Show me any piece of software (especially game software) that is more polished than GC2 at the same price point at 1.0 release date. The vast majority of software is riddled with bugs, and game software is at a distinct disadvantage because a) it has to run on top of DirectX *and* Windows, both of which have their own problems; b) it has to deal with diverse hardware problems in the areas of video and audio that the vast majority of other software does not; c) it does all of this at a

It seems strange that the application of textures should be at all affected by localization of a computer, since it only affects display formats. The numbers are stored in memory the same way, in binary.

I recommend never using any game's autosave feature. They usually cause problems, and I have found it works much better to take direct control of when your game is saved. On the other hand, you probably don't want to do what I do and save before each and every click of the Next Turn button (well, not every single one), as well as setting a new filename every 5-30 turns depending on how much has happened and whether a critical decision has been made.<br

SDC doesn't get along very well with security programs. This includes firewalls, antivirus programs, antispyware programs and so on. Fortunately I know enough about security software to make the adjustments to them that were needed, but this is a nit I have to pick with pretty much every game company in the industry.

I ahve built so many different combinations they are hard to count, but generally I put more offense than defense, in fact many of my early-game designs have no defense at all, and rely on fleets of small, hard-hitting ships taking out opponents quickly. Losses of individual ships now and again are offset by mass production. I would prefer a system in which each weapon type is individually counted first against its appropriate defense, then

The mini map won’t show the influence at times. Just use the zoom function for the mini map and it occurs. I don't seem to be getting that, but I do get the strange curve at the top of the minimap that is shaded in grey and distorts the minimap colouration and display, It appears to be some kind of drawing area in the graphics primitives.

or you could add some speed to your fighters and you would be able to catch the AI constructors. Exactly. It's not as if you need a fighter to have more than 1 beam weapon to kill a freighter, unless it's late in the game and your enemies are adding defenses (and weapons) to their freighters. (Do they

Also, any time you update a driver (or multiple drivers), reinstall the latest DirectX (Feb 2006) before you run anything that uses DirectX. If you get a strange flickering and an audio stuttering while installing DirectX, wait it out, it's a bug introduced in Microsoft's latest installer but completely harmless. You are also pushing the limits of the game, a few things you could try are: * double your RAM * make a 5GB partit

I don't touch Omega drivers with a 10 foot pole, since they messed my system up completely. I have a pretty generic Sapphire card, you can't get closer to reference than that, since Sapphire makes all of ATI's own "branded" cards. You can download either the ATI generic drivers from the ATI website, regardless of the board manufacturer, or the SoftMod drivers from the TechPowerUp website. I have never had problems with aSoftMod driver, and t

Cloaking should only be an option if in the game at all. Stealth, on the other hand, and the use of a "signature" system, would be a much better choice. For instance, a certain level of stealth technology would make a ship invisible on the minimap and harder to detect on the main map (have to be within a certain range, possibly half the normal sensor range), unless the other civ had already researched the same stealth level, or a sensor level 2 or 3 hi

That's the problem, however. He isn't weak, if he can field an armada sufficient to block any attack on short notice. The AI should understand this, and be wary of such an awesome production potential.

I tend to leave defenses to lag behind a bit, though not too far. Later in the game you can beef up defenses, but in the early stages having a good, hard punch with a decent backup weapon (for when your enemies develop defenses to counter your primary) is surprisingly effective.

I would like to be able to install two instances so I can decide whether to use the "release" software or the "beta" software for a particular game, depending on whether I want to be testing the game or just enjoying playing a game without the problems associated with a beta build. Can I manage two installs like that from Stardock Central? Can I manually do this without messing up my serial number? While I'm asking, can
