Worrying about what is happening with the grunts on the ground is not the business of a "supreme overlord of the galaxy", as long as his grunts beat the enemy's grunts.

Wheeloffire : Grow up, not every country in the world uses the same slang as yours. Hell, not even every state in the US uses the term "slow down", quite a few commonly use "slow up" instead. So get a life, and realise that the galaxy does not revolve around you, contrary to what your mommy and daddy taught you, little boy.

The wonder that makes all ships capable of surveying doesn't automatically add the survey module to every ship, it just makes the survey module "free" on any new ships you design, you have to actually design the new ships with the survey module included in them. DOH!

If you are crashing so hard that you have to restart Windows, then you have a serious problem with your machine. This is the first and only thread I have ever seen about GC2 crashing this badly. Perhaps you need a professional to give your system a serious overhaul. I know this guy at my college who has so much crap on his computer, nobody can make heads or tails of any problem he has because there is so much conflicting garbage on his system. Maybe you need a good registry cleanup and defrag, o

Look at the nose, dude, it's obvious they speak some form of "snort" or "snot" language. Would you feel like being "good" if every time you said hello, every other race wiped your greeting off their face and shot at you?

Sorry to bust your bubble, but it isn't there. It isn't anywhere. First I looked where it was supposed to be, then I looked a few other possible places, then I did a complete system search, every file, every drive. And, it just happened again, crashed when I tried to return to the game after alt-tabbing out to save a screen shot, no debug.err file anywhere on my system, confirmed by 2 different search utilities.

In my first game of the 1.1 release version (027), crashed to desktop, no debug.err anywhere on my system. 2/3 of large map conquered, tried to attack Korx flagship with a fleet of 5 medium ships. Crash was either during the calculation to get the fleet to the flagship, or the actual start of movement.

Best: Whatever research building I can currently build. Worst: Anything to do with defense. Of course, you absolutely cannot do without factories, so they are more important than research buildings when you first colonise a planet, but in my games are eventually replaced by research buildings when I run out of space.

Never had a problem with memory. 1GB RAM, 4096~4096MB virtual (fixed size to prevent swap file fragmentation). However, my computer spends a lot of time "recovering" when I quit GC2, evidence that a huge portion of the swap file was in use. P.S.: S1Genocide, you are wasting disk space, Windows XP will not use more than a total of 4GB swap file space, regardless of anything you do.

Set up a queue when you colonize a new planet, I often use something like: fact, fact, fact, money, fun, think, farm, friend, think, money, think, think, money, think, think fact = factory type improvements money = improvements that increase your cash fun = entertainment/moreale think = research farm (come on, you don't need this explained do you?) friend = influence generating structures I rarely stick to the plan, but it's a good way to

I am finishing a game on .017 before I update to the final 1.1 release, so this point might be moot, but every colony I capture in this .017 game has a starport on a tile that cannot be built on, even with terraforming. Generally, I prefer not to have loads of starports. I only build them on PQ12 or higher planets, or 10+ if I need more. It is sort-of convenient, however, to have a functioning startport on every planet that does not occupy a tile that could be used by something else,

One possibility would be to make starbases, as being fixed installations that can mount larger everything, from weapons and defenses through to sensors, have a chance based on their sensor modules + starbase defense modules installed to be able to get off the first volley when being attacked. This way, early starbases would not be able to "shoot first", but "fully loaded" starbases in the late game would get the advantage of a "fully armed and operational battle station" ( - Emperor Palpatine, S

1) List of colonies does not sort properly, I frequently sort by military or social production levels to decide what planet(s) to build certain structures or ships on and this is a hassle with the poor sorting. 2) Ability to select multiple planets at a time to assign them to produce the same ship from the colony list. Of course, the "turns to build" and "cost to buy remaining production" would either have to be blanked or summarized/averaged. 3) Ability to assign all colon

It sems that in recent patches, the size and armament overall, rather than *just* the number of ships, plays a factor in how the AI judges your military strength. Used to be, I could have 60 small ships with 0 defense, 0 attack and even 0 engines and the game would leave me alone for a good long while, that doesn't happen anymore. My strategy for a while has been to build loads of small ships with nothing but engines and gather them in one or more places while I updated my

Windows has a maximum virtual memory size of 4GB, which is exactly what I use, a 4GB min/4GB max swap file on a separate drive in a 5GB partition (to avoid Windows' constant, stupid "out of space" messages). Some recommendations: defrag a lot, turn off autosave, use a fixed-size swap file, don't leave a bunch of crap running (especially IM clients).

Examine your opponent's ships. If they have 7 points of Beam attack and 3 points of missile defense, do not attack them with ships which have 5 points of missile attack and no shields (beam defense), instead give your ships shields (beam defense) and either beam or projectile (mass driver) attack. Group your ships into efficient fleets, for example if you have 12 medium ships and 17 logistics, put them into 3 fleets of 4 ships (16 logistics points per fleet iirc). Speed cou

For the people attempting to make old games work on new systems, I have gotten MoO2 and Master of Magic working fine under XP Pro, although MoM does not have sound. You can even get the audio to work, but you have to get full machine-emulation working which means it runs as if you are playing on an old 8086-based IBM PC. If you need any help with either program, email me at [email protected]
