I think that would be a lot to manage, even for the obsessive-compulsive megalomaniacal micromanagers out there. I get a little bored playing CTP2 with 200+ cities (tweaked Apolyton release, of course). Can you imagine playing a galaxy like that in pen-and-paper tabletop format?

Here's a thought on something in the op: The game's 3D engine has no polygon count, no texture limit. Why not make them, but as parameters in the .ini file? They could be set to 0 by default, which would set "no limit", but if a user wanted to change them (on the advice of a devor for some
GC2 and CivIV are the first games that have ever forced me to upgrade my video driver, but there have been a few that required me to go back to an older version. The way things are going these days, you almost need a massive hard drive with multiple installations of Windows so you can have the "right" drivers to be able to play a game. Unfortunately, you have to fiddle with multiple installs on a single partition to have more than a few diff
It looks like you are getting an invalid mode switch call, try manually editing your .ini file and setting your video to 1024x768, fullscreen on.

damn I wish I'd known the combat system was so stupid from the start. Who the heck rolls a d100? There is a reason most tabletop games use multiple dice, it's called "using the bell curve" to eliminate this sort of silliness.
1) you can be so far ahead overall that there is nothing tos teal 2) you can have an opponent who is extremely loyal as a race 3) you can have an opponent who also has a lot of money in spying As for how a human could pass for a Meklar, or a Torian, or whatever, I am sure some combination of stealth, holographic and/or other technologies would allow for the possibility of a spy to get into a research or industrial facil

Yes, let's all turn GC2 into a bizarre hybrid of MoO2 and MoO3, with some stuff from other games thrown in! While we're at it, let's throw in some RTS, FPS, fleet/ship level user-controllable tactics, multiplayer, BFG4000, minigames to solve to get bonuses, and magic. Seriously, there are some decent ideas in this thread, but there are others which would completely change the game, and not into something good or unique, but into a bizarre genetic hybrid of a bunch of other
There is a Galactopedia you can download which, iirc, shows all of this info. Galactopedia This is not produced or supported by Stardock, but it is handy. I recommend turning off fullscreen mode when you want to refer to it while you are playing.
PC Zone/CVG have a predictable habit of dissing anything that isn't the latest flashy FPS while attempting to portray themselves as experienced, multi-genre gamers. It comes off as overbearingly lame except to their target market of...drumroll please...people just like themselves.
1.1 is always "coming next week" Anyone noticing any glaring problems with the .017 release yet? I'm not DLing it until I finish my current game.
Set a balanced disbursement up with 33% military, 33% social, 34% research and no focus. Set your overall spending percentage (the one just below taxes but above the three sliders mentioned in step 1) at about 20-30% Set your taxes as high as they can go while not having any of you colonies' morale percentage in red. This will get you through until your population gets high enough to support everything, move your taxes
Btw. speaking of tactical combat, I really think Civ IV is also missing it. Imho Civ IV isn't complete without mortal combat style tactical combat between spearmen and tanks (spearmen for teh win!1!11) ) I love a well-done bit of sarcasm The
Just build 'em, it don't matter how they work, they just do Seriously, I have these suckers all over the place, and the competition just falls planet by planet, sometimes several planets in one turn.
Diskeeper does an amazing job, and it can run in the background, but it's expensive.
Or a Dxdiag report.
Try removing your Audigy temporarily and using onboard sound if you can. I have had problems with a certain few games, especially EverQuest and now GalCiv2, with this card although I managed to eventually get it to work correctly with EQ. Creative Labs is notoriously lazy with their driver updates and compatability, I don't know why I continually keep buying their products, must be genetic <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc

An outside ship designer would be great, but what about in-game? I play a custom race almost every time, and I dislike being restricted to only hulls of a particular race that is not even the one I am playing. Make the ship designer allow you to build anything you like out of any parts you like, with categories that open up like Windows Explorer. Have checkboxes that would turn on/off "tech availability" and "race categories", so
Originally I heard of GC/GC2 from recommendations on the MoO3 forums, for anyone who hates that piece of rubbish that should have never borne the name MoO.
It reduces quality to the base, before you colonised it and any race/technology bonuses were applied. On really large maps I sometimes abandon very small colonies (3, maybe 4) so that I enver have to deal with them.
To me this is the single most annoying thing aside from not being able to post finished games to the metaverse at this point. It completely messes up an operation in progress if I get a ship going off in the wrong direction or a turn processed before I am finished moving due to the positioning of those two buttons. Please shrink them just a bit so there is a small buffer of 5-10 pixels between these buttons (or at least their "hot
I played one or two games with stock races, then as I do with any game that allows custom races, I have tried numerous variants. I don't "play my strengths" (or style), as I don't have particular one(s), I jsut experiment with the various possibilities. They are there, after all, for just that prupose.
My last few games have been metaverse, and had varying levels of every sort of random, so I don't think that has anything to do with it. I wish some of them had gotten posted, but I've been having problems with posting games to the emtaverse.
