Speed Kills. You want to try and be the attacker as you get first shot - which in a lot of cases means the difference btween victory and defeat.

I see the max resolution your Sony monitor supports is being reported as 1024x768. Is this right? Sounds low. Have you tried to run it in windowed mode rather than full screen? Have you tried setting the dual CPU affinity to 1? Check out this thread for more on dula CPU pc's. https://forums.galciv2.com/?ForumID=274&AID=102033#864517 Good Luck!
The aI's (all 9 of them) are much improved in the Beta 1.1 4 builds. 1.1 is scheduled to be released next week if it passes Q&A. Check out the Journals here on the site - Draginol (aka Frogboy aka Brad Wardell) has some great posts on the new aI behavior.
I don't find medium hulls useless. When I first get them, they may not be much more powerful than small hulls if I have not researched advanced techs that give smaller components, or miniaturization. But as the game progresses they get more and more powerful as they are able to hold more things. Their survivability is greater than small hulls, especially if they get experience and increase their hitpoints. They are cheaper
I see minors in 4b. Frequency is random. Sometimes you get a lot, sometimes only 1 or 2. Check your debug.err log - at times the minors may be there, but you never know it as they never make contact with you if they are in a part of the map that you have not explored and one of the aI destroys them. My current game the Jessians are somewhere out there - I can bribe the aI to go to war with them, but I have not met them yet, so I can't see them in the trade/diplomacy scr
You use the middle button/wheel to do this. Push down on the wheel if you don't have a middle button - it works the same. You should be able to customize the mouse in the Windows Control Panel if your mouse software lets you re-assign buttons to use the right button, or emulate it if you only have a two-button mouse.
What's the exact error? I see one problem in the log already - you are using Regional Portugese. Change OS regional settings to english AND use numeric format 1,000.00. See if this helps your issue, whatever it is.
There is/was a Strategies forum - (and many others too) it is listed in the pull down box below the main GalCiv2 forum post list. However last week something broke - and it just takes you to a blank page now. Hopefullly they will get it back. It had some giood stuff in it.
I too thought it goes both ways in 1.1 If you look at the Civ Management screen, you see two arrows pointing both ways above the Military and Social columns. And you can see a change in production times for ships depending on whether or not you are also building something on the planet.
Hmmm...if I could win at Suicidal I'd darn sure post it to the metaverse. I could consistently beat the aI on tough. So I have gone to Painful. With the new aI routines in 1.14B, I am having a heck of a time holding my own now. I am pretty much stalemated at this point in my first game at Painful...apt description btw. (I decided I was ready to submit a game to the metaverse, and this is it...oh well, it's a tossup whether
Thanks Rogue and Arstal, and everyone else for the explanation. Missed that in the patch logs. That's why I did not say bug in my post title...if that's how it works, that's ok by me. Just surprised me. Editing my OP to remove the debug stuff.
Bump to appear.
That's when you need a Galactic Express card...the card that is accepted anywhere. Bribe them for peace - then watch as they eventually attack each other.... I've seen that once with one race - That's what I did - but it must be amazing to see with two at the same time...do you have a screenie you can post?
You are running the original release version - it had several crash bugs. You need to update it to the 1.0x version which is very stable. Also, you need to have at least a 1GB page file. Yours is way too small. And, the game requires 256 MB memory - you only have 190 MB.
Hi. Beta4B. Not sure how to reproduce, as it depends on combat odds for invasion. I invaded the Alterian Home world, Alteria, with 500 Drengin troops. (Gas Attack). They had 2000 defenders. My advantage was 4:1. I had 45 soldiering ability and they had 15. i rolled a 20 to 4 on the 'dice'. Both sides went to 0 - and I was told that my recently conquered planets was suffering an 11% reduction to PQ due to the gas. When I clicked Done, I was returned to the map .
@Sam0t The Turn button. Once you hit it all of your ships will execute automoves. It's the last phase of your turn. Or do you mean a button to make all current automoves during the beginning or middle part of your turn, instead of at the end? Not one that I know about, but there may be a hotkey...never looked as I don't have the need to do that.
@ Colonel Page File: 84MB used, 533MB available It's the page file. Game needs at least 1GB page file to run. You need to increase it, and make 1GB the minimum size. @OP Same thing perhaps - your page file is not starting out big enough - try increasing it's size to 1GB minimum
Re Ship pack: I'd buy it. That is one of my favorite parts of the game. $9 is less than the cost of a movie, well worth the time I would spend with it. I don't want to wait for it to be included in an expansion, which may not be out for 6months to a year if it is ready and your artists have some free time now.... Re Beta Testing and forums: I agree, the solution would be to take the Bug reports off the Everything forum. In fact, I'
@Three60 I only see the Journal for 4A .17 .... I downloaded that last night....now 4A .18 is available, and I don't see a new Journal entry log for it yet...unless my browser is acting up again (vey possible). Oh well, just updated it...I'll see soon as I finish up work.
Yeah - I just opened up SDC and Beta .18 was availabe for download...off to check the Journals section...
Not all of us can play ironman style. I have been trying to finish my first metaverse game for a week or so now - unfortunately work, sleep, and the need to visit my better half for at least a few minutes each night keep getting in the way.
This is a known bug - Frogboy says it will be fixed in the release version in this related thread: https://forums.galciv2.com/?ForumID=274&AID=113888#874448
Debug Message: Another instance of GC2 attempted to load. Have not seen this one before - did you 'double' double click by mistake and try to start two instances of the progeam at once? Check Task Manager to see if two instances of the app are running.
I have gotten a similiar message once from a minor race - I think it means they are available for sale in the normal Trade window. The notice is kinda like an advertisement, letting you know they have them.
You said you are running on an external hard drive - the game requires two file paths - one for the main game files, the other to your \My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2 path. Looks like that second path is not there. The prefs.ini file is located there - the game will not run without it.
