Just watched the new opening movie. 1. I want that planet shield tech! 2. I hope the Drengin never develop Mega Maid!! ...or at least that the Terran shield code is more complicated than Skroob's luggage combination... Hollywood still puts plenty of money into romance flicks where no one gets hurt, and light comedies where none of the jokes are cutting, and you can't tell me that demon-spawn Barney the Dinosaur hasn't been a good earner True, I did leave sex out of my initial post - that sells DVDs, too, but (at least in mainstream media) mostly in an implied fashion, whereas movie violence knows few bounds. And I classify Barney as toddler-level fare; it does well ov

Plymouth, MI is at 17F. Y'all need to research Terraforming. Virginia's about that bad right now, but we only get about one week of this every year.

Actually, there are hard population limits based on planet quality. The wiki site doesn't get updated very often, so I don't know exactly how accurate its data is, but there is a page about population limits here: Population . Farms will raise your population limits up to the level each planet will support. They will appear to raise your limit further, but once your population hits the planet's maximum, growth will stop.<b

I think the violence in games, movies, and music is so prevalent because of an even more basic human instinct - it sells. Violence-free entertainment doesn't sell. Sure, videos for infants and toddlers have a place in the market, but they're not blockbusters. Movies for even slightly older kids have some violence. Remember Bambi's mom getting blown away by hunters? Would you even pick up the box if the title was "Galactic Sharing and Unity?" Would you go to see "Bambi'

I haven't done any heavy-duty modding, but I think you could create such a device. Of course, you couldn't use it in the Metaverse. I've toyed with an idea that's pretty much the opposite - a Defense Adaptation Module that doubles you armor's effectiveness against weapons it is not designed to protect against. So shields would be 2/3 effective against guns instead of 1/3, etc. I don't think it's possible to mod in something like that, though. <a href="http://altmeta2.thegalacti

I haven't tried using FF with the Metaverse part of the forums in months. I'm sure that whatever difficulties there were have been ironed out. Still, sometimes it's the user's system causing browser problems, and it doesn't hurt to try with another browser. I actually prefer Opera, but it just doesn't work correctly with some sites.

You should just be able to use spaces between words - that has worked for me. What has not worked for me is using Firefox with the Metaverse. If you aren't using IE, go back and try again in IE. That is the only way I have been able to make it work. Good luck!

Verizon teh suxx0rz. I moved my experimental character, One Charlie Echo into the empire this evening. I recently wiped out his crappy scores and finally played the tiny suicidal game that I've been meaning to get back to. Given what we're tyring to do with the Metaverse Council and the AltMeta, I thought this would be a good time to add him in. Plus it's another 17750 points for the Empi

Please feel free to suggest anything that doesn't involve the word "stick". Oh, we want to learn how to defend ourselves against pointed sticks, do we? And now for something more like a real entry. I'd like to reiterate one suggestion (Mumble's,

I'm so proud! *sniff* Thank you, thank you all! I just registered at the Core, as well - it's been through quite an overhaul from the last time I lurked through it. Looking forward to being involved in the struggle to make the Metaverse a better place.

I tried to register at the Core last night, but I never got my activation email. My guess is that @%$#&ing Verizon thought it was spam. Any suggestions?

The political capital is great for your home planet. I usually build two morale improvements and a farm, then replace one of the morale improvements with the political cap - a good influence bonus for a high population planet, and the slight increase in morale bonus is good, too. One thing I still ocasionally see in the DA beta is an AI faction building one of its capitals (usually the econ capital) on a planet deep within my sphere of influence. In such a case, I am almost certain to c

No, I just misread you. The wording "take a census of all metaverse players" made me think you meant actually trying to contact everyone playing in the Metaverse, rather than gathering statistics from the Metaverse data. It might be more accurate to say something like this: “A priority of the council is to study the existing Metaverse data and use the results to determine an elective process that is representative of *all* metaverse players.” I'm not arguing sem

sometimes it could be terreformed to be a pretty good one In Dark Avatar, yes - sometimes they can become fairly desirable. In Dark lords, not so much, but in both games they will culture flip fairly soon, even if the Yor have grabbed them, so it's not that big of a deal.
