Apparently they create video codecs. http://www.ligos.com/ Apparently one of these is "indeo", used in the Thief series engine. But that was a short google search, so I may be wrong. No disrespect, but of course. But they want to charge me $30 to get this codec to run Thief, which I've run on this computer before without it. And the program won't run without it at this point.

I thought I would start playing Thief 1 again, as I never finished it. I got too scared at the Return to the Cathedral!!! Anyway, I had played it on the computer before that I'm trying to play it on now, but now it says that I have to subscribe to a corporation called Ligos. What the H*** is this about?!!! I've done nothing to upgrade this computer but what Microsoft sends in now and then. So does Microsoft have some sort of deal with this corporation? Has anyone heard of
I know I saw a 10 game one, I will try and see if I can find the palyer with one and get back to you Don't bother. You won't find the palyer with one. Whatever that is, you won't find it.
Well it pretty much ended the game for me because I was terran rank 1 at the time and the arceans (rank 9) found the precursor device and there were high class planets in a 2-sector radius around their discovery. Unfortunately, they were next to the altarians (rank 2) that I was at war with. I'm sure you can guess who ended up with all those juicy high class planets Hey, I get tired of hearing people say that these things are an end to their games.
It's not so difficult to understand. The AI colonizes a planet, buys a starport on that plant on the same turn, then buys a colony ship on that planet on the same turn. Then you think it has the same colony ship it used to colonize that planet. But it's a new one. Go figure!
Influence is almost irrelevant unless you're going for that victory. If you have a planet about to flip, the best solution is to increase population ASAP. Build a ferry (colony or troop transport) and take people from a highly populated planet to the one that's in trouble. I've NEVER had a planet flip, and I've only had the chance of it show up a few times. Influence starbases aren't necessary unless you're trying to take planets without declaring war (a good strategy sometim
How do you know your system has "plenty" of speed and graphics capability? I play on a pretty low-end laptop, and the game works quite well. Maybe you should post a debug file. If you don't know what that is, then do a search on this forum and you'll easily find out how to post one here. Then people will be able to give you informed advice. Good luck, and don't give up on this game yet. It's the best game of its type, IMHO.
Wow, thanks for the clarification. I find the Econ Capital to be quite important in the early/mid game, when you don't yet have anything approaching the power of Stock Markets. Plus, it doesn't take long to build and only takes 1 tile.
Here's the prompt reply I received from support: "Thank you for the information, I have forwarded this up to the Development staff and hopefully they can consider this issue for a bug fix in the future." So, I guess we can lay off with the whining for awhile!
Anyone have a savegame with this problem?
Ok, so should we al report it to the bug address and spam them? SHould one of us do it? Let's talk strategy. I think one of us needs to email them. I would do it, but I don't have a current saved game where it's happening right now. If someone has one, please send it to the bug reports email address. I just saw a statement by Frogboy that we should definitely email about a bug, because they often
Besides, everyone gets it!!! Just build Galactic Privateer, then go to war with anyone. You've got it!
In some other thread (I don't have time to look it up now) Frogboy made a comment about this bug and said it's not an "AI" bug per se but a "target selection" bug or something along those lines. In any case, he did seem momentarily aware of the problem. I don't know if that means they're going to resolve it any time soon. Has anyone reported the bug to the official bug-report e-mail address? Goo
Probably the reason the AI fails to build GP in my games is that I build it first. I think of it as a priority because I think of trade as a priority, because I think of diplo as a priority, because I don't want to be a straight military power. Isn't that what this was designed for? It's funny that I actually got it as the Korath at one point. I used diplo and trade to put everyone else at rest until I was ready to spore their ARSES to HEELLL. So it's a powerful tool, if use
I've spent the time to read through this post. I play DA quite frequently, so I'm no newb. But I think that 99% of what I've read is completely horrible!!!! To the devs: Please read the major threads in this forum to find what people actually want done. Random ideas are interesting (I will grant that), but if the game were to tilt towards most of these directions, it would be a detriment. No disrespect meant to anyone, but the people who play the game the
So I bet it is on their list. OK. I'm just annoyed that it's been so long and we still have to say it must be on their list. It's a major part of one of the race's Super Abilities (Korx). It slows down the game immensely when it's not working right. But it's a great idea. If it's really hard to program, then I understand the problem. But if it's not, then it's just a matter of not enough people speaking up. I'm sure the Korx are one o
If you are of a mind to always think of your position as "weak," then you might want to try to play with Drath (DA) with their Super Manipulator. On a medium map, quite a few habitable planets, I was Drath. I had my homeworld, the 4-quality "Mars," a PQ3, and a radioactive PQ2 (with only the starting colonizing tech), and both of those were far from my home system. So, I was way behind in the early game, and even farther in mid-game. But I kept the others at war with each other, deve
There is some good advice in this thread. One thing I do to get my economy going ASAP is to keep taxes DOWN so I get morale at 100%, thus pop growth at the double-bonus. Then, use an extra colony ship or two to ferry people from your homeworld (with the highest pop) to newer colonies that are trying to get going. The difference between trying to build pop up from 500 million or from 1 billion (or from 2 billion), is huge. Things just start to happen much more quickly that way. <b
in my last game, I was in my first (and only) war with the Arceans, had completely wiped their military out and they refused peace because of my repeated reneging on peace treaties??? Strange, because I hadn't actually ever made peace with anyone in the galaxy - every war was fought to the death. Some flag got set there in error. A computer error, or the Arceans (and you) were victims of propaganda. Didn't a "coalition of the willing" (Altarians, a
As I understand it, MP's go towards whatever ship the planet is building. If it's not building one, they are wasted. TP's go to tech research. If you set research to 0, then they're wasted. Only SP's convert, and that to MP's if you aren't building any social improvements. If I'm wrong, I hope someone will correct me.
It may be a matter of how the AI is programmed... It probably has some kind of routine that prioritizes targets based on the current situation rather than having scripted target lists. Such a system could be harder to update. This could explain why the AI tends to ignore asteroid mining bases... Maybe. Stardock? As a result of my utter ignorance of programming, I would think it wouldn't be too hard to set t
At the end of the PD line you get a certain building with 20% improvement to overall research. Wow, I've never noticed this! Anyone know what building?
Who is the evil SOB who came up with this The same morons that invent patheticly rediculous speed limits on our roads in real life?? Uh, speed limits help to save gas, which, if you haven't heard, is rather a serious issue at present. In fact, they're too high in many places (I'm talking about the US here).
This has been noted many times, once in fact in a post I started. It's odd that they don't do something about this. I find that it makes the privateer practically off limits to the player, and the AI doesn't build it, so they might as well fix it or nix it. It also makes the Korx much less inviting as a race for a player to play. Those at Stardock: Is this on any fix list? It would be one of my first choices as things for the "next update". I love the privateer, if it works right.
BTW, does GC generally behave itself if you keep playing an older saved game after a new patch? Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Better to finish a game before updating.
