It's when you get those 30bil+ pop planets that it starts to get difficult to manage, I prefer to just never let that happen. I also prefer to keep approval as high as possible, to get the most out of every citizen, factory, or other asset except in the very beginning, when I am riding the razor's edge of revolt to get as many planets as I possibly can as quickly as possible.

Wrong. Hitler was never really religious, just claimed to be to win popularity (which he really didn't need in the end: he was loved, and killed people who didn't love him) Bush actually claims to be sent by God. I'll admit to not be an American, and not know the laws. But I SWEAR that there was a seperation of church and state in there somewhere. Having a, sorr

Evil races are too evil to cooperate properly. As they say, there is no honur among thieves. Unfortunately, for some reason, Altarians are classified as a "good" race, despite the fact that their behaviour is closer to "Chaotic Evil".

CachemanXP is a memory management utility that allows you to configure when memory (physical and virtual) optimization is done, rather than leaving it up to Windows to do it based on Microsoft's (very dismal) default settings. It also uses algorithms to make it the least intrusive memory manager available. It is not necessary, but definitely useful if you have problems and don't know how to handle them yourself, or have to deal with programs that have memory leaks (like GC2

McAfee is garbage. Change your shortcut for GC2 to point to GalCiv2.exe instead of GC2Launch.exe (or GCLaunch.exe, whatever it was).

Too much of this guide is opinion. For example, I personally advise people NOT to use autosave, on GC2 or any game. Saving yourself gives you the advantage of deciding when the game is saved, and under what filename, and it is done when nothing else is happening so there is less chance of crashing, and we all know by now that there is a bug that involves crashing during an autosave. I can point out another flaw based on opinion and preference at least once in every section

Mathematics is a universal language, because 2+2 = 4 whether you say it in English, Italian, Romanian or Yorian (in fact, mathematics is probably the native tongue of the Yor). It is also perfectly reasonable the the first exploration ship of a race would be a specialty "one off" ship that uses hulls and other technologies that are diffferent from the ones that would be used in a mass-produced, standardised scenario. Think of Henry Ford, automobiles were all hand-built one at a time b

If the AIs were doing any "thinking" while the player was taking a break, you would see continuous processor usage to a high degree. The AIs only do their thinking in response to player actions. One question I would ask the developers is, "How many threads of execution are permitted when the AI is 'thinking' about its moves?" If too many threads are allowed, this may be a part of the reason for the memory leak, especially if the code is not written with the latest deconstruction methods, to make

Seriously, do I am the only one not to like Civilization 4 ? Not by a long shot. It is badly programmed, made GC2's release bugs look like minor blemishes, looks like it was designed by Fisher Price (a children's toy company, for those who don't know of this company), has the most annoying tutorial mode ever created, and badly tarnishes the Civ

This is the Alpha and Omega BWAHAHA! A bit full of yourself aren't you? As for crashing, I guess you never played Civ4 until the numerous patches had already come out to fix the crippling problems that made the game literally unplayable for the majority of users with ATI graphics cards, and was not particularly nice to nVidia owners either.<br/

I am having no trouble with my current game, and I haveen't got a single one of the resources in my galaxy. I do, however, have the largest bar in the galactic power graph, having taken out the Iconians completely so far.

It is likely your audio driver. Creative Labs just plain sucks at updating drivers for older audio cards (read: anything they aren't currently selling). I had to go as far as removing my SB Audigy X-Gamer due to problems between the terrible drivers and the (crappy) Miles Sound System (which is plagued by problems of its own, even with non-Creative Labs audio cards) which GC2 uses.

I've never understood the difficulty people have with always being at war, unless of course they spend all of their time attacking other races. I am rarely at war, and my wars are usually short, even now that I am playing at higher difficulty levels. I do this by making sure that as soon as I am finished with the initial expansion phase, if not sooner, I am setting up as many trade routes with as many races as possible. The AI seems to not like the loss of income that comes from going to war wit

You can buy a used copy of MoM on ebay for under $20, and it also qualifies as abandonware, so acquiring a less-than-completely-legit copy is technically not illegal, and besides noone exists who would bother to prosecute if it were.

It would be interesting if being in someone else's "space" would case you a penalty of some sort - unless you had a counter tech. It does, but only if the UP resolution regarding colonies in someone else's territory passes. <TD class="mb-Bo

That's a very ignorant remark, JM. There were many compatability issues with the original .NET runtime package and a lot of computers, and I would be very surprised if there were none with the latest version. I also find your prejudice against non-Windows users highly offensive and immature.

Also working with the ship building screen more last night, the little rotate buttons ABSOLUTELY SUCK! Here I am trying to look at a spot and I cannot get the rotate to stop where I want. I think the best solution is to press "Alt" (or Ctrl) and left click mouse and move mouse around to rotate the ship. This will give the best control and viewing while constructing a new s

It's a race, so unless you want to constantly be at war, or surround the planets with ships to block other races (ineffective, since you can probably build a colony ship quicker than 8 other ships), you have to treat it like one. I advise a few things: 1) Never use the core ships, except the starting one you are stuck with. You should be able to build one that can travel 3 parsecs and have extended range (using 2 basic life support) right from turn 1. Constantly upgrade you
