Aside from trying to run it on a very underpowered computer, you are using the demo version. The latest release version is a lot less crash-prone, but I would recommend you do some major upgrading of your computer, or even go for a replacement. Seriously. I have an old laptop from 3 or 4 years ago that is more powerful. I love these 2 lines in your debug.err, have to get some of those for my ships: *DEBUG ERROR: ***Unable to find required tech ImpossibleTech for PirateShip. ***<b

None of this accounts for the problem with the Yor, they literally forgot that they were the ones who declared war and the only ones to commit any aggression, which is my main point here. It doesn't take a lot of memory or code for an AI to remember whether it was the one to declare war, or attack, or that I never did anything to them. Skyjack > I don't see your difficulty level showing on your forum posts, too embarassed to post yur games to the metaverse? As a matter of fact, the ga

Engines being larger I can see, because they have to generate more thrust/warp field/whatever to affect a larger mass, but weapons don't affect the ship they are placed on, they affect that ship's target.

OK Yor makes war with me, blows up my one influence starbase that was not even affecting them, never comes over and attacks me at all. I never attack them, and yet all of a sudden I am given a message to the effect that they will get the last laugh over me by surrendering to someone else (the Thalians I think, who were kicking their butts). Arceans repeatedly threaten me for my "military buildup", even though my entire military consists of one warship protecting each of my

Max? There is no max in DirectX or GalCiv2 as far as I know, or if it is it's something huge like 4096x4096 or larger. I have played at 2048x1536, the most my monitor will do. It's not nice at that res on a 19" monitor, however, I prefer 1360x1024. Wish I still had my 21".

No multiplayer. Wormhole technology sub-tree that branches off the mid to high end research, allowing you to build "wormhole stations" that create a permanent wormhole between 2 stations, plus a route-finder that understands and can take advantage of them. Better route-finder. No multiplayer. Better AI. The ability to hide functional components inside a hull, so as to not disturb the aesthetics of custom hull designs, i.e. Battlestar Galacti

It's all about having a naming system. I use a descriptive naming system, sicne I can't be bothered to make up fancy names anymore ("ESF Belligerent Mk. MCMLXXIV"), for example: Trader 11pc XR is a trade ship with a base move of 11 parsecs that has two life support modules (LR = Long Range, XR = eXtended Range, XLR = eXtreme Long Range) Invader 14pc 1k5 is transport with 14 parsec base move and 3 standard troop modules (1k5 meaning 1.5k, using the k in place of t

Unfortunatelly that's dead project, for 3+ years already. The game got only to early beta stage, but got cut because of lack of funding. Pitty, it was really promising It would be nice if the company would release the source code the way Activision did with Call To Power II, so the community could continue improving the game. Unfortunately, few

You can get the collectors edition easily for $29US if you get lucky, I just consider the extra 15 bucks an "effort tariff" - that 15 bucks is worth not having to get off my butt and drive for 45 minutes each way, go into the store, buy the boxed game, take it home, open everything up, etc. etc.

There is no provision for using a television as a monitor in GC2, as in most games. It's a big oversight that a lot of developers make, often intentionally because the market segment it represents is infinitessimally tiny compared to normal gaming computers.

The one thing I hate about PNG, no animated graphic files, otherwise it is a far superior format. There are the MNG and APNG formats, but then you need to code an application that recognizes them, otherwise you get an error in the case of MNG and just the first frame in the case of APNG.

RAM is the biggest chokepoint in a computer these days, and the cheapest to upgrade, however from the sound of it you need to sacrifice some prettiness for functionality. Jewellery on ships makes the game run slower, lots of jewellery = lots of slowdown. Zooming out to "icon view" on the main map will speed things up significantly. Also be happy that your turns are only 30 seconds long, in my current A:CTP2 game the average turn takes 5 minutes or longer for the

Island_gurl, your home PC may not have the same quality of video output as your office PC, office computers are generally newer and chosen with productivity (and having to stare at the screen for 8 hours a day) in mind. If your home PC's monitor is not very recent, and not running at least at 75Hz (painting the entire scren 75 times per second), you could be suffering from eyestrain. Note: fps (frames per second) and refresh rate (Hz) are not the same thing. Other things to

Physical Memory: 446MB RAM Page File: 247MB used, 810MB available See if you get get up to at least 512MB of system RAM and make your swap/page file at least 2GB if not more. Turn down any and all fancy graphics stuff like stars and nebulae in background, etc.

There was a story somewhere about an "invisibility device" a few years back, but it was actually a video camera + projector, projecting an image of what was behind a guy in an all-white bodysuit (including cowl and mask) onto him, so from just one angle he seemed to vanish. It was so ridiculous I just had to laugh, imagining some guy walking around with a ring of cameras and projectors around him..suree, he might not be visible, but who could miss the apparatus moving around seemingly on its own

I would like to be able to do simple things like lasso an area of the map and then tell the game to "upgrade half of all ships in each selected fleet of this type, then when they are done upgrade the other half."

Not everyone. I like trade for the diplomatic effect, and the small income supplement at the beginning when I need it, but I always turn off all alternate victories. I am a Galactic Emperor, after all, and diplomacy is a great tool for manipulating and dominating the insignificant minor races (Torian, Drengin, Yor, Altarian, Arcean, etc.) in their petty wars and other dealings while I roll over them one by one. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Coo

Turn off background stars and nebulae. Set your tactical zoom level so that it turns to icons sooner. Make sure you are zoomed out to icons before you hit TURN, then you can zoom back in if you want to afterwards. Turn off pretty stuff like antialiasing. I would also recommend getting a new computer, but I recognize that it's not always an option for everyone. Upgrading your existing one to 1GB and/or setting a much larger swap file (virtual memory) ma
