re "noise" - sorry that is a slang term, not proper english - broadly it refers to making lots of extreme comment on an issue usually (not always) one sided comment and unbalanced. Thanks for having a look, interesting, puts into perspective the more extreme claims over controlled Net Access in China made by those of more extreme views. Regards Zy
After that I would like for you to ponder whether ignorance or apathy is most dangerous to America right now
I vote for pomposity, its even more lethal - but then, thats none of my business, I live in UK Regards Zy

mightygoobi What access do you get to news Sites like [link="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/"]MSNBC[/link]. There is lots of noise over here re access to "open" International News and Current Affairs Sites from within China. I am just genuinely curious what the reality is, in terms of learning about life in other countries (keeping away from the political angles) and their histories in a factual non political sense.
So he has the right to critizise
Absolutely, no problem with that.
And to remark as well - he is not only critizising America if you didnt notice. He does critizise german politics as well, so its just fair.
Yes he was very even handed, due credit to him. It just wasnt comedy .... sorry .... maybe its a Cultural thing that came out badly on the sub titles ... dont know. I dont give a rats about the politics, thats a contrived issue frank
I have 93% popularity last I checked.
Then raise your taxes because you are throwing money on the fire. There are two waypoints in the approval part of the game - ignoring for now the penalties of the lower scales of approval - 75% (which gives a 25% population growth bonus) and 100% which gives double population growth). There is not a sliding scale between the two, its one or the other. Its usually only relevant in the early game, as 100% approval rapidly bec

There's a shock. Talk about an exercise in pointless rhetoric. GPU manufacturer rubbishes CPU manufacturer. CPU manufacturer rubbishes GPU manufacturer. Ego is the scurge of this Planet .... Regards Zy
I wasn't doing too bad, it was just my economy crash that screwed me, and that was because I was hosting at least 25bn people on every planet. Cut that down by 10bn and everyone was happy. Does seem very weird to me though, maybe I'm missing something, but what's the point in all the population growth and boosting technology when you hit the wall so early down the tech tree?
Thats the wall we all hit at first. There is a logic to it though. Any game has to have
Wow you make it sound like we all got together and decided that the gold standard couldn't cut it.
Thats pretty much what happened. The gold standard was dropped by the major trading nations in and around the time of the First World War due to the high War spending. There was a resurgence of it in the twenties as a result of the Weimar Republic debacle, however within the first three years of the thirties it was once again killed off by most countries principly as a res

You have to be good to use sarcasm as the basis of comedy. He just reels off sarcastic remarks one after the other like some boring New Age idiot. They are not even original, and mostly targeted at popularist controversy where he is guaranteed to get smug chuckles. I found it very precious and self important, and at the standard of junior high school debates. Sorry, he didnt cut it for me, just one cheap shot after the other. Regards Zy
Hehe, the more threads I read here, the more I realise what a total balls-up I made of pretty much everything I did!
Didnt we all when we first started  There's a few who click straight away, but the other 99% of us mere mortals had the screaming whatsits over the economy until the principles sank in.... Just lookout for "Newbie" in thread titles, or "Morale" or "economy" or "population" etc, there are zillions of threads on on the economy and how to play it.<br/

I hear what your saying no problem, by the same token so does Platinum, copper, iron tin etc etc. The value of gold is driven by sentiment because of its status in peoples minds, not by its use. Platinum however is driven by its use - currently at just over $2000 an ounce, over double that of gold. The problem with the gold standard and why it was dropped a long long time ago as the primary currency stabiliser is it produces inflated values, and does not reflect the true state of an

Good old GATA, they surface in troubled times, then fade again, bit like the weather. A large part of the rhetoric also flows from whether the individuals are short or long on gold futures. I always find it "interesting" that they surface when economic troubles are raging, and sentiment causes a "flight to gold". The gold standard as an absolute measure of a currency's intrinsic worth was dumped long ago, by all governments on the Planet for the simple reason its a false standard, the
I wonder - how many English words I need to know to read a newspaper?
Good question, I've never really thought of it in those terms - I have no idea  no doubt there is some esoteric calculation along those lines somewhere, but its purely theoretical as the English language is not constructed from pictures, purely single letters. Although they have changed a lot over time - see the [link="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_alphabet"]Wiki on the English Alphabet
