Usually happens when I'm trying to research most of the tech tree I'm guessing it's a 'tech victory' then... If you research the technology 'Technological Victory' you will get a... Technological Victory.

The AI has not cheated. It is likely that the AI they surrendered to has: - A good/matching alignment - Good relations with the surrendering races - Possibly some wonders

You have to sign up because they have to check that you have actually bought the game. It's the payoff for having no CD requirement or other copy protection. It takes about a couple of minutes at most.

But surely you always want to be snapped to a new planet, so as to set up your initial colony anyway? The rename dialogue also acts as notification that you have started a new colony.

As if Gal Civ cares about real time... It would be an interesting extra event, although it would have to be carefully controlled to make sure it didn't completely mess you up. On smaller galaxies, loosing an entire star system would probably be fatal until the very late game.

There isn't much point putting defenses on your ships against the Dread Lords until you can fit an absolute ton of them. You're better off trying to load up with weapons and kill them before they get a shot off.

It's a bit of bad luck, but it isn't cheating. It is entirely random (though I suspect that effects like this depend a lot on your relative strengths in the game). I was loosing miserably in my first game on tough. The Arceans were dominating the galaxy, and controlled over half the map. Just me and a couple of other civs dying off fast stood against them. My fleet was all dead, and the Arcean transports were closing on my homeworld. Then, I uncover a Precursor Ranger. It destroys the

Although I would prefer controlling my colonisers manually, I'd like a similar system for constructors. You can use rally points of course, but I'd like an option to give my constructors an order 'upgrade nearest starbase with modules available'. Not only would this save time directing constructors to where I want them, but it would also mean that I can make sure that all my starbases are fully upgraded (I always forget one!)

What are the drawbacks to go into deficit spending (below 0 bc)? I think you're confusing deficit spending with a negative bank balance. Negative bank balance means a morale penalty (I think?), plus you cannot rush buy/upgrade/pay money in Diplomacy. I'm not sure if there is any interest? If your money gets too low, production will stop entirel

Are you finishing off an old game? The new save system will only work for new games I think.

While we're on the subject of colours... I can never tell the difference between Iconians and the Korx. If they start off next to each other, I find I have to eliminate one early on to save on my confusion!

I tried to submit my first Metaverse game yesterday, but when I finished, I had error message 11, something about serial numbers not matching or something. I patched my game to 1.0X with SDC, and didn't have any problems then. However I ran into problems with SDC and my antivirus, so I uninstalled SDC and patched to 1.1 with a manual download, with no further problems. I haven't had any problems with serial numbers up to this point. I haven't patched to 1.11 yet, because I was waiting

Oh wow, carriers. Nobody has ever suggested THAT before Tell, me, have you ever played Master of Orion by any chance? It seems to me that I now know more facts about how that game works than GCII itself, even though I've never played MOO.

What I really don't understand about people complaining about a race surrendering to you is... if you really don't want the planets, why not just sell them? Spread the planets amoung the other races so that no single one gets a massive advantage. Mix star systems between civs (to increase tensions between the other races). I'd imagine that you could end up with every single researched tech, not to mention a good deal of cash. You could also just give some of the planets away to make them like yo
