I have problems on and off, constantly. I used to be able to access the forums with Firefox, for example, but now every other page just turns up completely blank. Whatever browser I use, the pages are extremely slow to load, and occasionally I get server error messages. Not to mention the problem with new posts taking about a day to show up in the forum, unless you bump it immediately. Grrrrrr....

+ Fixed bug where planets that used terraform improvements did not have the correct planet quality after loading a saved game. The stored improvement value for Planet Quality is saved, all other stored improvement values can be recalculated, but planet quality can’t be recalculated since the terraform improvements do remain after they are built. </T
Yes, I did that before I started playing around with images in the game folder. I was just wondering whether, since there is a mods folder in My Games that works well enough with xml files (like Anomalies.xml), is there a way to work in building icon mods there, too? I think I've tried everything, just trying to see what others have done.
I posted this over four hours ago, and it still doesn't show up in the forum. What is up with that?
I've started to get tired of seeing the same buildings in every game, and have created a couple of new improvement icons I want to use. The problem I'm having is that the only way I can get them to show up in the game is to swap them out for icons in the main game folder. Is there a way to get new icon images to work from the mods directory? I don't want to create any new improvements, just change out the icons for the standard buildings.
I wish they would just start silently deleting his posts. No discussion, just gone, and kill the whole thread if he started it. This would require someone's time to monitor the forum carefully for a while, but eventually he'll give up because he's not getting any feedback for his trouble. My two-year-old yells and throws objects if she's cranky and doesn't think we're paying enough attention. If we just act like it isn't happening, it ends pretty quickly and she's back to normal. I ju
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there now a problem with bonus PQ ratings reverting to normal after loading a saved game?
a hoard of gigantic Doom-Ray equiped killer whales It's not just sharks with frikkin' laser beams anymore!
How do you declare war? With your guns, of course! There's no way to tell another faction beforehand that you're at war with them. The first time you attack one of their spacecraft or invade one of their planets, they will get the message.
It's happening to me, too; my drivers are up-to-date and I was seeing them all yesterday. More likely they're working on the forum code again.
But wait - in naval terms, you steer your ship into a PORT and then tie up at a DOCK. The port is a container for one or more docks. So when you build a starport, what you're actually building is a collection of Stardocks. Right?
You can't turn a squirrel into a gorilla. The mass index just isn't right. You could maybe genetically engineer a five-assed squirrel, but gorillas are right out. What about guerilla squirrels, you ask? They are all too real. They are the reason the winter birds in my neighborhood are emaciated by the time Spring arrives. The reason I originally wanted to post in this thread is to point out that diplomatic... er, mishaps like the one above are not unique to Galactic Civ. (T
It's on one of the first start up screens each game.. No, it isn't. Really. I have 1.11 also, and the option does not appear anywhere. Our goal is to have this out this week in Beta form so people can play it o
@ Iztoc , it was in the gigantic list of fixes being made for 1.1. I don't remember the wording now, but it ws tied in with excess social production no longer being wasted. That is, in addition to social production not being wasted when you're not building anything. I missed plenty of things in that list myself, don't feel badly. @ Jonathan Moriarty , I actually don't micromanage the military production all that heavily. From time to time I will when I've been forced into
I had an AI opponent get the Corvette event pre-1.1, and there was no problem. Well, at least not with the game crashing, but those little bastards were hard to get rid of... My only crash since upgrading to 1.11 has been with a different event - the AI faction leader assassination. As soon as I click Done, the game crashes. I've seen other users' posts about the same thing. I have the feeling that this has more to do with broken event code than with any of our individual machines.
Research does roll over, but as I noted, it goes into the next tech in that line That's right, I forgot about that. Even though I took advantage of it just last night. It seems to only roll over, though, if you have enough left over points to grab the whole tech. If you've just finished researching Banks, for instance, and don't have enough poi
@ TheSchu , The OP's main issue is with the last turn of production used to build an improvement and the last turn of research used to finish a new tech. That last turn often costs far less than the previous turns spent on that object. For instance, an improvement costs 101 bcr and the planet is cranking out 10 bcr of production per turn. During the first ten turns of production, 10 bcr is being spent and the object is that much nearer completion. On the eleventh turn, however,
My real answer is, 'Probably, at some point' Sometimes I feel like really playing around with the ship designer, but sometimes I can't be bothered; especially in the later stages of a large game, it almost becomes like micromanagement. If it were easier to keep designs between games regardless of their names, I would care more about my designs. As it is, I usually delete everything in the ships folders between games. Plus, as it is, the scrolling list of Extras in the ship designer is
I also hate to see the time & credits going to waste. I wish it weren't that way. However, knowing a little bit about how the U.S. Federal Government operates in the real world; about how its various departments bicker and withold information from each other; and about how contracts are awarded, enforced, managed, and rewarded... I have to say that I find this aspect of the game very realistic. The GCII system, imo, is actually much more efficient than what we have now.
I guess I'm one of the unaware; in fact, I was expecting something more like this: I hope you won't take offense - I'm not poking fun at you or your story. It's just that the image sprang fully-formed into my head when I read the headline, and I had to go out and create it. And now I have a new series of books
OMG, I found the entry on Ebay. This is the disclaimer at the bottom of the ad: This is import edition PC video game, it plays in English, but there is some foreign writing on the game case. Manual is not in English and therefore not included. This is used game, may not work on Internet. 100% Original, factory made game, not pirated.
it gives me time to make lunch while I'm waiting for that photon torp to wander towards its target. Heh. Yeah, it reminds me of the bit in Austin Powers where Austin starts the steamroller moving, and about a hundred yards in front of him, one of the Evil security guards starts shouting "Noooo!" Then it cuts to something else, then back to the
That is true! Unfortunately, in my later-game wars, I tend to have a choice between the cheap ship and the really, really, really expensive ship. Even my constructors have gotten fairly expensive by then, but I build a few of them instead if I'm about to 'liberate' a galactic resource or two.
I used them in very early game as a mil stat boosters. 1 cheap weapon, nothing else. That's what I use them for in every game. As soon as I've researched Space Weapons, I either use the Star Fury or makye my own and have every planet start building one as soon as its starport comes online. Also a good first thing to build on a newly conquered
My personal favorite is the fact that only the beam weapons actually appear to hit enemy vessels. Missiles usually at least get close (close doesn't cut it vs. even thin armor, but I'm willing to suspend disbelief), but the projectiles from the mass driver-type weapons, especially the later models, just seem to kind of tumble out of the barrel and wobble around the screen until SHAZAM! an enemy ship that was on the other side of the viewscreen takes a hit.
