I find its more economical and powerful to simply go and mass produce Small hull ships. That's rather the point. Stardock didn't want the bigger hulls to necessarily equal 'better'. In general, a fleet of Huge ships should beat a fleet of tiny ships with the same logistics limit, technology and so on, but it shouldn't be a forgone conclusion.

I reckon there should be a small morale bonus on the later farms, to make them worth using. Not enough to make up for the morale you'd loose by having the extra population (so you'd still need morale buildings), but just enough to tempt me into actually researching the techs. I hate 'useless' improvements. This would also have the effect of increasing pop-growth on that planet of course.

Evil Korx and Drengins were attacking Torians and me, until Torians suddenly surrendered to . . . the Korx! What? It's perfectly normal to surrender to the race that is attacking you (e.g. WWII, Germany vs. France and GB). If the Korx weren't at war with them, THEN that would be wierd.

It is not a bug. All capitols, achievements, trade goods, and wonders cannot be demolished. It pays to spend on espionage so you can check out what is on a planet before you invade, so you don't end up getting a poorly located one before you've built your own. It takes away from the immersion of the game to have somebody AVOIDING taking a planet

You're more likely to find ships with the lucky trait, but you still can without it. You're more likely to get one if your military is weaker than your opponent's. AFAIK you do have to pay maintenance. It shouldn't be too hard to make the Ranger more useful- just edit its weaponry in the XML file.

Even better, you can click on the 'Unowned' tab, then if you sort by class, all the juiciest uncolonised planets will float to the top.

Another demonstration of the patheticness of core ships. Rangers are useful sometimes, clearly you're too far into the game for them to be of any use in your particular instance, but I've had one before that saved my hide earlier in the game. Just sell it, or as Skyjack says use it as a transport blocker. Or wait till you research Huge hulls and upgrade it or whatever.

Well, for a start the military rating is generally the most important rating in my experience. It may be the fact that you've had a premature ending (Demo time out rather than a proper victory), which may count as a loss, thus decreasing your score. Try playing a game with very fast tech, and only one opens. Then rush to Planetary Invasion and conquer them to get a swift military victory. See how the scores stack up then.

Spore is one big editor. I think it's unfair to write it off as a game before you've even tried it though. Games that let you excercise your creativity can give an awfully long periods of gameplay. Just look at what some people can come up with in the relatively unimpressive ship editor in GCII.

It has, I was rather suprised to see it crop up again actually. Don't I recognise that thread title..? Hey, wait a minute! I think I must have still been playing 1.1.

I agree. I rarely need range modules for my ships at all past the early stages. I tried to mod it, but I couldn't find a way to change the base range of a hull, only the effectiveness of the range modules.

Er... Thanks? Or perhaps not. They aren't THAT ugly are they? Apart from the constructor, which is meant to be. I hate to think how my computer would run with those thousand-pieces-of-jewelry monsters that some people come out with. Besides, I like to spend more time playing the game rather than messing around with hard points.

Cannon fodder mostly in my experience. And hogging resources. They're good for making money as well (sell them techs). Occasionally I 'adopt' a minor race just for the hell of it. They add a bit of flavour to the game.

To ally you need: - The Alliance Tech (No, your potential ally DOESN'T need it) - A certain level of relations (This used to be Close, but you can sometimes get it at lower relations now) Then the Alliance option appears in the same place you'd find the Peace Treaty or whatever.

Those + or - signs in the race relations screen indicate how your relationship is changing over time. Having a larger military, trade routes, the same ethics etc. increases relations.

If you were on a higher difficulty, you wouldn't have grabbed all of those colonies in your opponent's territory, so the planet tax wouldn't hurt you. As for the starbases, that applies to everyone so nobody gets an advantage/disadvantage really (though the AI aren't great at maxing out starbases). The point of the UP is to force you into using different strategies. You have to adapt to the new rules, and make them work for you.
