In DA I've seen some AI (it might have been Drath because they were in that game) building 4-5 farms on planets where that would take up half their tiles. And they didn't have particularly high pops on those planets, either. Whatever the reasoning behind it, bad strategy.

Pipeter, search these forums for advice to new players, or general strategies. It might seem daunting at first, but you'll be able to be doing consistently well with a little practice. The first few months of the game are extremely important, so having a decent strategy for those turns can make all the difference. I'd give you a detailed strategy, but others have done it on these forums in ways that are better than I could, so I'll leave it to your search abilities.

Well, on a low difficulty setting the AI won't be able to colonize nearly as quickly as on higher settings. So that's probably one of the reasons you're seeing so much real estate for the taking. I'd say that if you set habitable planets to "abundant," you should expect to find an abundant amount of planets, no? But I'd guess that you'll usually not find such a ratio of good quality planets. Is this DL, or the expansion?

Ah, so that's why that Dread Lords ship with 1hp kept wiping out my fleets. I was just about to post on this as if it were an error in the DA campaign. I'm not sure what to think about that rule. It's certainly counterintuitive, if you're considering hit points as raw numbers. My strategy was to run a few seriously underpowered fleets into one DL ship on the same turn to take it out. It didn't work.

Has anyone else had the AI try to attack your freighters when you have Galactic Privateer? The ships/fleets just sit as close to the freighters as they can and try to attack and "pursue" it, but of course they can't destroy it. It becomes a bit cheesy for the human because quite a few ships/fleets will spend a long time on this, and you can just pick them off at will or even just ignore them. I didn't expect DA to still have this problem. Why's it so difficult to fix? I hope, for th

Dude it's called econamy, make a trader that goes really fast. My top design is the Mercury that goes at 30 par/secs a turn and easy builds a strong econamy to support research and support a strong military. 1. Speed of trader is irrelevent to how much the trade route makes. 2. You're not building a 30-speed trader in DA, and certainly not early in the game. But I do think trade is vital both for giving a huge boost to your ec

THAT is what spies can do. Totally amazed by the story. And I totally agree with your assessment based upon my experience so far. And I'm happy to say that the AI isn't so bad at using spies itself. Of course, as in every other case, an intelligent person who uses them wisely will always outdo the AI.

*I* made the change so that the early level weapons are intentionally "lamer". In the beta, the early weapons were cool when they are supposed to be kind of weak. The latter weapons get increasingly cooler. I've been playing the DA campaign, and I can absolutely understand the frustration. But that just makes getting to the next level that much more satisfying. <

This processor problem is pretty rare. But I'm upset about it because I'm going for the race medal, else I would never have played as Arceans.

I've had this on occasion, it seems the game gets hung up between turns. Some of the things that have brought it out have been, alt/tab out and back, save then reloading, just letting it sit. These only work part of the time though. If it's really hung up, loading an earlier save definately should fix it. Yeah, so this is clearly a bug, righ

I've also had a problem with this aspect of the espionage system. As far as I'm concerned, if I can see what's on a planet, that's even more important to me than sabotaging any one tile.

BJ, I don't want to believe that people really care about that. But I'm afraid that they probably do. Your posts should stand on their own, and I've seen that your contributions are quite good. Trust me that most people, and the people who matter, don't care about your metaverse icons. There are people who make excellent posts and replies who have odd metaverse icons. Anyone with a brain will figure out that it's a fluke!

I'm playing 1.4x DL. Here's the Debug. The TURN button totally disappeared, and even stayed gone when I reloaded. But when I went to exit the game, the button looked like it was back. I haven't reloaded after I closed the game, so I'm not sure if that would work. However, no matter what, this must be a bug. Can you build a freighter on another world, then land it on the planet you want to start the route from, then re-launch it from there to start the route(like you can do with troop transports)? No, I'm pretty sure you can't in DL. I tried it many a moon ago. Not sure about DA, but I'd assume it's also a No.

Without being able to see the situation, I'd say that Yes you should have attacked the most vulnerable of your enemies ASAP. You've set up a situation where waiting around to take the full brunt of their attacks is a decided disadvantage to you. It would be interesting to see if you could have won if you had started aggression before they had built up enough. As it is, it sounds like you'll be lucky to survive much longer.

I've played Rome: Total War, and it quickly made me sick of tactical combat. I actually enjoy the fact that GalCiv 2 has no tactical combat. I would even go so far as to consider that a feature. A game you can play without having to worry about tactical combat. GalCiv 2 is a nice shelter against it. Absolutely right. Besides, were there a f

Mumble, I'm completely behind that, and I'm sure that most would be as well. This community seems quite reasonable to me, and your idea makes the most reasonable suggestion that the rankings should be shown in a fair way. And also in a way that allows people to look more deeply if they wish. I feel that this would be especially useful to motivate people of all types of strategies to post to the metaverse. Isn't that what we're looking for?

Jub, why do you think you should know when AIs trade with each other? Maybe if your espionage is high enough, then I would support what you're saying. But without the requisite espionage level, you shouldn't know.
