where you can change the alignment, then going back and selecting them as the player race. Everything except changing the super ability and home star can be done in that screen. As for players who do alter those settings outside the game, that really fits into the same category as creating a host of wimpy opponents
My evil Altarian Metaverse character likes this idea. [link="http://altmeta.kryofx.com/"][/link]
Congratulations, man! My youngest (child, not grandchild) turned 1 this past week. Where does the time go? Oh, yeah - into this game...
I have to post my vote here, because in PM I can't write a message in the text window.
If you're using FF, try hitting the tab key a few times. I often find that when I'm using FF (90% of the time) I can't click in the message window, but tab will usually get me there.
The last time I used spore in a large+ galaxy setting, I was playing a good-aligned custom race. (Aliens don't have to base their concepts of good and evil on the sensibilities of Terran western civilization, after all...) I had almost no econ problems because a) I started building transports to ferry population fairly early in the war and b) I only spored key planets (PQ 10+) and left the fully-populated smaller worlds in between to culture flip to me later. This won't work wi
Did somebody spill Worcestershire sauce on the server again?
Not quite up to Motti's level, but close. At least my character is better looking. :)
I have a request for the next commish - this is due partly to the new forum format and the fact that you no longer go to the point in a thread where you left off last. For the screenshots in the OP that show settings for each round, could you just post thumbnails in the thread that link to full-blown versions? I know it's an extra step, but watching this thread load is almost enough to make me seasick as those big graphics make everything jump around. You also can't scroll down to the "
